I haven’t played in a while but it looked desolate when I logged in today. In my opinion, GW2 is the best MMO on the market. WOW has a great storyline and much content but when I hear WOW players say WOW has better game play.. I doubt it. It has mounts and a good story. It is highly overpriced….but the problem is..people have so much time and money invested in WOW that it would be hard for them to change. It would be like divorcing someone you have been married to for years and years..sure it happens but only when the reward is astronomical or the pain great. ..real or imagined. What do you think? Do like the phone companies, offer a reward for switching? But.. I am just talking about diehard WOW players.

So what is this topic about exactly? Guild Wars 2’s population or people’s opinions on World of Warcraft? You sort of changed your train of thought toward the middle of your post.

Where did you go for it to look desolate? Teq just finished so who knows how many Sparkfly maps were tied up with people waiting for up to an hour. I think today’s map event daily was Mt Maelstrom so head there if you want to see more people than you need.

Fire up the Hyperbowl ma, we’re going to town!

Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?

Plenty of people still around. My guess is you went to Lion’s Arch to find people yes?

As a former diehard WoW player, I can certainly attest to it’s recent implosion. I spent the last eight or so years exploring every nook and cranny of Azeroth and it’s associated universe. However, with the latest expansion and the current dev team’s inability to put aside their egos and listen to the numerous complaints of the playerbase, WoW lost 3 million subscribers in just over a three month period (Q1 2015).

With the recent announcement that flying (an extremely popular feature with players) will never be available in the latest expansion or in future expansions, the sub bleeding hasn’t subsided. The uproar on their general discussion forums is incredible yet the devs refuse to listen (they actually attributed the 33% sub loss to “transient” and “cyclical” players).

As to where they are now? I have many friends who are leaving for FFARR and I’ve been pushing for GW2, myself. Why? I think a game world is better served by having an open world (modes of travel not withstanding) wherein a player cannot only go where ever and whenever they choose, but that playstyle is encourged.

As of now, the only diehard WoW players that seem to be left are a bunch of snarly, hateful, bitter trolls.

I’m glad I’m here, instead!

The lack of events has put the game in a stasis/limbo where most will either log in to just do a world boss tour and dailies or will stick almost entirely to farm maps like Orr and Silver Wastes/Dry Top.

There’s probably still a sizable amount of people logging in daily, but you’re not going to find a tremendous amount on at the same time, for a long time.
