Where is the anti-expansion crowd now?
I didn’t think it was going to be an expansion but more of a DLC but HoT IS an expansion so I was wrong but regardless is doesn’t matter.
“there will be no expansion, only living story bs”
announcement of expansion
“grmpf, but not a real expansion because of…..stuff”
its so pathetic
I’m still curious what’ll happen to Living Story now. I don’t think they’ll retire the idea.
Maybe they’ll be using it to introduce Xpacs now, like how S2 was essentially the “intro” of HoT.

I think its probably going to happen this way.
- 3 maps, one for each modes
- One class
- One new weapon by class
- Guilds hall
- Useless masteries system outside the new map3 years to devellop that. They really were doing nothing since launch. Such a shame.
They didnt say 3 maps, they said 3 biomes. in Gw2 currently we have like 5 maps per biome
they also didnt say the new masteries are only usuable in the new maps, the lore ones probably yes but glinding can be useful everywhere.
there are also new skills, the specializations, precursor crafting, new WvW map with new mechanics, New PvP mode.
And we just know the overview, we need to know the details before we can judge something like this.
I agree with Simzani and some with you. If player base have to wait 2 years-3 years for expansion; it should have more. 2 years-3 years wait expansion should be more. I read guild war 1 expansion; Eye of North and it had more than guild wars 2 expansion in 2 years. See> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guild_Wars:_Eye_of_the_North

This thread got really hostile. Everyone needs to just relax. Enjoy the new things that are coming.
To be fair, we have no idea what the “Mastery System” is nor do we know how it could be used to further allow for horizontal progression. Same for Specializations.
Also, most, and I do mean MOST, of the GWEN armor was reskins of existing meshes that were jumbled up. They had already nearly killed the game with the amount of skills in it by Nightfall, and we’ll never know how much content was simply recycled from “Utopia”, another stand alone game, as there’s never been an official word on how far into development that was before they scrapped it.
I’ll never hold back criticism where due, but we really don’t know nearly enough about what’s coming to throw our arms in the air and shout “s’not enough!!!”
Especially when they haven’t even listed how much this will all cost yet.

Got? The very first post is about as hostile as is apparently allowed in these forums.
I must admit, I kind of surprised they’re calling this an expansion given some of the circumstances because, really, it reads like a glorified, if somewhat daunting, Living Story update.
Let me explain.
We get one new zone, that has three levels, something akin to Silverwastes already. New content, new achievements, and new mobs. They revamped the upper tier leveling systems, gave a new profession, and put in guild halls with some minor PvP and WvW changes.
And they’re calling that an expansion?
Now, before you jump all over me, think about this: Other than the new class and upper ‘mastery’ level, you’ve seen everything I mentioned in prior patches and updates through Living Story.
I get the distinct feeling they’re calling it an ‘expansion’ as opposed to a huge, Living Story update, to prevent the flames and pitchforks that would otherwise happen.
Again, not to be negative Nancy, but I saying, “I told you so,” over a glorified Living Story patch isn’t something to be proud of or gloat about.
It’s actually something a lot of people predicted.

Let them have their fun, this is still a “tiny expansion” but an expansion none the less at least its on the right direction but it has taken too long and i doubt majority of the vets that have left will come back. I know many GW vets felt betrayed and now anet wants that group back from the looks of it.
Ill probably play it when its out and its on sale but i wont be hyping or telling my friends to get it like at the release of GW2, i don’t want to get burned again and make my friends play a game they wont enjoy again.
Wonder how much content they will also add to the gemshop taking resources from the actual expansion.

^ I pretty much agree with this right here. Don’t get me wrong, I’m really stoked about all the new features, especially the profession specialization! But I still can’t help but say… “wait, that’s it?”
Now I know they haven’t covered everything in detail, but I think they pretty much summarized what we are getting, which is cool, but hopefully they won’t charge as much as a new game for this expansion. I’m still disappointed that we didn’t get a new race—Tengu—but I’m still totally on-board for this expansion pack.
I don’t want to sound ungrateful, so I thank Anet tremendously for the work they put into this. My Tengu disappointment aside (which, I know, I only have myself to blame), I’m eagerly anticipating the release of this expansion pack, and hope there’s much, much more content yet to be announced!
Dunno why, but I have the feeling that the anti-expansion crowd is going to convert in the this-is-no-real-expansion crowd.

Unfortunately there’s one thing you’re blithely sailing past. The fact they only had an hour to cover everything they did. kitten, even I know there’s obviously more than one zone for pve, if the trailer was anything to go by. If I remember correctly, they did say they were opening up the remainder of maguuma. That’s more or less the entirety of the map west of DR. They also gave us more vertical progression in the game in such a way that there’s no total gear re-grind (outside of drastic reformations from specializations). And that’s forgetting the new borderlands map too.
Frankly I’m disappointed people forget, or dont want to realize, that the PAX announcement was basically a synopsis of what’s coming. I doubt they could go over everything being added even if they reserved the entire day.
Excuse me, what exactly is this thread supposed to discuss? Are we supposed to chime in your gloating that you/we were right? It’s a forum, people are going to have different opinions, get over it.
A thread about people saying “ner ner” to people who were complaining about something or another.
No idea. Haha.
I doubt they could go over everything being added even if they reserved the entire day.
lulwut? It’s an expansion pack, not an entirely new game.
This is the fuel that powers the hype train. May it ever have no breaks…

If that’s the case, and they open a huge amount of zones, i.e. the entire map north of Maguuma Wastes, I’ll be more than happy to scream my excitement.
On that note, you don’t find it odd, that within that hour, they only mentioned one map zone? Wouldn’t it have made more sense to say, oh I don’t know, “And we’re adding thirty new maps for the players to explore!” for example?
Previous trailers made Silverwastes look massive, but we know better now.
Still, we’ll see as they release more and more information.

^ There’ll be more than one map. “Explore new open world jungle mapS.”
Source: https://heartofthorns.guildwars2.com/en and the stream?
Why would they spoil everything and let the hype die down?
They’ll be releasing info about the new features and probably other new exciting stuff in the coming weeks. They want the hype train to keep riding, I’d guess. Marketing 101.
Bring back: ‘Gamer’ title + MAT’s!

Oh interesting. Maps. Thank you.

Uh… Between the original Guild Wars and Eye of the North, ArenaNet released two entire chapters, stand-alone games that had more or less 300 skills each, with than 40 new maps in each chapter, 2 new professions per chapter, and so on.
The current rate of content production is a joke. That, without even considering how likely it is that the incoming expansion may as well be a rushed piece of trash.
I must admit, I kind of surprised they’re calling this an expansion given some of the circumstances because, really, it reads like a glorified, if somewhat daunting, Living Story update.

Ardenwolfe, If I recall correctly you’ve spent days telling people on this forum that there wouldn’t be an expansion and that the mere thought of we having one was delusional.
Now that you have been proven utterly wrong, you try to make it look like it’s no big deal in what it seems like yet another attempt to kitten on everyone else’s bonfire. Perhaps you cannot bear seeing others happy about the game, and would prefer to see their enthusiasm shattered instead. Schadenfreude much?
(edited by anabasis.7346)
Anabasis, I hesitate to respond to you, given your personal attacks and erroneous jabs, but allow me to answer your questions.
Yes, I did spend time posting there would be no expansion given that the developers themselves said they had no plans for an expansion in the near future. Again, the last time they stated this was over a year ago this January.
I was wrong. Let me repeat that: I was wrong. Don’t know why you, and some others, think this is a hard thing to admit, but reasonable people don’t argue when a theory is proven otherwise. Am I suppose to lash out or be embarrassed because the developers went in the opposite direction? I even quoted them by saying an expansion was in the future. But they also said, “Not anytime soon.”
I’m more than thrilled with the announcement. Sorry you feel my hesitation about the amount of content is questionable, but that’s just my humble opinion. And again my apologies that you think I’m trying to ‘kitten’ on everyone else’s bonfire.
But the mere fact you think I cannot bear ‘seeing other happy about the game’ or that I would ‘prefer to see their enthusiasm shattered’ is pretty left field. Guild Wars 2 is, by far, my favorite MMO to date.
I’m just as excited to see some of the changes. Especially with the ranger mastery. So your conclusions, about me, are completely wrong.
That said, while I’m flattered you and a few others remember my postings, I don’t think I’m the actually topic of discussion.
Please feel free to discuss the topic instead, thank you.
