Whats your deaths per hour?
Elementalist – .72 dph
I died a lot when I was learning how to play, now not so much.
I’ll only post the three chars I play most on I gues…
Level 80’s:
Mesmer 138 deaths, 251 hours played. 0,55 dph
Thief 130 deaths, 198 hours played. 0,66 dph
Level 33 atm:
Guardian 34 deaths, 54 hours played. 0,62 dph
The mysteries dissapear and life stands explained.”
80 Warrior: 2.71
Devonas Rest 4 lyfe
Apparently I die almost 3 times an hour. Huh.
Don’t base anything off this though, some classes are harder than others to master depending on multiple factors and the more skilled you get the less you die.
(edited by Oxstar.7643)
Don’t worry about how much you die individually, it does not really matter…so long as your having fun.
I am interested in seeing how the 8 different classes fare vs each other. A survivor table. In order to take out individual skill, doing different parts of the game WvW, PvP, dungeons, fractuals and PvE, I will need lots and lots of data.
So post your deaths per hour here.
To work out type /deaths and /age in chat. Then divide deaths by age, vola…deaths per hour (dph).
The problem with that study is that people that run dungeons will have deaths that aren’t based on character class, but overall party success. I know for fact that running my warrior in Orr or whatnot by herself she doesn’t die at all. However, running dungeons sometimes she doesn’t die; sometimes she’ll die a dozen times.
My ranger runs a lot of WvW. Same thing happens there but for different reasons. I tend to run in the small packs raiding supply camps and killing dolyaks. Sometimes this goes well; sometimes you run into the enemy zerg and get steamrolled.
Young toons die more than level 80’s. Young toons just don’t have as many survival tricks available to them, and unfortunately, there is a lot of content that is completely out of whack difficulty wise. Add those two up and young toons will have higher deaths/hour than established ones that again has nothing to do with class or even player skill in many cases.
I can go through the situations for all 10 of my toons, and invariably, it’s things other than class that lead to death. Now, I know from experience that my thief is much more likely to die if I make even small mistakes compared to my guardian who doesn’t die at all unless she’s stuck with a bad party. My necro is almost as hard to kill as my guardian, but if I respec’d her, I could make her far more deadly with the caveat she’d be a whole lot easier to kill.
The only exception to that last bit is engineer. There’s not much you can do to make them as tough as a guardian or necro, nor is there anything you can do to make them as high damage as thief or ranger. They’re just pretty meh all around.
But here’s my body – So rez me maybe?
If you PvP then that also messes this sort of study up.
Personally I don’t really die at all in PvE. However WvW gives more than enough deaths. And the amount of deaths in WvW tells you nothing of the circumstances of those deaths, someone with a low death rate in WvW might just be playing half asleep in the middle of a big zerg… or perhaps they flee ever time they don’t outnumber an enemy 5 to 1. Someone who dies a lot in WvW might be taking greater risks for greater payoffs, perhaps they died fighting 10 to 1 odds, but were able to delay a cap on a tower until the cavalry arrived… or perhaps this person with the deaths is the one that lead a suicide charge on an enemy siege line (suicide charge because all the people without deaths were too busy whining about how hopeless the siege is while hiding in the tower under siege true story).
Having a single number like the amount of deaths doesn’t really tell you anything. You need a whole lot more variables to make this anything more than troll science.
Warrior 1 death per hour for dungeons, farming 0
for my guardian 1, more if i do something stupid.
Around 1, but that’s not taking into account that probably at least half of my hours are from being AFK.
Are “downings” counted among the death count or is it pure wipe-out of the character?
Just do this:-
Post your deaths per hour here.
To work out type /deaths and /age in chat. Then divide deaths by age, vola…deaths per hour (dph).
I want a number to 2 decimal places please. ‘Around about’ and ‘in dungeons’ ‘WvW’ etc doesn’t cut it…
Trust me…with a big enough sample size afk and anything else a character can do will even out on all classes.
80 Ranger
109 deaths, 513 hours = .212 deaths/hour
Elementalist
The Dragonfly Effect [Phi]
Lets see….carry the one….divide by 5…..divide by zer……………….
Deaths perhour = every time my GF wants some thing she doesnt quite get the idea of “there is no pause button”
Times im actually concentrating im a guardian like kittenroaches we dont die cant kill any thing either but we dont die
80 Ranger (has been 80 a good while), 448 hours played, 153 deaths = 0.3415 deaths per hour. No WvW on this toon.
Elementalist (fresh to 80 yesterday), 114 hours played, 47 deaths = 0.4122 deaths per hour. Some WvW on this toon at lower levels would have easily accounted for 50% of the deaths listed.
(edited by Midnight.9205)
Warrior, 1.56 deaths per hour (372 deaths in 239h 11m)
80 ranger: 0.503 deaths per hour
35 guardian: 0.301 deaths per hour
Most of my ranger’s deaths come from me attempting to reach places the game doesn’t want me reaching….like the bottom of Rata Sum.

To the person who says deaths dont matter as long as you are having fun hmmm. You must have a unlimited coin bank to fix that armor.. So much for saving for the nice armor eh. The other game I played you lose all your Items on death. Death rarely happened.
I wonder if they made it harder in some areas I used to never get Koed due to massive amounts of npc’s now I occasionally die. I have my suspicions why but I am like all the other players at the mercy of the developers. Maybe its due t these Xmas events the server is a tad slow..
80 ranger depends on where I am at is how much I die. Anymore than 5 times a hour is to much with armor repairs on exotics.
41 engineer Dont play it much its not worth the time to raise it to 80
31 Elemental Disgusted with it to many deaths with little rewards.
(edited by jdkentucky.2871)
That’s shocking to me the number of deaths you don’t have on your engineer considering the problems we have and the horrible downed state abilities we possess.
Are you a tanky bunker build or support or something on your engi OP?
352/127 = 2.77 dph

Main Lvl 80 Ranger: 64 deaths divided by 269 hours = 0.237
Lvl 50 Guardian: 39 deaths, 86 Hours = 0.453 dph
Lvl 50 Necromancer: 34 Deaths, 90 Hours = 0.377
Lvl 50 Warrior: 49 Deaths, 99 Hours= 0.494
Lvl 48 Thief: 39 Deaths, 74 Hours= 0.527
I’m an alt-aholic, my 3 highest level characters are:

Engineer: 39 in 72 = 0.54
Necromancer: 24 in 57 = 0.42
80 Thief: 472 hours played, 527 deaths = 1.11
about 2.1 for my characters.
warrior and ele 80s
lv80 Necromancer, all professional skills unlocked, working on the final norn elite skills.
Hi guys, thanks for the posts everyone but some of you are not including your character class. It can only be included if you give deaths per hour for each of your individual character classes, thanks.
Just wondered the length and breadth of Tyria asking people for the deaths per hour…lol. Got some strange looks…some serious paronia…some wierd conversations…and a lot of helpful people…lol Was good fun, just walking the world talking to other players…
Anyway collected some more player data:-
Necros
Epsilon Aurigae 480d 225h 2.13

Warrior
Deaths 1080 Age 487.0 DPH 2.21
Ranger
Deaths 992 Age 370.75 DPH 2.49
Surprising, my first character has a lower DPH, must be because my ranger plays more WvW. I figured my ranger would be lower since I had more actual experience playing before I started using her.
Mesmer
Deaths 956/ Age 965(weird as kitten i know) DPH .99
80 Warrior: 344 hours; 274 deaths; .797/hour
80 Necromancer: 212 hours; 105 deaths; .495/hour
80 Elementalist: 126 hours; 53 deaths; .42/hour
80 Mesmer: 108 hours; 26 deaths; .24/hour
(edited by IndigoSundown.5419)
Just wanna compare how often the different character classes die and if I am exceptionally rubbish at GW2…lol
Well it all depends on what you are doing with your characters. Someone that is just farming events/ori all day for 500 hours shouldn’t have any deaths. Someone who is running easy paths of easy dungeons (CoF P1) all day shouldn’t have any deaths.
On the other hand, someone that does the hard dungeons, reached high fractals level or does any form of PVP (WvW or sPVP) will certainly have a LOT more deaths. Especially in sPVP people die a LOT so there is no comparisson.
First and main
Elementalist
428 deaths – 388 hours
1.1 DpH
0! I dont get any open world loot or drops even when changing zones ect so now all I do is log in make my trades on the TP and log off. I dont play the game anymore. It is unfortunate that I cant make enough to cover waypointing let a lone making a surplus gold to buy/upgrade stuff.
Across all character 1272 hours played!
257 deaths on 3 characters.
80 Mesmer 700 hours, 137 deaths. .19
80 Warrior 295 hours, 120 deaths. .4
76 Guardian 106 hours, 7 deaths. .06
0.2 across all characters!
Need more engineers to post there stats!
Tyria seems to have a engineer shortage!
Survivor or Squishy Table
N ADPH L H
Guardian 9 0.92 0.3 1.77
Mesmer 7 0.94 0.24 2.48
Necro 9 1.01 0.3 2.14
Ranger 11 1.1 0.21 2.49
Warrior 9 1.39 0.49 2.71
Ele 9 1.45 0.42 2.63
Thief 10 1.5 0.53 2.98
Engineer 6 1.57 0.54 3.72
Sorry it isn’t aligned in rows!
N = Number of that class…ie 9 guardians
ADPH = Average Deaths Per Hour (lower means dies less often, 0.5 = die once every 2 gameplay hours)
L = Lowest DPH out of those submitted
H = Highest DPH out of those submitted
Final Note, the low numbers of each class do make this table fairly meaningless in reality. You would need at least a 1,000 enteries per class ie…8,000+ to make it a accurate and good guide to within 2-3% and no I am not going to do that!
Points of Interest
1. I collected data from 2 forums and by asking in game. The official forum post responses were noticeably lower then ingame responses. Often people actually playing the game had a DPH of above 1 to mid/high 2’s, well those hanging around the forums had 0.5 and lower usually. Make of that what you will!
2. Not very many of the Engineer class wondering around Tyria. Only class I shouted out for in ingame chat specifically and only got 6 responses.
(80) Ranger: 392 hours, 653 deaths, 1.67 dph
(54) Elementalist: 97 hours, 98 deaths, 1.01 dph
(38) Warrior: 67 hours, 61 deaths, 0.91 dph
(34) Thief: 53 hours, 61 deaths, 1.15 dph
(32) Necromancer: 48 hours, 32 deaths, 0.67 dph
(20) Mesmer: 23 hours, 26 deaths, 1.13 dph
None of them are as bad as I expected, actually.
How’d that work out for us so far?
Now let’s try some ideas that will really work.
L80 Engineer – 124 Deaths, 211.5 hrs. DpH 0.586
L53 Guardian – 38 Deaths, 65.5 hrs. DpH 0.580
The Engineer I use in WvW and the various PvP maps, which will skew results a bit (and will continue to over more time). My K/D ratio in WvW is surprisingly high though, even though I’ve used subpar (PvE) builds on the maps.
Guardian would probably be lower if I didn’t charge head first into certain situations so much at first. Very fun though.
I come here from Eve Online, where you actually lose everything on you at death (regardless of cost). So I’m surprised these figures aren’t lower. :-)
I like to view MMOs through the lazy eye of a Systems Admin, and the critical eye of a
Project Manager. You’ve been warned. ;-)
Lvl 80 Necro: 358 hours, 192 deaths, 0.53 dph
Lvl 80 Ranger: 274 hours, 223 deaths, 0.81 dph
Lvl 80 Guardian: 119 hours, 41 deaths, 0.34 dph
Lvl 60 Thief: 62 hours, 14 deaths, 0.22 dph
Lvl 44 Engineer: 62 hours, 20 deaths, 0.32 dph
Lvl 34 Warrior: 39 hours, 9 deaths, 0.23 dph
Lvl 16 Mesmer: 13 hours, 3 deaths, 0.23 dph
The necro and the ranger are the ones doing dungeons and jumping puzzles…
Ranger, some WvW
Level 80 549 hours 367 deaths .66dph
Lv80 Warrior : 731.11 hours, 1277 deaths, = 0,57 dph
Lv55 Guardian : 73.12 hours, 77 deaths = 0,94 dph
Lv11 Engineer : 8.19 hours, 14 deaths = 0,58 dph
Lv17 Ranger : 12.38 hours, 7 deaths = 0,56 dph
Lv7 Elementalist : 4.401 hours, 1 deaths = 0,22dph
Across all characters, I have played for 827 hours 48 minutes over the past 3 month!
Across all characters, 1376 deaths over the past 3 months!
Across all character, 0,60 dph over the past 3 months!

I did round up a decimal point on some because an asura told me to :-P
~Surrender fiend and you will get an easy death
~I could promise you the same…but it would be a lie…
Since the deaths number includes pvp it is sort of pointless if you pvp/wvw.
On my lvl 41 engineer I have apparently 430 deaths, I didn’t bother checking age :P
