Where's the list of guilds?

This is embarrassing, but I’ve been playing this game since launch, and after taking a hiatus, the guilds I was a member of are pretty much gone.

Finding a new guild has been difficult. I don’t even know what guilds are out there except for when someone advertises over chat that they’re recruiting, and even then you don’t know anything about them except for what they tell you.

For a game that supposedly has a huge focus on guilds, where are the tools? I can’t find an actual list (though a few websites have some “possibly up-to-date” cross sections of a few guilds). Where can I see how different guilds stack up compared to one another? Their achievements and so forth?

Any advice is appreciated!

You can try the ‘Looking For….’ sub-forum here.

I don’t know about any sites that all/most/many Guilds might use to be compared.

Good luck.

Whilst having an in game guild tool (like the LFG) would be good (and I’d love for them to do that) unfortunately there isn’t one at the moment.

They do offer the Looking For… section of the forums and they’ve just started a recruitment drive/initiative within that (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/lookingfor/Guilds-Activate-Recruit-Mode/first#post5443418) that may help you find something.

Yup ^

The other thing is to stand in LA and ask if any guilds are recruiting and be specific about what you want from the guild… for example “Returning player looking for medium-large PvX guild (all upgrades unlocked, weekly GMs, TS and website preferable)”.

You’ll probably get a whisper from a few people, where you can then further ask about the qualities of their guild. If you think it sounds good, try it out for a week or two and see how it goes. There’s nothing stopping you from trying the process again if you’re not perfectly happy.

There aren’t really many “achievements” for guilds, apart from what they have infrastructure-wise or activity-wise. I think it’d probably be best if you ask the recruiter what they think the biggest success of the guild has been and that will be a pretty good indicator. If they go “uuuh… dunno?” then it’s probably not what you’re looking for. If it’s “we have commanders that regularly run in WvW” or “we organise and command successful TT events” then it might be closer to what you want?

This might be bad timing. A lot of guilds are holding off on active recruiting while there is the initial rush of F2P players.

Yes and no.

I wouldn’t let this put you off, recruiting guilds will have strategies to avoid recruiting F2P players if they want to.

A guild I used to be a part of would have a general rule of thumb to not invite people with very low AP (apart from friends), often because these people would become inactive and not return, and then the guild would need to be cleaned out of the inactives pretty frequently.

Obviously this would help cut out quite a few of the F2P players looking for a guild.

I don’t see the problem too much with recruiting F2P guys though… they can still be an active part of the guild, and being in a nice community might mean they’ll be more likely stay and buy the game as well.

And of course, it depends on the kind of guild. Of course, an all welcome or helpful kind of guild wouldn’t be so worried about getting a load of new players, who will need a bit of training here and there. More specialist guilds might be different though, who will only be looking for players who know their stuff (but then, if you took a long break, you may not be as experienced as you once were).
