When will I get my Tengu
Theres way to many things to do right now… living story not working as intented (IMO) as is “not living story” yet, all results is the same end, no matter what you dont do! So is as living story as super mario was.
Theres alot big progress that anet could take on (that would call more players to the game) WvW / GvG etc etc, before they can add any other race or expansion.

Don’t care about any of that. Whether a story is living or not, it’s content and that’s all that matters.
Balance isn’t something content developers work with. Artists, writers and map designers are usually involved while programmers and numbers guys are the ones involved with balance. Both things can be worked in parallel.
Tengu? Perhaps later because I like my KFC fried chicken crispy. Now I would certainly like to see the Largos become playable since all of my characters are just placeholders waiting for something like that to happen… we’ll probably never see any new races in the future unfortunately.

You’ll get a new race with an expansion, which they’ve confirmed that they aren’t working on right now.
New race(s) will be in the expansion(s). They’ve said they’re not planning any expansions until the game is at least a year old but haven’t said any more than that. So September 2013 at the absolute earliest, probably several months after that.
I’m pretty sure tengu will be one of the first races added through just from the way they’re currently presented. The Domain of Winds is big enough to contain a racial capital and starting area, and has exits to two low level zones and to LA which makes it perfect for that purpose and the fact that it’s closed off at the moment implies that they intend it to be for exactly that purpose and don’t want us seeing it until then. Either because it will give away too much about Tengu characters or because they aren’t finalising the design until they start working on the expansion.
I also think the Kodan will be a playable race for much the same reasons. We’ve gotten a lot of detail on their culture and homeland for a race where only a few individuals are in-game (compare this with, for example, how little we knew about the charr before Eye of the North). It makes me think Anet plan to add them as a playable race later.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
We know that the tengu are asian themed.
And we also know that Arenanet won’t include Cantha because apparently “Asians dislike being represented in video games together with other Asians in a mishmash of culture”.
We know this led to the entire canthan district of Divinity’s Reach to be entirely scrapped and replaced with a gaping hole.
Put 2 and 2 together
So thats why all asians game have Elves?!
Depending on what you’ve got already, the training time is around 60 to 70 days, but that doesn’t include modules and… oh wait. wrong game.
Thanks Rising Dusk and Danikat. Was what I was looking for.
I guess I’ll have to settle for one of the other races although I had my heart set on a Tengu Ranger. No point waiting a year for it to come out. I’ll just reroll it later if I’m still around.
As for what race gets released, I don’t care. If it was Largos or Kodan first, that would tell me that either Tengu wouldn’t be released or it would but much later which further tells me “just roll your stuff now”.
I was honestly hoping to hear that they were just going to release new races/areas within Tyria (the continent) in content updates and release whole continents (Cantha and Elona and whatever else) as expansions.
Since they haven’t started work on the expansion, perhaps we can convince them to revise what types of content go into what types of updates/expansions.
I don’t think there’s been any official word on how they’re handling new races… outside of a) not now, and b) earlier hints that they’ll get to them at some point.
It’s not going to be soon though, you can count on that; probably not this year even.
