Not this year as has been stated.

NCsoft just gave the go ahead to start on an expansion a month or two ago. So not for a while.

Enjoy all the weapon skins you can only get through RNG boxes in the mean time, though.

This isn’t quite true. NCsoft a month ago told investors that an expansion would be coming out and would be released when it’s most profitable to do so…just the thing you’d tell investors.

Anet has said they’re not actively working on an expansion, but that doesn’t mean they haven’t laid the groundwork for it already.

When NcSoft gave the okay for an expansion no one really knows, but they did talk about making expansions even before launch which would suggest it was already in the planning stages even back then.

There is an interview with Colin or Mike or Eric pre-launch that talks about expansions, and all (then) future content. I had it bookmarked, but that was on my computer that died. …sigh

Anyway, according to what they said back then, they had content mapped out and planned for years ahead (including expansions).

It will come out when all players are too bored of the game to buy an expansion….because many left and will leave and very few will want to buy an expansion.

Hope not this year, I already spent my internet allowance on a new cell phone (I can’t legally spend more than $400 a year online because of some venezuelan laws), plus I still have a lot yet to do in the game.

They promise 1 exp in 1 year. So end of August.

That was pre-launch. They didn;t keep to those plans for too long unfortunately.

The expansion has to come out either slightly before or around the same time as ESO. If it comes out afterwards they may as well forget it, because a large segment of the WvW crowd will be gone I think, and I doubt the PvE crowd will stick around either since I don’t really have friends that log in for PvE anymore on GW2.

Hopefully before Christmas I would say.

EDIT for clarification: Not saying ESO is going to be best game ever omg. I’m saying The Elder Scrolls is a household name and Guild Wars 2 fits a niche in the MMO universe.

I’m not that much in legendaries or www but I’m very much the pve type. Been there.done that. The graphics are great but seeing same maps till you get crazy is enough to get bored of this game. Got all maps twice and I’m way too bored to get them the third time. No point in it, did almoust all events,all hearts, skill points and stuff…The exploring gets lame the third time you do all the maps again…sad sad and sad

They didn’t keep the plans they made pre launch on any fronts really… They planned the game to have a expansion every 1-2 years like the first game but realistically I don’t see this happening at the rate they have been making disposable content. I’m guessing we’ll see a expansion announced 2014 and it should be out around 2015.

I’ve read quiet a few rumors that a.net is having financial issues which is why a few of the devs have left the company… had something to do with pay cuts but THIS IS JUST A RUMOR!. But my prediction stays the same I’m thinking we’ll hear about a expansion late this year or mid next year and the expansion will be out sometime 2015 if they keep doing disposable content for gw2…. If they lay off on the disposable content and just focus on balance/bug fixes and only major events holiday events like gw1 I could realistically see them announcing a expansion late this year and releasing it sometime next year.

There has never been any kind of timeline mentioned about expansions. The only thing they did definitively say was that they would not be releasing expansions/campaigns at the same rate as they did with GW1. Never a mention of an expansion in the first year, or even the first 2 years.

If you have seen them state this, please post a link to the article/interview because I would be very interested. =)

An expansion pack should be released to maintain the interest of establish players and keep goodwill/confidence in the commitment of Arenanet/NC Soft to Guild Wars 2.

Players would be willing to pay for an expansion especially if they know one is being released every 12 months. As to releasing expansion packs the same rate as the original game – you must be joking as well as insane.

There is now much more serious competition online such as Rift, Aion and SWTOR that provide stronger competition than what Guild Wars faced against. No mentioning that the big gorilla(aka WoW) is still around too.

No, it’s not. There have been multiple really good MMOs out there, but nobody cared ‘cause everbody only looked after WoW. GW1 has not been much competition anyway, it has been a totally different game. It is an utter mistake to compare GW1 to GW2. Perhaps even some devs still don’t get it.

But you are right. An expansion would get more friends than another platforming patch for jump’a’holics every two month. The lifeless story won’t do it.
