Q:
Where can a friend download the client?
A:
Windows:
http://cloudfront.guildwars2.com/client/Gw2Setup.exe
Mac:
http://cloudfront.guildwars2.com/client/Guild%20Wars%202.dmg
They might have a special trial client though, which I imagine would basically be the same thing but smaller – only downloading what the trial is able to access.
I have sent those who I plan on inviting a copy of the GW2.exe file. When you download the client normally (or were in the beta) that was the only file you needed. To download there isn’t a login required and the entirety of the game consists of GW2.exe, a .dat file, and a small handful of other files which the .exe creates as it patches.
In summation, you don’t need to torrent anything, you just need to give them a small .exe and then they can download the client themselves.
It is also possible that once invitation goes live on the 12th, download links will be provided in the invites.
I can’t imagine they would have a problem with people sharing the client because without an account it’s basically just a useless file (or if you have the software to decompile the .dat file a bunch of pretty pictures and text).
It’s not like they have to worry about piracy like off-line games.

you can always copy the game’s folder directory to a USB and hand it over. the DAT file is the main file that gets updated, and it saves on re-downloading all those gigabytes.
