When does the fun begin?
I don’t know, it was fun for me at level 11. If you want something more challenging, just fight stuff of a higher level than you.
But then, I don’t know your definition of fun. What is it about the game that you want?
Like most MMOs the real fun starts when you’re max level (80) and geared out in exotics gear or higher. That’s when you can finally experience the more challenging and engaging content of GW2.
Ofcourse you can also just jump into sPvP right from the start to see how fun this game can be.
The real fun (for me) begins when I get to play with others. This is not level restricted.
I don’t know dude, I find sPvP and WvW pretty fun and I don’t even have to waste hours and hours on it, nor does the OP. He could jump right in and go straight to the good stuff. No need to do hours upon hours of boring stuff.
If you’re saying that you can sPvP right out of the intro, I don’t think that’s actually possible for new players to do any longer. I heard you have to get to level 22 to sPvP now.

You can always get to PvP if you know how. You can go through the gate in your home city to Lion’s Arch and go through the gate into the mists lobby. This not only allows you to enter PvP but it unlocks the PvP icon on top of your screen.

If the new account gets a char through the LA portals to WvW and PvP it will unlock for the account.
ANet may give it to you.
you can start having fun right now since you will be exploring the world, doing hearts and dynamic events, finding hidden treasure and jumping puzles form lvl 1-80
At lvl 80 you will most likely have all skills and minor traits available. Youll be able to join dungeons ,earn moneyz and get lvl 80 exotic gear and hunt down major traits /or buy them off whatevers more fun for you.
pvp is pvp, wvw is better with all traits and some deacent gear , there are also activities that are fun …again… some people see different things as fun.
The more you explore the world the more places you will “unlock” to quickly waypoint to. Such as tripple trouble event, tequatl event, guild missions ,dungeons and other megaboss events.
As for story…personally the story is ok, but the gameplay might be less ok.
Once you decide to unlock living world season 2 stories it gets better both in stories as well as combat and gameplay.
If youre looking for more pve challenges try orr or drytop and silverwastes.
In reality you will enjoy different things at different times.

They changed it. I think it’s level 20+ or something to get in to spvp.
I don’t see any lvl 2 naked norn rangers with purple mustache anymore. That’s my trusty indicator.

Nope, you can still go through the portal, at least as of last week when I did it on a new account.

I went thru the portals on my new alt account on the only char it had, a level 2. So you definitely can go through and unlock them that way.

Oh sorry, I didn’t know. Was always using the shortcut and didn’t bother reading what it says.

When Super Adventure Box is up again.
The real fun starts around 11pm on map chat doing world bosses.
I found it fun from the bet go, although as you leave the starter areas and gonout to explore, you probably enjoy it a lot more.
The story is pretty hit and miss, but i have enjoyed their more recent chapters a great deal more.
Once you hit level 80 there is a great deal to entertain you if any of is your sort of thing and you get downscaled in lower level zones to keep everything relevant.
- wvw and pvp for the competitive mind
- world bosses
- collections and achievements
- jumping puzzles
- cooperative zones
- guild challenges
- dungeons
Some of this you do as you explore, but the real advice is take your time and enjoy the game around you.

No they didnt change it. You can still get to sPvP as soon as you get out of the intro by doing what Vayne said, doesn’t matter if your account is new or not.

I assume by “fun” you mean a sobering look at Internet youth culture that makes you question if humankind has any hope of surviving the next hundred years.
I think it’s fun when you are getting to know a few people…, guildies, friends or just start recognising pug namesand pugs start to recognize yours (which happens to me atm, but I got 6000 hours in atm.)
So you have about 5996 hours to gather friends and have a comparable experience…
(you might be faster as I have a brain which leaks info like a bucket full of holes… guess it’s a problem of old age and such…)
Have fun !
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.

Basically what i meant LOL. Now lesbianest here, we wont survive the next 100 years but hey kitten it I wont have to worry about that. Now pertaining to the game itself, by fun i meant when do the enemies get challenging and wild, instead of the same enemies you see in any MMO. By fun i also meant, when do you, if ever that is, start exploring beautiful vistas or intricate dungeons ? Because not saying that i am not enjoying my time playing, but so far at lvl 13 everything is pretty basic and plain, the locations are mehhh, the story may as well not be there, and the enemies are just about what one would expect. I know i have barely scratches the surface, if that at this level but i was still expected much more after watching just about every review out there on the game before buying it.

Take your character into a higher level area and fight. Then the enemies are harder. You’re not limited to where you go. If you’re level 13 go fight level 18 creatures.
The first 20-30 levels of most games are basically tutorials, but really challenging content probably won’t happen until you’re closer to max level, unless you make your own challenges.
Solo some champs in zones a couple of levels higher than you if you want challenge.
Jump into WvW … as an uplevelled… you are challenged to survive all the time.
Vayne i understand what you are saying but that was not the difficulty i had in mind. I simply meant smarter opponents that would lead to more intricate fights that with the simple enemies i have encountered so far. But i absolutely believe you that the first 30 or so levels are a tutorial, which is one of the things that has kept me far away from MMO’s in the past. I hate having to push myself through that huge initial step. In my eyes a videogame should be enjoyable through and through but that’s a whole different discussion. Ohh and also thanks for all the replies guys

Just recently got back into the game, but for me I started really having fun around level 30 when you start building up your character more.
As far as challenge, Id say difficulty really start setting in once you hit the Ruins of Orr, which are 70+ zones. This was several years ago though. There are other zones on your way up that can be a challenge.
I recall dungeons being a bit difficult as well to do.
As far as your AI comment, it never has been seriously complex in MMOs. I hear though they are improving it with Heart of Thorns and players should expect to be facing more challenging content and AI.

Leveling in this game can be mega fast and you can go into EotM or PvP to level here, unlike most games.
Awesome thanks, so i should just focus on doing those heart objectives and the world events for now until the games opens up for me a little more or what? Also im a huge story nerd, does the story ever start getting to you or is it all just prime skip material?

Stories in MMOs don’t get as great as they do in single player games…at least I’ve never seen it happen. The ideas behind the stories however, can be amazing. It’s a matter of how much you go beyond what’s actually said. Let me give you an example of something that happened in this game.
Sometimes stuff happens in the world, that hints of stuff to come, but no one knows what it means. So one day, we’re hanging out in a zone called Kessex Hills. There’s this lake. And we’re swimming and boom, we hit an invisible barrier that had never been there before.
So we’re like wth. Then we start noticing some of the trees in the area had been logged, which had never existed before. No one knew why that was happening. We were all like talking and trying to figure out what was going on. A week or two later, the story starts up again, and we find that Kasmeer Meade, a mesmer we knew from previous stories, found a spell in the area, which she was able to remove, revealing a giant living tower build by krait in conjuction with the Nightmare court. But it was poisoned all along the base of the tower and we couldn’t get in.
We needed to gather spores from the tower in order to have an antidote to the toxin made so we could get in. That’s the type of story telling that happens in game.
But it’s never going to be as good as a single player game, for a whole host of reasons.
There’s plenty of story and lore though.
I found it fun from the very beginning but all my characters were started before the changes they started making about a year ago, which in my opinion lessened the fun. I liked exploring and completing the maps. Not even sure if you can see the vistas and skill challenges marked on the maps at your level. You will need those for map completion.
I liked leveling and gaining trait points starting at level 11. Now you need to reach level 30 before the first level of traits are unlocked and will have to complete tasks to unlock each trait. That will be challenging if you attempt those when you can because you will most likely be under-leveled. It was fun trying different builds using skills and traits. So that is something to look forward to. Depending on what profession you play traits can be important.
Also some professions are not as much fun as others. But each person has those they like better and it is not the same for everyone. And until you try them you won’t know since some surprised me being more fun than I expected. If you plan to engage in 1×1 combat with other players whether in wvw or spvp then it wouldn’t hurt to try all the professions so you know what each is capable of. Understanding all the professions would also help when fighting with them in your party in dungeons and fractals.
As another said it can be fun at any level even in this new version of the game if you explore and play with a friend or two and discover things as you go along.
Like most MMOs the real fun starts when you’re max level (80) and geared out in exotics gear or higher. That’s when you can finally experience the more challenging and engaging content of GW2.
Ofcourse you can also just jump into sPvP right from the start to see how fun this game can be.
I disagree with the first part. The game gets a whole lot less challenging once you reach max level. Being able to obliterate things that are nearly helpless might be fun for some though. Me, I tend to try and experience the content as it becomes available so new areas, dungeons and bosses faced on or below level offers some challenge.
As for the OP, it depends what you want out of the game. If it’s challenge you want, it ends with you soloing dungeons and meta events or ranked PvP. If it’s collecting, it ends with you aiming for map completion, full wardrobe, etc. If it’s aesthetics, you’ll probably take you to grinding out those legendary skins.
To me, there seems like a lot of things you can do in the game, it just doesn’t try to emphasize those things to make them seem necessary or of a high priority over other things. Just do stuff and be bad-kitten with your character.

Well see, this is where my post originated from. From the lack of urgency any and all game objectives seem to have. Now in no way am i saying i like hand holding in a game, the complete opposite actually, i just don’t feel enthralled to partake in anything at this point. Going after Vistas in this game is not satisfying in and of itself, but the completionist in me will do them regardless. And that basically goes for all the aspects of the game so far, my nature will force me to obtain and see as much as i can in the time spent in the world but my hunger for adventure is totally missing with this game. I mean crap, i kinda had hunger while playing the demo for WoW it’s surprising me that i am not finding it here.
Its not compulsory. If you don’t find it fun then you don’t. Not everyone can find the same fun, and even people who find the same things fun probably do so for different reasons. If you’ve tried it and you don’t like it then no biggie. Now you know; it’s better than wondering.

Hahaha i know and thank you but it is a big deal. LOL. No but on a serious note i am kind of tired of playing League or Fifa all the kitten time and plus iv always always wanted to really get into an MMO to experience all the fuss. So therefore I wont give up this easily ,just wanted you guys to point me in the right direction as to what the strong points of the game were to keep an eye out for them.

It’s a tough one since fun is subjective. Just try all the major game play options and see how you go. Personally, I have the most fun just running around the maps and doing “stuff”. Plenty of people find that boring though
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
Like what level do missions get chaotic and fun, or when does the story start to pull you in.
The main Personal Story starts at lvl’s 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, etc.
Back in our time, the Personal Story started at lv1 and you didn’t forget half the cr4p by the time you had gained the next 10 levels. Of course, lets not hate the way they changed that. If you do get around to doing the personal story, you’ll start to understand more about your characters destiny, rather than how cool it is to smash 111111 in an event, until you gain enough exp to carry on with the story.
So, I have an important question. What is your starting race. I personally am assuming Charr, because that is the only race I can think of that you might look at the landscape and go, “meh.” Ascalon is not super pretty. It’s all brown and desolate.
I’ll admit, Queensdale isn’t the greatest either. It has some really pretty places, but it’s still kinda whatever.
If you’re looking for astounding vistas you need to go to Maguuma or Shiverpeaks. That means heading to your home city, finding the big purple pink portal and taking it to Lion’s Arc, then finding the portal with Norn (giant humans), Asura (short guys with big ears) or Sylvari (plants) in front. The Norn starting area, I think, is the most fun of the lot. The Sylvari is the most pretty. The Asura is sort of in between.
What you will not find in this game is the challenge you are looking for. There is no point in which the mobs suddenly become really smart and unpredictable. They will never challenge you, ever. If that is what you’re looking for, I’m sorry, but you’re barking up the wrong tree. The only challenge you will get out of an MMO is, can I do enough damage to that before it does enough damage to me.
Some classes play with the idea of letting you control the fight a little more, but it’s really just an imposed restriction on you. This class can’t kill it faster than it can kill you, but it can slow down how fast it can kill you to make up the difference.
If that is how you define fun, this game will probably wear on you fast and become boring. I would recommend trying Dungeons, they might have enough extra pits to entertain you. I would recommend WvW and of course PvP. Players will always change the equation. If you get to 80, definitely try Fractals. But the mobs will always be the mobs. Very few are special in any meaningful way.
