Where Spears/Halberds ever a concept?

Looking at the new Chinese trailer video (and I assume it was in the English as well?) I noticed a scene in which a Sylvari was running across a bridge and holding what seemed to be a Halberd of some sort. This is not the general Staff run so I’m not sure what it is? I also noticed that a lot of conceptual art and backgrounds DO show characters holding spears.

That may be the Verdant staff skin. Spears are a weapon already, but used for underwater combat.
