As far as I know:

  • Wasn’t remotely a problem in PvE.
  • Wasn’t used in sPvP.
  • Used in WvW. But it wasn’t a serious issue (eles were very vulnerable while in nado form) .. and there was no outcry for a nerf.

So why nerf it?

I’m an ele. I use MS + Tornado in WvW, but I accept that it’ll be nerfed because the stat boost from tornado wasn’t really intended to be used to produce super-powered meteor showers. It’s just a quirk that was noticed and taken advantage of but one that I acknowledge isn’t intended.

You are looking for a rational reason where, I am guessing, none exists. It appears to me, sometimes, that Anet devs just pull random bits of paper with ideas for changes written on them out of a bowl and apply them without much thought. It would certainly explain getting globs of goop as major event rewards, and the new Trait system.

Sounds to me like it simply wasn’t a behavior they ever intended to happen. Overpowered or not, they just don’t want it to work like that and so they’re altering it.

They could cast Meteor Shower from behind the zerg (1200 range) and then go into Tornado form for a huge damage boost. With 25 might, fury, banner of discipline/strength, arcane lightning, spotter, empowered allies and blasting staff, you’re looking at casting a Meteor Shower at around 5400 power at 245% crit damage with 100% crit chance. I know this example has ‘all the planets alligned’, but I think you get the picture. 24 AoE Meteors, under these conditions, are gonna wreck a zerg. Even without all the buffs from other professions, it’s a lot of damage.

Yeah, it’s obvious it wasn’t intended. So, they’re fixing it. Don’t get what the problem is or where the confusion lies personally. As said in the OP, it isn’t overpowered so it’s not the end of the world if they remove it too.

Unintended doesn’t necessarily mean bad.
Intended also doesn’t necessarily mean good.

Meteornado is the only reason why tornado is even worth unlocking, let alone slotting to your elite slot.

Every ele is going to be keeping Conjure Fiery Greatsword on their slot now (except for a few roamers or PvErs that have the golem glyph). So much for build diversity.

Well at least now I can not bother to even unlock the skill. Saves me a bunch of SP’s.

You’re deluded if you think they’re even gonna consider changing it this close to the patch date.

Where are you getting these stats from? Can I have a screenshot please?
Despite the meteor-nado nerf its clear from the balance thread that ele is getting the nerf hammer AGAIN (we all remember the RTL/MF and heal nerf) and not getting a significant buff in any way.
