I am just curious where Mike O’Brien has been? Pre-launch he was very accessible and all over the place. He’d post on Reddit and of course give high-profile interviews to big pubs like Forbes.

But it’s been conspicuously silent from the top. I think one of the things that has characterized ArenaNet as a company has been the communication from all levels with players but that seems to have ceased. Why?

Is it because everything is going just as the emperor had foreseen? Or is there lots going on in the war room to figure out how to turn GW2 into a success?

If you look at these forums there are complaints – just as there are on every MMO forum. But something is different here – folks are still discussing core foundational problems or bugs. The kind of discussion that a game like Age of Conan or Star Wars: The Old Republic enjoyed after launch.

But if you go to Blizzard’s WoW forums you see something different. Players are simply complaining about gameplay such as class balance like nerfs and things. But there is satisfaction with the core game. That doesn’t seem to be the case here.

There is unrest in the forest… there is trouble with the trees. Hearing from Treebeard might go a long way in strengthening the fellowship.

How long ago did he post?

I’m pretty sure he said just before Xmas that they’d be doing another Reddit when they come back after the holidays.

There’s plenty of complaining on the WoW forums (and every MMO forum).

If anything it’s worse on WoW forums as it’s the same crowd as Diablo 3 – blizzard die-hards, mostly kids and immature adults stuck in gear-ego rat race who just reply with “lolol l2p nub qt” – whereas here we actually have most people with proper grammar and actual words.

Hehe no.

The typing of complaining here on these forums indicated systemic problems and universal dissatisfaction with things that may not be able to be fixed.

Complaining about class balance is one thing. Complaining about how the game works or doesn’t – and is fun or isn’t – is another discussion entirely. And that’s what we have here.

WoW has had years to sort it’s core systems out. GW2 has had 4months. I’m not guranateeing it will change on here, but that’s the current reason.

There are blog and forum posts addressing many of the issues allready. Orr, dynamic events, old dungeons story and explorable. Bug fixes are bug fixes, they’re an ongoing thing. A sticky has been made regarding the “perceived” loot drop rates. Fun is always a subjective term and is argued in many MMO forums. I think they’ve addressed plenty in the forums and in their other forms of communication, they’ve even addressed WHY the devs don’t post on the forums on every topic on a daily basis.

I don’t think they realize just what’s going on. They built this game on the word of mouth of the players. They are losing more and more players everyday due to the lack of priorities and the loot issues and the lack of bug fixes because people are tired of waiting for most of it and it seems they just aren’t hiring people fast enough to take care of some of these bugs that have been there since before launch. Him going around and doing interviews isn’t going to bring in fresh blood it’s always been the word of mouth of players over the internet that’s made games popular or not. Give a few more incidents like Nov16 and they’ll have built up enough bad word of mouth to start harming the game. I too await the AMA and hopefully this time they won’t filter the thing like they did last time. I want to know exactly what they plan on doing about the loot problems.

Things I’d personally like to ask Mike O’Brien:

- will they finally adjust DR to stop harming the players, or remove it entirely since it’s failed to keep bots at bay?
- when will they adjust the loot in the open world to match that of the dungeons?
- when will they fix magic find so that it not only works but also works on chests found in the open world and dragon chests and no longer work in dungeons since it causes such problems there?

Things like that. We really need answers at this point the last time they did an AMA they barely got a question about the loot issues and it’s been a month now we were promised an investigation and haven’t heard anything since. I wonder how long the patience of their players will last.

the forum community of just about every game ever is universally dissatisfied with whatever game it may be. the WoW forums are full of more than just “AMG FROST MAGES ARE SO OP” posts
