Really? About half an hour ago I was thinking of making a thread about how many people I’ve seen in the starter maps since the LS1 finished up.

Go to the Vigil Keep, that might make a difference.

Might be on a lower populated server. But seriously you’re looking in places people aren’t at right now. As said, look at Vigil Keep.

The game is definitely not dead.

Now I don’t know which server you are from, but if you by any chance is on a european server, yes it will be mostly empty everywhere at this time of day, sorry, but people got lives (except for me, I don’t) and gotta be up in the morning.

If you are on a US server, maybe you are just unfortunate to be on a low population one. I know my server is pretty active and while some areas are more or less void of life, others are full of people… and yes as mentioned before, people hang at Vigil Keep because thats where all the services that used to be Lions Arch are right now…. Can’t wait to have it back where it belongs… Vigil Keep is alright, but hate it as the hub.

I understand why it just made more sense there than Priory or Whispers, but still feels biased to me…. sorry for off topic, but needed that off my chest.

Yeah, I found myself moved to overflow there a couple of times recently, at really unexpected overflow times, too. Thought maybe there was some huge event going on or something, but nope, just busy.

The most active places are in WvW/EoTM, Queensdale, Frostgorge and Gendarran Fields right now. Anywhere else would be rather quiet unless you’re on a highly populated server.

guest to blackgate nuff said, go to wvw… thing is each server is rather large and people don’t want to be in 90% of the content of this game because it won’t reward you or give you anything special.

I still feel for pve they should go for an elderscrolls route, remove server distinctions, have multiple (choosable) servers with population counters on each map (Basically what they do with overflow with a bit more control on the player side, they had the list in beta so I know they can do it) and then have a few basic settings for the players to set early on so that the players choose whether they want to auto join a world with more friends/guildies in it, certain language speakers, and low, medium or high population on the map itself.

At the moment you may have lower level maps feel deserted over 18 different servers, but under this system if there is ONE person who would be running around each of these servers they would all end up together in one map and suddenly rather than 1 person being on the low level map there are 18.
The overflow system can handle this.

Wayfarer Foothills are also quite some people normally. Personally i also simply prefer Queensdale and Wayfarer just because of the relative flat map layout and because there are no undeads there.
I think its also why there is a train in Frostgorge .. its mostly the zone layout. Just imagine running a train in Mount Maelstrom or Sparklfly.

not dead over all. It could be your in a low populated server which is easy to fix with a transfer or guesting. Its also notable that unlike other MMO’s the player base is a bit more spread out through zones rather then everyone being clustered around the 80 zones for the endgame content.

“I’m not dead yet!”

There are many things I do not like about this game.

But it definitely is not dead.

What server are you on btw? And what time /zone when you logged on.

I mean a couple of weeks ago, on Blackgate of all places, I logged on several mornings in a row (before noon PST) and there was no one doing the QD champ train. We finally got a zerg of 3 people!

If I hadn’t known that everyone had piled into LA, and the rest were sitting in Gendarran, I might have had the same response. Especially after finding a lot of Divinity’s empty.

depends a lot on the time of day too- last night for instance (actually the whole weekend) DR was packing and there were people hanging out by Shaemoor, Krannak’s.
by hanging out I mean chatting and playing games and goofing off.

This morning 2 of us killed Shadow Behemoth.

moral of the story- the game is not dead, time and server makes a difference

If you’re in EU they’re all in Desolation overflows waiting for tequatl. :P

Which reminds me, before S2 start I really need to go guesting / tequatl hunting.

But on a more interesting note. This does bring up a interesting point of conversation, specifically, more areas. GW2 is has a pretty large game world, so it’s more than reasonable that some areas would have little to no people playing there. Sure people are leveling alts or grinding higher level areas but there is a mid-level zones that tend to be rather empty. One of the things that the living word has been trying to do is get people back to those ‘emptier’ zones, which has for the most part worked. However with so many people asking for new zones, wouldn’t this simply increase the current problem? With more new zones wouldn’t the playerbase perhaps be spread even thinner, or at the very least wouldn’t that middle-ground of empty zones increase?

Or if that’s not interesting, I guess we could just continue stating the obvious, games not dead.

Yea, I remember an interview with Colin and he mentioned that they are aware of the new-zones vs totally empty old zones issue and therefore they are trying to find a new concept that could work.

At the end of the day, GW2 gonna have new zones sooner or later, question is how they plan to do it so people can still be interested of new old ones.

Been leveling up an alt and noticed a significant number of new players in the starter zones on Fort Aspenwood. I was used to doing events by myself, and now all of a sudden there are 3-4 newbs that wander by to help. Very refreshing to see.

Yeah .. in the end the people will mainly be in those zones that gives the most rewarding loot, or has the less annoying enemies i think.

Last weekend i leveled a new character from zero to 72 (with instant lvl 20 scroll and crafting 3 professions to 400) and in the end i only did Queensdale and Wayfarer complete and spent the most of my time in Dredgehaunt Cliffs, since i like those zones simply the most.

I was also shortly in Gendarran fields with lvl 55+ when i got DR on doing events in the Cliffs, and noticed that the Pirates there got even more annoying with all those new conditions they have now.

So with the current system you will never be forced to use new zones if you don’t like them. In other MMOs you MUST do them with every character to level them to max because you need the exp from all the quests and don’t get exp in lower level areas. Here it is simply not needed to do that.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.

Next time you login, park your character at Divinity’s reach or Vigil Keep and just start transferring from server to server until you find a good amount of players. That’s what I’m doing to find a group for CoF. I found a server that has more people on and doing CoF runs whenever I’m on.

Try a different server. Mine apparently doesn’t have a Frostgorge train anymore, but those I’ve guested to are packed.

Also, it may just be a product of the down time between the Epilogue and April’s feature patch. Not really any new stuff with the latest patch so people are more than likely taking a needed break while anxiously awaiting the big changes.

I know its so dead that even the npc are no longer in LA! (I hope this is a joke post or your really out of the loop of things.)

Nope, he’s not dreaming it up! I"m a freelance PS/LS Roleplayer (RPer) & Semi-hardcore WvW / Dungeon / Fractal gamer. I’m seeing the same thing as the OP. I’ve been logging in everyday during different times of the day, and there isn’t any of the usual RP action that floods SAY chat, MAP chat, and ME chat. On the Tarnished Coast server, LA has been dead for the last several days (It was heavily populated for 3 days after the update). Myself and other players thought that RPers were going to take over the city, but I guess they didn’t.

DR is unusually quiet as well. DR is usually flooded with RP chat during the day and evenings (NA Server Time), and the chat is going so fast that I have to click the chat box to read the messages.

Even the Grove is unusually quiet. I’ve only seen 2 Sylvari RPers in there a few days ago, but that was late in the evening. I usually see Sylvari RP during the evening hours (NA Server Time).

To make things really creepy, the TC Queensdale Champ Train hasn’t been seen either.

Luckily we still have the semi-hardcore and hardcore guilds practicing for the new WvW season and PvP tourny (such as AARM, CERN, PINK, and ESP). There’s been tons of action on Eternal Battlegrounds and Edge of the Mists. The TC Eternal Battlegrounds Mumble chat has been busy everyday since the update. There also has been alot of folks from these groups running Dungeons and Fractals to get the ascended and legendary stuff in time for the competitions.
