I ask because the patch has already added more sources of superspeed, including temporal enchanter from the mesmer traits. But its still capping at +33% instead of +100%.

Is this out of combat?

When I used temporal enchanter in combat, I certainly seemed to go a lot faster than with just swiftness.

I am the gunpowder to my grenades,
Zerker is my body and rampager is my blood.
I have tossed over a thousands grenades,
unknown to Asura, nor known to Charr.
Have withstood pain from creating many bombs,
yet my profession will still be the least played.
So as I trait, unlimited grenade works.

Super Speed is working the way its always worked… its just that most people never understood the movement speed mechanics.

Essentially you have 2 base movement speeds. In combat (210), out of combat (300). Cripple and chill modify this downward. while boons and buffs modify it upwards. Both of these have a max cap of 400 (which is how fast you move with swiftness out of combat).

What Super speed does is allow your in-combat speed to easily reach the Max cap. (210×2=420, which caps it back 400). Try activating Slick Shoe’s tool belt skill while in-combat (while under the effects of swiftness if you feel like it). You will move insanely fast relative to your enemy, whose stuck in combat speed.

So what you’re saying is, swiftness gives +33% speed bonus in combat of 210*1.33 = 279.3, whee super speed will hit it in combat of the max 400?

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but are you sure? The wiki lists it as bugged. And I’d think that super speed should help out of combat as much as in combat. I obviously have no evidence to corroborate it, but it feels like it isn’t functioning as intended, especially if it only gives in-combat bonuses.

It still works out of combat…. the gains simply aren’t as noticeable because you’re still hitting that cap.

Another thing I forgot to mention is that Speed bonuses don’t stack. Its takes the highest single bonus and applies that to your movement rate.

The Max cap exists for 2 reasons….

1. Tracking stability. Most engines lose accuracy when deltas are too high, or the update rates are too low (lag, packet loss, etc). So the cap works to ensure errors are kept to a minimum.

2. Make sure players in PvP and WvW can give chase. The in-combat speed is meant to reduce the scale of movement so melee skills can reliably connect, and reign in kitters (who could control engagements through range alone).

The higher out of combat speed was to allow better travel in open world and WvW, where spawns are far apart. For PvE, they would use patrol density and the in-combat movement rate as a way to prevent you from skipping segments the designers wanted you to fight. This is a big reason Orr, while not particularly difficult to navigate, becomes troublesome to cross, due to constant engagements with undead.

Lol, guardian version would be like

I am the bone of my sword
Stability is my body, and burst is my blood
I have created over a thousand greatswords
Unaware of nerf, nor aware of buff
Withstood pain to create many (ascended) weapons, waiting for an expansion
This was the only path, we’re in a good place
My entire life was Unlimited Burn Works

So let’s see:

Out of combat, speeds should be:

+25%: 375
+33%: 399
+110%: 400 since cap

You notice a definite difference between 25% and 33%, but no real difference between 33% and 100%. Seems wrong, but ok.

In combat:

+25%: 262.5
+33%: 279.3
+100%: 400 because of cap

That is a substantial difference. I’ll try it out in combat vs swiftness so I can see it for myself. I am still unhappy about it though, I’d wanted superspeed to give me some better overland travel as well.

As a side note: How do you know it’s this way? Was there a post or something? I dont need links for verification, just curious.
