I’m playing an Elementalist and I’m interested in doing WvW and PvE once I hit lvl 80. sPvP as well but I assume that doesn’t matter since none of your gear applies.

I just maxed out Cooking and I still have my Item Booster running so I figured I’d max out a second crafting skill while it’s still running.

I have enough gold to max out either Artificing or Jewelcrafting but I’m not really sure which would make more sense as an Elementalist with my goals at lvl 80.

If anyone can tell me which of those skills would be more practical to take as an Ele please let me know why. I also enjoy D/D more than Staff but I’m going to be using whatever weapons work best at 80 regardless.

Thanks

I would make jeweller, but on a nother character since with 80 you get no more
level, your alt however will get 7 level ups for crafting to 400.

Jeweller because every class uses the same jewlery.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

Artificer. You can refine luck to save your hand from 100’s of clicks, make potions if you need and also start making the timegated mithrillium/globs of elder spirit to prepare for HoT release and all the new goodies (precursor crafting and who knows what else) that may use spiritwood or deldrimor ingots. Plus if you ever do decide to make an ascended staff, scepter, focus or trident, you’ll be set. Ascended jewelry is relatively easily obtained and outclasses whatever you could make on a jeweler.

Artificer. Refining luck is super convenient, and jewelcrafting is of limited usefulness, simply because you can get ascended trinkets from laurels or fractals without having to craft them.

You might already have this, but GW2crafts has a great breakdown of how much each discipline costs:

If you prefer dagger to staff, you might choose weaponsmith. If you’re just gearing up with rares/exotics, you can probably buy whatever you want on the trading post at just a small markup over crafting it yourself, but ascended you probably need to craft.

That said, if you’re just now hitting 80 and getting into crafting, you don’t really need to worry about ascended gear. That’s a long-term goal.

Thanks for the responses. I should have clarified that I’m lvl 61 right now. I’ll probably take Artificing on this character (Elementalist) since I could make an Ascended Staff if they end up being the best choice for HoT PvE content.

Weaponsmithing costs like 2x more so I’m going to hold off on that for now. I’m assuming getting gold at 80 is a lot easier too so I’m not too worried about that.

giving all the trades you can take in this game. what i did is i took Jeweller and cheff . for the fact . all your other toon,s . will need both of these class the most first . and then if you make another toon suggestion mind you . take leather worker and tailor as that is what i did . got to say it worked out very well .

You’ll want tailoring for ascended armor and either weapon smith or artificing depending on whether or not you go staff or dagger.

Oh! In that case, you can take whatever you want, really.

Personally, I didn’t start crafting until my second character, at which point I had enough coin and materials saved up to craft efficiently. I found while leveling that it was just easier to gear up with whatever dropped, instead of crafting something new every 5-10 levels. To each their own, though!
