As a beta player, I have to question the validity of magic find. My MF keeps going up but the drops remain the same. In 3 years, I have received 1 legendary pre and nothing else of note. Whats the point?

What’s the point of Magic Find? It’s an artifact of the old mechanics that Anet would gladly retire (and which they are trying to marginalize by pushing more and more drops to containers, which are not affected by it).

I have been finding more rares randomly off mob drops ever since my MF went up. That’s pretty much all it does.

When I boost my MF with consumables I find I usually get more Lodestone drops off of dust mite farms in Dry Top.

That’s significantly more precursors than most people will ever see over three years. Count yourself lucky.

In all seriousness though, the way it works is that it boosts the item’s assigned drop chance.

If an item has a 0.1% drop chance and you have 800% MF, that’s still only a 0.8% drop chance for that item. If you’re unlucky, you’ll never be in that chance.

It was implemented since people ran mf gear in dungeons and draged their teams down.

Shame they can’t think of a better use for it, like reducing the chance of being hit by falling rocks etc.

How many pre-cursors are you entitled to by now? Some of us have not had any yet, despite the hours we’ve put in (I have a lot!).

MF is mostly for Exotic & Rares. Perhaps you’re not spending enough time killing mobs to notice a change, but since the account bound change came into place, my exotic and rare items drop rate have increased tremendously, and I’m only at 175% Magic Find.

Magic Find doesn’t change what you get from a World Boss. It only affects drops from mobs, plus PvP Reward Chests.
