According to every subforum their particular profession is the worst off in the game :/

Except Guardian.

On the Guardian forums I constantly see Guard players saying something along the lines of, “On the whole, Guardian is a very stable profession. I’d like ANet to fix X, Y and maybe tweak Z, but we’re very balanced at the moment.”

Give me time, because I have not rolled a Guardian yet. Once I do, I can assure you I will dedicate myself to flooding the Guardian forums with QQ, conspiracy theories and ridiculously over-powered suggestions for skill changes.

After all, it’s essential that we keep the proper class balance, not just in-game, but on these forums as well. ;-)

Colin Johanson to Eurogamer: "Everyone, including casual gamers,
by level 80 should have the best statistical loot in the game.
We want everyone on an equal power base.”

Ele. No other class even comes close to the amount and severity of the nerfs Ele has gotten since launch and even before.

D/D builds have been systematically destroyed from the beginning until now.

As a Ranger who leveled an ele up to level 80 and played through several difficult dungeons with him, and can compare both of the classes, I can say with certainty that you don’t know the MEANING of the word nerf.

Wait, you mean the mode that less than 5% of the playerbase plays, the one most of us don’t care about? The one that’s problems pale in comparison when it comes to problems for classes in endgame PvE?

repeat with me:
PvP is a minor aspect of the game…and is the least played.

If you’re going to make a claim like that, I’m gonna need references to reliable numbers. Cause I don’t see GW2 being broadcast alongside league of legends or WoW, and therefore creating publicity, for the PvE. In fact, all evidence seems to point to PvE being the secondary aspect of the game.

Except what are the majority of the complaints about in every class thread about? Either WvW or PvE. RARELY do you see complaints about sPvP, and the complaints about sPvP are usually brushed off as unimportant, mostly because sPvP is always node capture, which is bland, boring, and not much in the way of testing skill.

I always find it funny when a PvPer says PvE is easymode when reading the PvP forums its pretty easy to see that that fanbase just wants the game to just be a bunch of different looking dudes auto attacking with no reason to dodge.

except the fact that not even 5% of playebase plays pvp maybe 1% i should n t even discuss it.

PvP is advertised because they want to launch a dead mode….

GW2 balance:
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

There are plenty of players with more experience, but I play a Guardian, Ranger, Warrior, Thief, and Mesmer at level 80, so I have an opinion.

Ranger has the deepest and widest variety of issue imho… I’ll tell you why I think this happened.

During beta and when the game first launched, there was a small fraction of the experience with the game as there currently is. Dungeons for example were regarded as incredibly hard to the point were this forum was flooded with complaints about how hard they were. ANet stuck to their guns and said that feedback from their beta-testers told them if anything the dungeons would need to be very slightly harder, and certainly not easier.

2 Rangers with their pets could duo some dungeon content because two pets could tank, and any tanking of any content was perceived as inherently broken, and so “fixes” were applied… Today there are a wide range of videos showing most classes soloing dungeon content… This issue of Rangers duo-ing content was even cited recently as an issue for Rangers, as apparently people soloing content is being ignored by ANet.

The issue was while nobody had any experience with the game, Rangers had an advantage in PvE because of pets.

On top of this, in the early betas nobody did any melee because range for far safer and offered no disadvantage. Then all range damage was nerfed across the board and this impacted Rangers in a way that was never recovered from.

In PvP, you have a similar situation of nobody having any experience with their class… Some classes that went on to be strong in PvP were initially screamed as being completely broke. Mesmers and Elementalists were perfect examples. Nobody knew what you were meant to do with a Mesmer in either PvE or PvP. The forums were filled with “what’s the point of illusions they can’t tank for kitten”. Elementalist were commonly believe to be broken in all ways as the community had no notion of synergy of play and builds.

Rangers at a first glance are all about range if you think no deeper. The first Rangers had an idea of what they were meant to be doing, and as it happens when you have a whole bunch of people no sure what they’re doing in PvP, the guys with the bows and pets mop the floor with everybody else… This was balanced so that Rangers didn’t own everything they saw… Then the community figured out how to play, and the initial advantage range focused classes had was removed.

Rangers are a broken class because the basis of their design decisions are no longer valid in the current game. With every other class I play balance is an issue of numbers. With Rangers, the class does not integrate well into the game.

Two friends of mine (twins funnily enough) bought their two copies of gw2 today and asked me my opinions on first profession choice, even though they’d been watching youtube videos about the pros and cons.

They BOTH wanted to play Ranger because that’s all they’ve ever played in any MMO, and I felt disheartened having to tell them that it’s the most broken and least-dev-supported profession in the game. Sure enough they chose guardian and elementalist.

I would have to agree ranger.

WvW/sPvP wise I find eng to be fun and rewarding… you do need to work a bit more for it though. I LOVE my WvW roaming eng. By far the most fun I’ve had on any class.

PvE… still all the work, but far less reward for being flexible.

^ this is as accurate as it gets. Mesmer, ele, ranger, thief, necro, warrior, guardian, engineers. All classes has been pretty much nerf since beta. A few build are still viable though to some but are limited. But for this thread, i believe ranger got kitten on pretty hard by anet. Although, it is being noticed again by the devs it might get some balancing later on.

Carnagh is on spot though, when the game was released no one knew how to play their class and as a range class who excels in DPS and range, ranger has been label as OP, got tweaked and reworked. Now that you look back at rangers, and actually play them they are not that OP. Same with thieves, mesmers, elementalists, et ol classes. Yes I have played them all. Its just a matter of learning for each of these classes.

Success is my only option, failure is not.

On the otherhand, all I ever see are LF Mesmer/Warrior/Guardian
