Where do guilds war in Guild Wars II?
The name is not a reference towards any game mechanic, but instead a reference to the Guild Wars that rocked the world of Tyria long ago and are a part of its history.
In light of the fact that Anet has made it clear it wants to encourage a community that doesn’t breed animosity through conflict (within servers), I can’t see them inplementing actual G vs G. That’s what sPvP and WvW is for

No… They WILL be adding Guild Wars. ANet just decided to sell us an unfinished product and will implement it later.

I am grumpy actually. :S
And there is no source, I’m just saying, if they don’t add it, I’m most likely going to end up quitting the game.
Guild battles are not a core feature of GW2, and it was never supposed to be. The name is a referencing a major event in lore, nothing else. GW doesn’t revolve around guild battles, and thankfully it never will. I won’t count on such a frivolous feature to be added anytime soon, as there are much more important issues to be solved both in PvE and PvP.

GvG is a much more frivolous feature than SPvP is, to be honest.

Then just go already, complaining about gw2 not being completed is the dumbest thing i heard. The game is Complete, its the most polished mmo ive ever played, more content will be coming, but for now this is enough and people should stop kittening about every little kitteny thing they can come up with.

you do realize that this was never promised as being part of the game right?
stop being so mother kittening entitled
I’m entitled to a game I payed full price for, that isn’t even finished.

Please leave these forums, and leave this game. You’re the type of person that gives GW2 a bad name.
Actually its people like you who i despise, complaining about every little thing they can find,“threathening” to leave the game if they dont do this and dont add that,seriously..just go buddy, nobody is stopping you

Saying that there is no Sub fee. You get your moneys worth compared to most other games. MMOs
This game is not perfect, But they give more then enough stuff for the 60 bunks
I think the OP is just wondering if this game is getting a large feature that GW1 had, no more:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild_versus_Guild
They also had World Championships around said feature. To me I find a little revisionists history in the whole Guild Wars doesn’t really mean Guild Wars. I know when GW1 wasn’t even released how they always talked about that singular feature being a very key one, if not the most key one. PvE was a trainer towards PvP and GvG being the ultimate as they dreamed of e-sport. Then well, stories start evolving once ya know…

right now the only way to get your guild warfare fix is by playing WvW.
however, ANet has stated multiple times (including on a very recent interview) that they would really really love to implement guild halls, but they have a bunch of other priorities on the way.
and with guild halls…
for the hundreth time in this forum: Guild Wars is a name derived from the game world´s history. Though apart from the thread title you chose, I agree with you, the feature (which was big in the predecessor) is really missing in this game.
On the forums, apparently. :P

Finally a salvageable reply. Yes, this is more or less the information I was looking for.
so, a GvG can be expected in future releases – either through Mist battles or WvW. this is most of what I needed to know. If not against the guilds on the same server, I’d like to have GvG against other servers.
one more question – in spvp tournaments, will be have an option to pick the enemy guild or group? I’m pretty sure they won’t have randoms in paid tournaments (i.e. a random group of 5 non-cooperative players). we just want a better quality / class of opponents, because pug stomping is boring and pointless.
Thank you for the information and the off-topic tea party stuff.

What is not finished? Bugs don’t count. Even polished mmos like WoW have major bugs in them from time to time.

Just to “enlighten” you, this game (and the one prior) was/are called “Guild Wars” for a lore/historical reference.
“Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance” never meant a manual on how to fix your bike.
Sure love to see it, but just wait, it will come.
In the past, they stated that WvW is what they always intended for GvG to be. Furthermore, they didn’t like the fact that there were so many different modes of PvP in GW1 because not only did it separate the community into groups but it also made it harder for people to join in due to having to learn a new format.
GvG as a format will probably not be making a return.
The closest premade vs premade / competive format would be tournament PvP, paid more so. The even higher competitve format would be a branch of that, being the seasonal matches, assuming they’re still doing that. If you want to go straight to the top, that would be the world matches, but those will depend on how successful GW2 is.
If you want to duel with another guild, then custom arenas (coming soon) will be the place for that. Custom arenas are basically private maps.
I seriously hope they add something similar to gvg back in gw2. At the moment, spvp is proving to be an extremely poor choice as a serious pvp format and is rapidly losing its playerbase. The game was not finished when it was released and the pvp is missing so many crucial components that it’s almost too late now.

GvG was the biggest selling point of gw1. The game is named after gvg. The lore was made to give gvg some context in pve. If you play through the original gw1 campaign, the only reference you get to this lore is through a vague comment by an npc. Majority of players will never heart about this historical event unless they specifically go out to find it.
Honestly, I almost only do PvE, but I believe people who like a certain PvP thrive on this competition and the total lack thereof makes GW2 unattractive to people who prefer this power political pvp. Which is ok by me really. That been said, I would enjoy some GvG as long as it is instance based and as long as you can’t farm other guild their influence.
They just had to change everything in guild wars 2 for no reason lol.
There will be GvG in gw2, it was fundamental pvp in gw1. How popular and how well executed it will be is a whole other matter. What we have now is similar to team arenas or heroes ascent.
Guild Halls have to come first! and so do map additions (Lost Shores) and bug fixes, as well as holiday events!
I assumed the “Guild War” referred to the war within destiny’s edge.
The only thing that concerns me a bit about actual guild wars is how it would impact my enjoyment in WvW, as it might mean big guilds move ‘out’ of WvW into wherever this new area will be, and anyone like me in the special GDI guild that doesn’t want to join a fra… I mean guild, won’t get to participate in that.
But I guess it was fun (a lot of fun, surprisingly, and I’m not one to PvP in games, other than DAoC 30 BG, Darkness Falls and WoW’s Wintergrasp – which ironically, WvW seems like a mash-up of) while it lasted.

You are not entitled to GvG because the game was never advertised as having it.
You cannot just pick a feature at random and insist that because it’s not ingame you haven’t got the game that you paid for…
If they fail to include advertised features, that’s a different story.
in the list of developers I have the least faith & trust in.
Congratulations ArenaNet!

Maybe they misunderstood and thought the game was being marketed as “Guild Wars, too.”

Yesterday in my server (Sorrow’s Furnace) we had our quote of guild wars when members from different guilds started to flame each other because we suck at WvWvW.
