When will STOP?
Yeah i see that the Balthazar set that’s coming out might be a outfit too…i would buy it if it was a heavy armor skin, but if its a outfit…so i will not…shame really. They can make money if they wrap up a entire set of skin set instead of a entire outfit.
What i am trying to say is players like to customize their characters..outfits restrict that…release skins please. don’t care if the skins are in one set 800 gems..just make it skins so we can customize with different pieces too..i mean i bought the primeval and only use head skin.
this is so true. i used bought 3 outfit. and its totally useless now. never wear it.
i stopped buying after waste gem.
In their defense, outfits were a HUGE thing in gw1. They just implemented it late for gw2.
But I do agree skins would be nice. Full sets too, not random gloves or boots.

Maybe they slowed down putting armor skins in the gem store because of all the threads complaining about it, hmmmm? Every time they’ve put armor in the gem store there are threads about it being in the gem store and not in game.
Imo, outfits are exactly what they should be selling in the gem store.
ANet may give it to you.
Outfits are inherently much easier to design, because of the fact they do not need to worry so much about splitting it into parts. This is one of the reasons why the newer outfits tend to be higher quality than the older ones.
Maybe the team in charge of armor sets are working on polishing HoT armors? I’m sure the expansion will come with tons of sets that will hopefully appease the masses.
I bought all the outfits.
I like outfits.

I’m glad they’re putting outfits into the gemstore, that way they can release armor sets in game as something you earn like the carapace set and lumi set.

You could change your head piece in GW1 tho.
The outfits in gw looked alot better than most of their armor, or mis matched (like med on a heavy class)
I think instead of not selling outfits (which are good because each class can use it so less models needed) they should change the outfit slot, and make it separate for shoulders, gloves, boots, etc
Even if that cost transmutation charges it would be fine as say you like the shoulders of this outfit that chest armor and legs from another outfit you could have all 3.
Basically the wardrobe feature but with outfit pieces. They could even remove the outfit tab and just include them in the wardrobe tab (maybe on bottom separated from the armor collection) That could even start outfits with weapons.
Jesus.. if it doesn’t affect you don’t worry about it. In no way does Anet releasing outfits affect you if you don’t like them. If you play the game ONLY to get armor skins i suggest you stop playing and go play Sims 3.
They will stop putting that stuff in the gemstore when people stop buying that stuff from the gemstore. its pretty logical but i don’t see the problem of them selling the outfits really if its not something you like then don’t buy it.

But isn’t that your fault? You bought an outfit and now you don’t wear it anymore.. okay, that’s your decision. If this is a flaw for you same logic could be applied to armor skins from the gemstore.
Currently playing Heart of Thorns.
Outfits: Good Vs Bad
The good
- Can be changed without the cost of transmigation charges.
- Doesn’t change when you get new gear (Wich means it’s a nice thing to have when leveling.
- Helmet piece can be hidden.
The bad
- Can only be coloured in 4 different colours for the whole outfit.
- Can’t mix and match.
In my opinion, Outfits are nice but I would rather haver gear to mixand match becouse I like that alot. But as long as we can get new mix and match gear for playing the game I am ok with millions of outfits in the store becouse I don’t have to buy it if I don’t like it.

I have only one problem with outfits; I want to be able to use my OWN headgear. My Ele wears a Seer’s Mask for flavour reasons, and the fact that I can’t turn off the outfit helmets and use my current helmet means she can’t wear outfits. I can’t imagine headgear would have many clipping issues (and the release of the wings shows they don’t care TOO much about clipping..), so this should be fairly simple to implement. I’m gonna stop buying them until this option exists.
Until the majority of the playerbase quits buying them, they are not going away.
The outfits likely take a 10th of the resources to make (maybe less) and earn them as much (if not more) $ than armor. I HATE outfits, but I can’t blame Anet for promoting something with such a drastic profit differential. You have to realize they are not doing it out of spite against those of us that don’t want the dolly-dress-up costumes.
Hating on Anet for wanting to make more money is just silly.
Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances
ANet, like any company, wants to sell what sells well. It’s quite possible, judging by how many people are wearing an outfit the day it’s first available, that outfits sell much more than armor. A light armor, for example, will only be bought by those who have a light armor char and who like that armor enough to commit to changing their char’s look (essentially) permanently. An outfit can be bought by any that it appeals to and the new look is not a commitment but a whim.
If outfits far outstrip armor in what sells in the gemstore then ANet would be foolish to make a lesser selling product (the armor).
ANet may give it to you.
Anet keeps releasing outfits because A) people do like them, People are willing to pay money for them, C) People don’t like the looks that armor provides, and like the outfits, D) Because they want to.

Agreed. They should add more armor skins to the game, and I don’t doubt that they will, probably coming with the expansion, but if outfits make them more money than armor skins, that’s a pretty reasonable justification for making more outfits than armor skins.
I really like outfits
I can appreciate wanting more skins also, but there are definitely people out there who like and will continue to purchase outfits.

Actually they were implemented late in GW1 as well, likely as a feature that was implemented due to the conceptualization of GW2. In fact, no microtransactions aside from PvP starter packs and edition bonus upgrades existed before GW2 was announced.
GW2 just tried to improve on the feature with town clothes, which were mix-n-matchable and individually dyeable. However it took the artists a while before they added the new shirts and pants that made the feature even remotely desirable for someone who didn’t want to be a chef, pirate or boxer. No features were implemented to automatically change into or encourage changes into town clothes while in cities.
It was all a bit like underwater combat. Overall a great idea, but it didn’t get the developer attention it needed to be viable. This lead to people forgetting/avoiding it.
The reasons for switching to outfits are pretty apparent though. They require a lot less comparing, they don’t have to mix well with other armors/clothes.
Interesting note here: In GW1 for a long time it was uncommon to see someone who mixed armors.
If ANet makes money off it, by all means continue. More money equals a better supported game, and support from gem store outfits doesn’t detract from my gameplay at all.
I’m not a fan of outfits for the same reasons as others (mix’n’match) but the economic benefits of having them in the gem store far outweighs the loss of not having some more armor sets to unlock, in my opinion.
I forget, were people this whiny about costumes in GW1? Because outfits are literally the exact same thing.

They sold costumes and I don’t recall ever seeing a single complaint about them. I don’t even know why people condemn outfits and demand gem store armor anyway. Why aren’t they praising outfits in the gem store and asking for armor in game?
In the past, when ANet did sell gem store armor, there were numerous complaints about the fact they were in the gem store. Recently ANet has started putting armor in game behind a token system (and there was a long thread asking for that very thing, I think it was the thread about RNG). For whatever reason, some people still want gem store armor instead of praising ANet for putting outfits there and the last armor sets in game.
No matter what ANet does. People complain.
ANet may give it to you.

Lol you say they only care about money, then you demand they put armour skins in the gem store.

I’d be perfectly fine with the gemstore exclusively selling outfits as well… if we could get more regular in-game additions. As it is the gemstore seems to be the only source for new armor, so player would obviously prefer to have armor since it allows for more customization of character looks.

I’d like to see the outfits trend continue, along with the trend of adding skins to the game that can be earned through play. I expect we will see both outfits and armor sets in the store, and armor in the game as well. I’d like to see posters develop a sense of perspective, wherein they look at the state of cosmetics in the game and can see that not every single thing added is going to be for everyone. I expect that posters will continue to kitten about every addition to the game as if they were the only ones playing the game.
Well 2 things.
1. To introduce a new armourset to the Gem Store, they will need to make 3 versions of it (light, medium and heavy) which takes up a lot more time than simply creating a generic outfit.
2. If you don’t want the outfit… Don’t buy it!
We have recently had a new armourset added tot he game (Silverwastes Armour), so to say that they are not giving us new armour sets is unfounded. They will give us new TP armour sets when they have a relevant one to add… they won’t just slap stuff into the gem store for the sake of it… it has to have some sort of relevance to the current game situation. Perhaps wait for the Expansion where i’m sure many new armoursets will be added.
People ignore that Outfits don’t have a armor type requirement.
Jesus.. if it doesn’t affect you don’t worry about it. In no way does Anet releasing outfits affect you if you don’t like them. If you play the game ONLY to get armor skins i suggest you stop playing and go play Sims 3.
The problem here is that I do like the outfits. But a lot of times there’s a certain aspect of it I don’t particularly care for, usually the shoulders. Or, I might only like half off the pieces.
Maybe if anet were to sell a “whole” set as well as individual pieces alone, and then adjust the prices accordingly maybe. [Outfit: 800 gems, 1 piece: 100-200 gems?.] That the very least, they could add a way of hiding glove / shoulder pieces.
And to be honest, of course people play the game for skins. Most of the rewards in this game are skin-based. APs = more skins to choose from, often collections are = collect these skins, Legendaries = look at this shiny fancy skin, ascended armor = the stat boost is so low, look at this new skin!…. It’s pretty hard to just ignore. Granted, some people legitimately like playing the content, but it gets pretty repetitive if you’re not working towards anything. PvP / WvW can get so to, though I suppose that’s more of a personal preference.
There are 3 new armors being developed now as we speak. The heavy “Rytlock” armor. The Leyline armor (all 3 armor weights) and an unnamed armor set (probably all weights when done). With any luck ANet will be reading the threads complaining about armors not being in the gem store and put them there and not in game. After all, that’s what those posters asked for wasn’t ’it? Gem store armors?
At any rate, there are 7 armors in development, more if the female versions are counted as well as each weight. Since each armor set has 3 weights and then 2 different versions within each weight for male/female, one set will have 6 different armor looks, at least 6 times the work of one outfit. They are naturally going to take longer to make than any single one piece outfit.
ANet may give it to you.
