Every time I change zones there’s a message about stronghold. No one in the game seems to know where it is. Is there such a thing? How to find it?

enter unranked pvp match—> there it is

have fun

1) Go to Heart of the Mists.
2) Queue up for Unranked.
3) ???
4) Profit!

(It also says this in the top right corner of your screen)

If there’s a stronghold event, I can’t find anyone who knows where it is.

Stronghold is a new PvP mode. You must enter PvP to play the Stronghold map, Champion’s Dusk. Do you know how to enter PvP?

Unranked and Ranked Arenas — characters must be in the Heart of the Mists to join the queue for these arenas

I think what you do is go into the Heart of the Mists (the PvP lobby area) by any of the various means one does that, then you get an option at the top of your screen to join stuff — or else you need to bring up the PvP panel, I’m not sure, I’ve only ever done one match — and you select “Unranked.” That will put you in the Stronghold arena.

When I did the first beta test of Stronghold (that being the one PvP match I’ve done) I was able to join along with two friends, it wasn’t totally random. I don’t recall having a lot of trouble finding my way in, either, it was pretty clear once in the lobby.
