So I played the beta weekends, absolutely loved the game. I pre-ordered the game and played hardcore on release. As time went on I ended up getting a decently geared Necromancer and a badly geared Mesmer to 80. I then quit for a very long time.

So I’m asking where do I start now? I plan on making my badly geared Mesmer my main but I don’t want to join a dungeon group and slow them down because of my bad gear, but I don’t know how else to get my guy geared up. I’d appreciate any advice to be given <3.

so if you want a headstart back to the “metagame” I recommend you spend a couple days doing nothing but farming the Edge of the Mists, in there, you can get tons and tons of badges of honor, which you can turn for a full set of exotic berserker armor.

Keep doing your dailies, if you have some laurels saved up, go to the Edge of the Mists laurel vendor and turn 20 laurels for an ascended berserker amulet. If you have more laurels, I recommend getting some rings, but if not, buy yourself the rest of the trinkets in exotic rarity berserker, buy around 5 embellished ruby orbs and put them into the trinkets (once you can afford all of this)

Finally, you need to get 6 runes of the scholar (quite pricey nowadays, around 20g total), and put them on the armor you acquired from badges of honor.

At this point you’re ready to go into dungeons.

You can also buy level 78-79 exotic Berserker armor off the Trading post for about 1 gold per piece; a full set takes only a single day of harvesting resource nodes, and is only like 3-5% below the stats of full level 80 exotics, so it can hold you over.

Use Ruby Crystals (if lv78-79) or Ruby Orbs (if lv80) until you can afford the runes.

You can get a rare Berserker backpiece from the guild armorer for 5g. If you want an exotic one you can either earn guild commendations, craft an Exotic Spinal Blades or some ascended backpiece. The last two have roughly equal costs since Blade Shards must now be transmuted from Watchwork Sprockets.

Don’t use the fractals backpiece, its useless until upgraded as it can’t take gems.

Use Superior Sigil of Force in your mainhand weapon, and Sigil of Battle or Bloodlust in your off-hand/alt set or Sigil of Fire if you are specc’ed into Precision.

(Beware of upcoming changes to all of these things on April 15th.)

Just buy some gold and then buy exotics from the TP. Much easier and faster.

Then get ready to grind for your ascended gear if you do stuff like WvW if you want to be on an equal footing. Despite what anyone on this forum says, stats matter.
