I have been noticing that the best I get from exotics is 0 to 3 when it used to be 0 to 5, when and why did this change?

As far as I know, it has always been 0 – 3.

I remember rares were 0 to 3 and exotics was 0 to 5, all I can do is go hmmmm.

Well, not according to the wiki, and I’ve never heard anyone say they got 5, but maybe you were extra lucky! =)

Could be or it was a good dream, oh well.

I also heard that it was 0-5 ecto’s for exotics, though I’ve salvaged quite a few exotics and never have gotten more than 3.

0-5 would be RNG, with 5 as the rarest. I have played from beta, never had a precursor drop, so when did they change the drop rate on precursors? See what RNG means?

I don’t recall reading any patch notes that mentioned the ecto rate from exotic salvages being lowered and I make it a point to read all patch notes, and, I still am remembering that exotic – ecto salvage WAS 0 to 5(another stealth nerf?). This is really starting to bug me.

Pretty sure I got 3 yesterday from a rare. I salvage every rare amour and weapons under 80.

0-5 is a myth. No one has ever posted any evidence that they have gotten 5, ever, since the launch of the game.

I got 3 from a rare a day or two ago, but it is very infrequent.

I got 4 ectos in september the last time and 5 ectos some time in spring the last time.

Thats why i think its not a myth, like mentioned by somebody else, as i wouldnt think that Anet would stealth nerf it and i didnt see any patch notes relating to that as well.

I also dont see a reason for them to stealth nerf it as well. Its extremely rare to get 4 or 5 ectos and in the end, only the average salvage rate matters.

So, 800 salvages and not a single return of 4 or 5 ectos (I looked for it Every. Single. Time.) It would be very rare indeed if it were possible.

The 0 to 5 ecto on exotics was from BEFORE the introduction of Dark Matter and the new items related to Dark Matter.

I wouldn’t trust the wiki to mention it, there have been changes to skills in the past that aren’t mentioned in the official patch notes, and the wiki is updated almost instantly to reflect the new skill parameters with no reference to the change. Most game wikis include historical information about skills and items that have changed over time, but there is no historical information to be found on almost anything in the GW2 wiki.

Just salvaged 4 rares last night with a BL salvage kit and got 6 ectos from the lot, I seem to average 0-3 on rares, not sure if I’ve ever salvaged a exotic.

I doubt this existed or it was like 1 in 1000 chance. I never heared of anyone on my friendlist getting more than 3 ectos from salvaging an exotic.

I salvaged close to 5000 exotic trinkets while checking my ecto refunds. While your average refunds of ectos are pretty accurate, 4-5 ecto salvages still drop in my opinion. And even if they dont, they wont influence the rng data as i said before.

Perhaps, you don’t read the discussion pages, or peruse the histories. I’m not sure. There is a plethora of information on the wiki, if you look for it. =)

Yep, just a few hours ago.

The average salvage rate has always been 0.8-09 Ectos per rare.

That means almost 50% of your salvages are duds.

Yeah, there’s no question that with Rares it’s 0 – 3. There seems to be about a 25% chance of getting no Ectos going on my own personal experience.

I have no proof; but I believe the drop rate range for ectos shrank about the same time that Exotics started dropping globs of dark matter. That would mean the answer to the OP’s question is the beginning of September.

I thought so, I know you would have remembered it being 0 to 5 on exotics. Even the GW2 wiki lists rares and exotics as 0 to 3 ecto per salvage now with not one mention about the change, I thought there was a post by the devs about there not being any stealth nerfs? So what was this another feaux pas as it were.
