Where'd all the RP'ers go?
Megaservers happened. They split all server communities up because you get placed randomly in a map.
You do not get placed randomly in a map. The megaserver map you get placed in is influenced by your home server, your guild, your friends list, and your party. For example, if your home server is Tarnished Coast, you are quite likely to be put in a DR map with RPers in it.
Try and guild up and friend up, you’ll get more of a chance ending up in the same shard if you don’t already. I don’t know if you’re Tarnished Coast or Piken Square, but pretty much most people from Piken Square have no trouble finding the right RP shard.
If you are from Piken, it’s happening a lot at [The Maiden’s Whisper] atm if you’re looking for Divinity’s Reach tavern RP. Some at the tavern in Ebonhawke too
I’ll RP with you! I want me some RP too… people are fond of doing it in Rata Sum nowadays for some reason.

That doesn’t always help.
I’m in a big RP guild, and my home server is TC. I’ve lost track of the times I’ve zoned in and out of DR trying to find the instance with the RPers in it, until I just gave up in disgust.
Honestly, repping my private guild seems to give me about the same odds.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

Keyword: influenced.
I’m representing a guild from my home server Tarnished Coast with dozens of people in Divinity’s Reach, I have a few friends in Divinity’s Reach, and I’m in a party with some of said friends, and I STILL get shoved into some other random map copy.
Since April, the algorithm has hardly gotten any better. It’s still extremely difficult to make it into the same map copy as my friends, no matter what. If we’re not in a party together, it’s an absolute nightmare to go anywhere because we keep getting split up, even though we’re all from the same home server.
Until we get either the option to choose which map copy we want to play on, or the option to opt out of megaservers altogether, you are REQUIRED to join a roleplay guild and constantly ask for a taxi. There is no other way.
I have heard on my server that The Grove is still very, very popular with the rp’ers. Just had a guildy talking to me about it last night…..how he wished he wasn’t crafting there and stuff…..poor guy got all creeped out
Mmo players with a screw loose vs mmo players with two screws loose. All very important stuff.

Megaservers did hurt the RP community — but some are still around. Just have to find them.
How to find Rp’ers in the grove? Things will be exciting at grove, now they have found they are dragon minions:P

This and the ongoing focus on anything and everything other than PVE open world has scared most of us off.
I’m still here! Just not always in DR. Yumiko is in Silver Wastes doing her job as War Master/Commander of indigo cave.
All that matters is that they’re GONE! Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.
RPers are still there. Still see them walking around DR, LA or most every other part of the game.
Though who knows… Maybe a lot of them got sick of little kittenheads constantly spamming emotes or AoE’s to just ruin peoples fun. (Because you know, no possible way some gamers out there can just let other people be… Not having fun unless they are ruining some other peoples day…)
… The human race would never have to worry about be oppressed again.”
I think trolls should have their computers smashed. ’Its all part of the game. U mad bro?’
I’ve run into three scenes in particular lately.
- A conversation in the Grove about the nature of the latest reveal and less directly, why Ventari’s teachings are flawed. Without resorting to the Nightmare as an alternative.
- A conversation in Lion’s Arch in the form of an asura escorting a ‘newborn’ sylvari around and trying to explain Scarlet’s invasion without invoking guilt.
- Two people debating whether the Ministry was even needed at all if all human lands safely ruled by the Queen can be summed up as “all that can be seen from the top of Divinity’s Reach”.
It’s a sad statement, but the mega servers did kill off a lot of the RP community. Not completely. But it is not as abundant as it used to be.
Very noticeable on former ‘RP’ servers like Tarnished Coast.
Sad state all around.
Come to Tarnished Coast if you want to RP. Plenty of RP guilds still very active. I see them all over but not in one specific place, though there is this one erotic RP guild that hangs out near the Dwayna statue in Divinity’s Reach.
Just find yourself an RP guild, even if you’re not on TC, and then you’ll know where the RP action is.
I don’t think ANet ever really catered to the RP community in any case

So they roleplay in there underwear?
Anet is anti-RP. Sorry, but thats the fact of it. Walling off areas where we could go to find peace, refusing point-blank to reduce emote range so as not to affect non RPers, and megaservers with no official RP shard.

Are they anti-RP or do they just not support it as much as people would like? There is a difference.

Okay… to rephrase.
The only changes Anet have made that has affected RP have all had a negative impact on it, and they have never implemented anything RPers have asked for which would assist them. The RP community is insignificant to Anet.

I don’t blame them. All the RP (and I use the term very, VERY loosely) I’ve ever seen in Hoelbrak and The Grove reminded me very much of Stephenie Meyer’s writing and I’m sure it just made Angel McCoy jealous.
