Funny, I get two of the most expensive precursors as drops but I have spent well over 700g on the forge – and have nothing to show for it.

I have two (one already used to make a legendary).

I got the hunter during the karka even back in November. I bought venom on the TP for 29 gold while I was still working on the Predator. Last I looked it was 22 gold. And it has really cool eels on it. I love the animation (which is why I’m working on getting it now).

Second ever combination of various gold weapons. I was just getting rid of a bunch of golds hoping for some exotics. As all things are with the forge it was just dumb luck.

I acutally think that it is not a matter of of full MF set, but rather the amount of time you spend in the game… It is obvious you spent there at least 1500 hours, I remember your posts about legendaries and now you tell us how you spent 700g on MF… You see I play since BWE1 almost everyday, run with full MF set on trashmobs since December too. But never got any precursor yet. You know why? I played twice or thrice as less as you did…. That’s the whole concept of getting precursors… you have to invest your time, not count on luck.

Luck is involved, 2700+ hours played, the other 3 gifts for Incinerator, 250+g at forge, best drop I’ve had is Khilbron’s Coat (12G+-) got it today in WvW from a Vet Scout, Vol was lucky. Either that or I’m extremely unlucky. (leaning more towards Vol being very lucky) Seen people who literally are new to the game and get one from the MF, luck is involved (a bit too much IMO).

Well it’s a bit of both. You play more, the more ‘chances’ you get at rolling for the precursor

what are these “precursors” you speak of?
I have heard tales spoken of these “precursors”, but since the long ago beta times, have seen no proof of their existence other then vague rumors and whispers spoken on the wind.

Bought the two bow precursors from the TP. I got Lover for like 113g after the Shores event. Leaf of Kudzu for like 420g that I saved up for.

The Legend
Lions Arch (Mystic forge), x4 exotic staves
~1,100 hours

The Lover
Lion’s Arch (Mystic forge), x4 exotic shortbows
~1,100 hours (Day after legend)

The Collosus
Rata Sum (Portable conduit), x4 exotic hammers
~1,100 hours (Day after Lover).

(I kept none of them, and have no plans to craft a legend at this time, purely business for me :p) I reinvested the funds from juggernaut (~500g) into exotics to see if I could mass produce precursors for a net profit but turned up no additional precursors in around 120 combination attempts leading me to suspect the three I got were more blind luck than a pattern.

My data (180 samples) shows less than 2.5% chance of a precursor when using exotics – and that number has been falling over time since it was front-loaded with the 3 lucky rolls. The odds of getting a precursor with rares is staggeringly low by comparrison. (~0.1%)

TP. lowest sell listing was 540g, I uppercut the next-highest buy order with one for 500g00s02c, then an hour or so later someone placed a buy order for 520g, so I just bought the sell listing :P

0 precursor, never used MT though. But how can you account played hours ? … In GW1 there was a counter…but I didn’t find any in GW2…where is it if any ?

It’s highly likely the precursor concept will involve playing varied different content all over the game to gather numerous content specific materials that are combined together to make a precursor.

a year to do it?? hahaha …. after 1500 hours, want to do is repeat the same thing?

Purchased Dawn, 340G during the massive price drops following the Cove grabbag event. (Was out of town during the event).

From the Mystic Forge. Got 7 precursors from the forge altogether, sold them all but the one I wanted and netted 400g.

I’m not sure how many hours I had played when I finally got it. Maybe 1500?

Hundreds and hundreds of attempts in the Mystic Forge. I’d estimate well over 1000 greatswords crafted.

I’ve seen a lot of precurser drops though, usually they get them off of Orr bosses. Boss events are suppose to be the best chance other than dumping exotics into that giant garbage disposal unit slapped down in front of the LA bank. Man, I bet there is a 5 ton ball of wet wipes and corroded fat lurking under that thing.

If I ever find one randomly, I’ll just be holding a Sweepstakes for it.

I don’t plan on ever making a Legendary until I see Anet put out that Scavenger hunt they’ve been promising for nearly a year now. And even then I won’t be dedicating my entire time to it. In Gw1 when they announced the HOM, I had enough Titles & junk for 25 Points in it. Then fast forward 2 or 3 years and I only gained about 10 more b/c I thought anything beyond “Ghostly Hero” was just too austentacious

Leaf of Kudzu: a gift from a friend in return for standing up for him after he was constantly harassed by people who were jealous of the copious amounts of gold he had via playing the TP early in the game. I was just being a good friend.

Have you thought that maybe so that a legendary would be the value of a legendary , developers are keeping precursors at a % of the people in guild wars or /server .

Like they will give 0,001 % of population the chance to have a legendary , some will keep it , some will sell it.

I got Venom
From either a Hylek or Quaggan in WvW can’t remember which.
Got it within the 2nd-3rd week the game was live.

Sold it for 4g 50s (big money back then y’know)

I bought The Hunter from money I got from getting the Spark out of the Mystic Toilet. I threw 3 random exotics and a mystic forgestone in there, got spark, sold it for 600 gold and bought the Hunter

And that time I had played around 1.000 Hours.

I got the Legend off a jellyfish in Southsun when the +200% MF buff was running. My playtime now on my main is about 1200-odd hours so it will have been somewhere around 1000 then I guess. Sold it to buy Leaf of Kudzu since I can’t use a staff.

I bought the Lover after the Karka Event by selling all my T6 mats I had at the time.

Paid off because Precursors were really “cheap” at that time and T6 mats were expensive.

I paid 130 Gold for it iirc.

I can relate to that. I’ve been playing since launch and have never come across one of these mythical beasts.

Dusk, Penitent Waypoint, 0% MF, I think I’d played like 800 hours or something.

I have only made Dusk into a legendary. Looking back, this is kind of sad. I would have found obtaining these much more rewarding if there was some skill/scavenger hunt/epic adventure involved.

I am convinced my account is marked as just about every member of my guild and fl (300+ ppl) have less than 1/2 my hours and have gotten much more and much better drops also better luck with forge than I have.
