Very frustrated. I bought gems last night to get the black wings backpack/glider combo, and then realized that I don’t have any transmutation charges remaining So I have an item bought with gems that I can’t use right now (unless I’m misunderstanding how to apply these).

Where can I get a transmutation charge in game? I’d rather not spend rl money just to buy some more.

Do exploration of the starter cities (DR, Holebrak, Rata Sum, etc). They reward transmutation charges when you complete their exploration. Make an alt just to do that, if you need to.

The glider can be applied for free using the menu on the Hero panel.

The wings, if I remember correctly, should appear in your inventory as an item which you can double click to apply to your back item for free. This will only work once (and only on 1 character) but it does allow you to use them for free.

It’s only after that you’ll need transmutation charges. This are awarded for map completion of any city and sometimes other maps I think, are one of the daily login rewards and can be purchased in the gem store (150 gems for 5) if you really can’t find an alternative.

I “farm” them in Rata Sum. I create an Asura Warrior (#2 skill is a leap which helps a bit), I get one charge in about 8 minutes by completing Rata Sum, delete character and do it again. XD

The PvP and WvW reward tracks also provides a fairly large amount of them.

No, you still get a small amount of progression in your PvP reward track if you lose. More if you win.

Gem bought skins tend to have one transmutation baked in. The glider is skin costs nothing to change, just the backpack.

You get 3 charges a cycle of login rewards, you also get them from map completion of the cities. Lastly they are relatively cheap from the gem shop.
