I’ve had more than a few discussions about this event and the way Arena Net has handled it lately, and heard all the comebacks and accusations of whining and being “butt hurt” imaginable already. However I feel the most kitten point has yet to be said out loud, or typed with clarity as the case may be. I’m not going to type an essay or rehash all the arguments to this point, instead I am going to jump to my final thought on the matter, my ultimate thesis on the Lost Shores event, what was wrong with it, and the problem with the inevitable similar events coming. All made with the most direct example I can.

TL;DR
This is about Arena Net continuing to make Guild Wars 2 an increasingly un-enjoyable experience by shackling narrative essential content to unreasonable time constraints and buggy, largely unplayable events. To use something from recent memory to as an example; this is like the Prothean DLC from Mass Effect 3 if it was also only accessible one time for a single three hour time frame, on a single –inconvenient- day, and released with so many bugs and such poor coding that a large percentage of players who did want to participate were unable to do so.

THIS CRAP SHOULD NOT FLY.

If we were talking about BioWare or Electronic Arts the boycotts and hate mail would have already begun, and there would be a “Take back Guild Wars” page on Facebook.

What would I like to see happen now?
Well for one I’d love to see Arena Net confirm a real fix for the lag issues, or at the very least respond to all the cries for selectable server districts in the overflows. Further if they refuse to outright abolish the unfair practice of one-time-event then they need to promise that these events will only grant cosmetic rewards as opposed to give greater wealth, and there by power, to attending players while ignoring those with conflicting schedules or who suffer from Arena Net’s own poor handling of these events and can’t participate even if they do make the attempt.

I think honestly, the in-game protests, hate mail and boycotts will start appearing soon.

So far, anet has made some very questionable design decisions without taking the time to think carefully what would happen. The amount of bad judgement since the game opened has been dreadful really.

protest this travesty of a patch -
Get it taken down -
Do whatever it takes if you care about this game -

There was only one big mistake with LS event that caused all the drama, hate, envy and divided community…. precursor weapons in that chest. What amplifies that downright insane decision is the fact it was done during free trial period. It turned an event that was supposed to be unique, fun and relaxing with people cooperating into typical lootgrab nightmare. Item of such value was not supposed to be there, especially not during free trial event.

Sure there were technical and other difficulties, but it would’ve been fine. most would just have a good laugh about it all after a day or two, but not now. Now, players are divided.

I doubt this will happen again, but that is probably going to make things even worse since it will always be just another reminder for some how they were not given the same opportunity as others.
