Where are my OLD Characters from GW2???
If you are trying to contact Arenanet directly (to get an answer from someone who can actually tell you what happened) you need to use the Support link at the top of the page, this forum is for players to talk to each other.
Having said that we could probably help you if you can provide some more information.
What had happened before you logged in and found you had to make new characters? Had you taken a break from the game? Had your account been banned? Were you playing on a free account before and then bought the game?

It’s a bug.
Don’t tell me your account name is actually your game key…
In that case some hacker simply claimed ownership over your account, took everything and deleted your characters. If your account name is indeed your key, you should contact support immediately and have them change your account name. You should also discuss a new method of proving your identity, since that code is now openly available.

I seriously hope it’s just a bug and not the actual game key.
It’s not a Serial Key, his/hers or anyone else’s. Wrong number of alpha-numeric characters, wrong spacing.
The Devs have already asserted this ‘bug’ does not use Serial Keys. It looks more like a Guid.

Somewhere along the line a dev confirmed it’s not a game key.
I had the same issue myself when I started in August last year. Support confirmed to me that it wasn’t a game key/serial number, just a placeholder. They changed it to what I wanted on request and confirmed that my account was at 0 risk from having that as my account name, just messed up the guild/friend panel was all lol.

You’ll have to contact support.
