Where is the anti-expansion crowd now?
B-b-but no new level cap!!!!oneone11one!!
Eeht mahst meen no pruhgreshun!
Sadly I’ve already seen people trying to be negative about it.
There is no pleasing these people.
Very tempting to go find the posts of people who were absolutely sure that ANet said no expansion and link them here and then link to the expansion website. :P
ahahahahahahahahahahahaha
I was right. I was right. All the way back to the beginning of last year. Muahahahaha.
insert me dancing around the room in glee
I am so changing my signature to “I TOLD YOU SO!”
hahahahahahahahaha
Many of us told them so. Nothing else really made sense.
got to go off what they actually said, not off what you think could be the case. Any how, good there is an expansion in the works, we ll see what it entails as they release info.
I think ya’ll are missing the point. There never was a big anti-expansion crowd.
There was a big, no-reason-to-expect-an-expansion crowd.
Expansion sounds fun to me, but based on everything they’ve said and done up to this point there was no reason to expect an expansion.
Up until now the idea that they would do an expansion wasn’t any more credible than the idea that they’ll give us mounts.
Months of these guys trying to destroy our hopes and dreams, gloating over the lack of evidence regarding an upcoming expansion.
I think I’ve earned this opportunity to gloat at your miserable defeat.
Gloating is never pretty :P
Yey expansion!
But ehh this thread is really circle-Kitten-erk. I mean common, jeez. :P
I’m sticking by what I said, I’ll believe it when I see it, along with everything else that was said and put into that trailer. I’m watching closely.
Well, the term expansion with regards to anet and guild wars clearly have two seperate meanings:
Gw1 expansion meant new continent ( not content as such ), new professions etc.
Gw2 expansion means no new continent, just content.
So as for the anti expansion crowd I am sure they will be pleased with content, but for guild wars fans over the last 10 years I’m sure the lack of a new continent will be disappointing.
As for me personally, I’m very happy about the content coming our way, some super things to look forward to. But when you look at the world map, maguuma is just a region.
So it feels more like an update to the current game with 1 new region to go to.
I’m an older gamer, so I think if this is anets future for expansions, then I fear I may have left this world long before Cantha appears again.
But well done anet on the new content, looking forward it. But as always, looking forwards to a new continent type of expansion.
Please don’t launch attacks at me for what I am saying, it’s my opinion and I played gw1 since release so of course I’m going to have a different point of view.
All this could have come in feature packs and delivered via living story for free…
Prehaps the QQers of the expansion will now pay for stuff we would have got for free anyways. They wanted an expansion now we all have to pay for stuff we were prob going to get for free.
Chances are they won’t turn up and apologise to those that did believe. As someone else said, they would rather moan than admit. Personally does the community need these type of people in their midst??. Since the community prides itself on being helpful, tolerant and understanding. If anything, they undermine the community by having this type of attitude.
Many of us told them so. Nothing else really made sense.
Honestly I did not expect it to be a traditional MMO expansion for the same reasons you stated that you thought anyone expecting an expansion was just hoping.
If anything, the announcement the way it’s phrased, is specifically telling us there will be no expansion. Anyone who expects one with that wording is just living in hope.
The wording talks about new ways to expand the Guild Wars 2 universe. Expansions aren’t new ways to expand it. That’s old school. To me this implies new things that aren’t being done in the industry at least commonly. Ergo, it won’t be an expansion announcement.
I am glad that we were both wrong.

Wonder how many will eat humble pie and denounce calling you a white knight Vayne.

Sorry mate, but I wasn’t wrong. It’s not a “traditional” expansion. No new tiers of gear and no new level cap. I’ve yet to play a traditional expansion without those things.
Excuse me, what exactly is this thread supposed to discuss? Are we supposed to chime in your gloating that you/we were right? It’s a forum, people are going to have different opinions, get over it.

Eye of the North?
It was a considered a ‘traditional’ expansion, by most standards. It did not contain a level cap raise, or new gear tiers.
Generalizations suck.

Weird, I see, “no expansion,” in your post, not, “no traditional expansion.” I also see, "Ergo, it won’t be an expansion announcement, not, “Ergo, it won’t be a traditional expansion announcement.”
New professions, new progression, new zones, new PvP modes/maps are all things that are being done in the industry, commonly.
Let me make clear, I find the news exciting. A lot of things there to look forward to. I am glad that Anet seems to recognize that they do not have to reinvent the wheel over and over again. MMO staples, with a GW2 spin on them, are not necessarily a bad thing. Kudos to the entire Anet team for what looks to address many player concerns/hopes/desires while keeping to the spirit of the game.

Eye of the North wasn’t part of an MMO. It was a Guild Wars expansion, not an MMO expansion.
I’ve yet to play an MMORPG that didn’t have a higher level in expansions. Now I’m not saying they don’t exist, but certainly,. traditionally, MMO expansions raise level cap and require you to get new gear.

I was talking about MMORPGs. I sort of thought most people would have assumed that. I don’t compare expansions of say Skyrim to MMO expansions.
I was talking about MMORPGs.
I’ll be nice just this once, hold back my snark, and say that just so you know, Vayne, Final Fantasy 11 is in fact an MMO. FF14 wasn’t Square’s first venture into the MMO market.

final fantasy 11 is an MMOrpg, its still around and for like 10 years they didnt raise the cap, or add gear teirs.
rise of the zilart
chains of promathia
treasures of art urgan
wings of the goddess.
4 expansions, no new gear teirs, no new levels.
max level 75.
- 3 maps, one for each modes
- One class
- One new weapon by class
- Guilds hall
- Useless masteries system outside the new map
3 years to devellop that. They really were doing nothing since launch. Such a shame.
I was talking about MMORPGs.

Be as snarky as you like. If FF 11 was in fact an MMO, then it came out with a non-traditional MMO expansion too.
My argument was quite simple. Generally speaking, MMOs come out with new tiers of gear and new level caps. There may be exceptions, which makes them NOT STANDARD. This is the most basic use of the English language there is.
If there are 100 MMO updates and 95 of the come out with higher level cap and/or updated gear, then that’s the standard MMO expansion.
It’s not rocket science.

Still here. I wasn’t anti-expansion, i was anti-ANet not telling us anything and not giving us any hope that things would change.
That being said, this is a very bright day indeed, and i think all GW2 fans, including myself, are very happy and joyous with this news.
Now, time to start throwing money at these people(ANet). They deserve it.
none of the gw1 expansions fall under that description since max level across all was 20 and as well as the fact that the gear didn’t carry stats.
End of the day only 1 thing will matter – balance. It takes 6 months to fix silliness right now.
<— Remember mesmer playing that that? its amusing the amount of hype you can create with a little cgi scripting that doesnt resemble actual gameplay.
Was anyone ever actually anti-expansion? Or were they just following the status quo of ANet making it clear expansions weren’t something they were interested in?
I don’t think anyone was against the idea, as long as they do it right. Which has yet to be seen.

The point was, people like yourself disbelieved and took whatever moment to point out just how foolish like the OP was, for saying that there was an x-pac on the horizon. I think they’ve earned the right to gloat as their faith and belief was rewarded. Whilst humble pie is needed for the dis-believers.

There is no right to gloat. It is never a good thing. People need to get over this garbage instead of wasting time being smug about who was wrong about what. It is nether constructive nor a good thing for the community.

Sue me. It’s almost 6 am in Australia. I’ve been up all night. If I get a word wrong in a post against people who clearly are only trying to argue, that’s fine. I don’t really care.
The substance of what I said, if you look at my original quote doesn’t change the fact that I was trying to keep the hype low by what I posted.
I’ve always knew and always said there were people working on big projects in the background on the type of stuff you’d find in an expansion. I’ve said it probably dozens of times.
I didn’t believe that we’d get a traditional expansion and I don’t consider this expansion traditional.
And I’m going to bed, because even these forums can’t ruin my mood tonight.

miserable defeat? boy, i never cared about an expansion, but i’ve never denied there was one in the works, but you’ve got issues.
Besides, when you see that the expansion is nothing more than a living story a bit beefed up, then the other guys are going to come laughing at you.
Your ‘arguement’ is only to hide your first post here, ‘yeah we told them so didn’t we?’ after somebody pointed out how dishonest of a statement that is and called you out on it. Kudos to the convoluted series of contrived, back-peddling posts though. :/
There is no right to gloat. It is never a good thing. People need to get over this garbage instead of wasting time being smug about who was wrong about what. It is nether constructive nor a good thing for the community.
So if A-net announced anything else besides an x-pac, what do you think it would led to. The exact opposite; threads of “where are the ones that said there was an x-pac”. You think they won’t be gloating. Neither is people who whine, complain and QQ. But yet they are a part of the community.
When is supposed to be the release date for HoT?

And I’d tell them the same exact thing. "The other “side” would do it." is not a good reason to do it yourself, just an excuse for poor behavior.
Months of these guys trying to destroy our hopes and dreams, gloating over the lack of evidence regarding an upcoming expansion.
I think I’ve earned this opportunity to gloat at your miserable defeat.
why, did you personally design or program the expansion? If that is something for you to gloat about, you really need to get a life.

Besides, when you see that the expansion is nothing more than a living story a bit beefed up, then the other guys are going to come laughing at you.
Sounds like your the one with the issues. If you were on the fence, how does that apply to you?. Unless you were the naysayers. And by the way, most x-pac are like LS – things that continue with the story. And ‘abit beefed up’, wow that is an understatement. This confirms you have an issue – of being proven wrong. But instead of admiting and eating humble pie. You refuse and say ‘ha this is just another LS’.
Sue me. It’s almost 6 am in Australia. I’ve been up all night.
Then maybe you shouldn’t be posting since you can’t get your kitten right.
I’ve seen you make this claim before when you get caught on stuff you’ve said. It’s not an excuse. If you’re so tired you can’t get your stuff right, then stop pulling all nighters while also posting. To quote Samuel L. Jackson: Go the kitten to sleep.
If I get a word wrong in a post against people who clearly are only trying to argue, that’s fine. I don’t really care.
Only arguing because you started it. All you had to do when I told you FF11 was an MMO was type: “Oh, I didn’t realize FF11 was an MMO.”
I made it clear, I was just trying to inform you that FF11 was an MMO, because your post comparing its expansions to Skyrim’s DLC made it perfectly clear you thought it was another single player Final Fantasy game, which is fair because Square has made so few MMOs. That’s why I started off saying I wasn’t going to snark you. You could have just taken the information and left it at that.
The substance of what I said, if you look at my original quote doesn’t change the fact that I was trying to keep the hype low by what I posted.
And now you’re in a thread about gloating about being right, saying “It was so obvious that an expansion was coming”, that the “signs were always there”.
I’ve always knew and always said there were people working on big projects in the background on the type of stuff you’d find in an expansion. I’ve said it probably dozens of times.
You didn’t know, you assumed. Just as the other side assumed nothing was coming. The only difference is how data was interpreted. You took ANet at their word that big things were coming, interpreting from what they said, etc. Others interpreted based on how content was being released and things like the trait thread, etc.
miserable defeat? boy, i never cared about an expansion, but i’ve never denied there was one in the works, but you’ve got issues.

I dont need to admit anything. Like i said, i never denied there was an expansion on the works. I never cared for an expansion, though, because I just seriously doubt the developers who have made this game how it is now can do something that would justify an expansion (worth spending money on) pvp wise, the new mode they announced is a shift towards pve, not an improvement of what we already have. Pve wise, they havent announced any dungeon or raid. Give a gs to my necro? How cool! Will the gs make the flesh golem attack the enemies and not just watch me die?
Oh, but i do have issues, against people talking about iserable defeats and laughing on other people’ s faces because they were wrong. Well, if that’ s all the satisfaction life can give you…..
But… but… Living Story can give us an expansion worth of content for free! Traditional expansions are not good because you play them and exhaust the content in a week so you don’t have anything else to do!
- 3 maps, one for each modes

- Guilds hall
- Useless masteries system outside the new map3 years to devellop that. They really were doing nothing since launch. Such a shame.
They didnt say 3 maps, they said 3 biomes. in Gw2 currently we have like 5 maps per biome
they also didnt say the new masteries are only usuable in the new maps, the lore ones probably yes but glinding can be useful everywhere.
there are also new skills, the specializations, precursor crafting, new WvW map with new mechanics, New PvP mode.
And we just know the overview, we need to know the details before we can judge something like this.
There absolutely was a pretty big anti-expansion crowd on this forum. It was mostly people who convinced themselves that the LS was the greatest thing ever made, and were completely against paying for an expansion for whatever reason.
Many of us told them so. Nothing else really made sense.
Honestly I did not expect it to be a traditional MMO expansion for the same reasons you stated that you thought anyone expecting an expansion was just hoping.

That backtracking
You have just have to pretend that GW2 is the kind of game that would ever even have that in the first place and then it all makes sense. A lvl cap increase in a game that hands out lvlup books and xp boosters like candy? Genius!
But… but… Living Story can give us an expansion worth of content for free! Traditional expansions are not good because you play them and exhaust the content in a week so you don’t have anything else to do!
