So I tried out the free version of the game and my laptop seems to run it well enough, so I purchased the full game.

I’m not sure which world to select though. On my free account I selected ring of fire but I’m not sure that was the best decision. It said I could have one free transfer when I upgraded, so I’m deciding which world to choose.

I was thinking of selecting a world with a high population, but should I choose high or very high? I want there to be enough people to make the world feel alive, but I don’t want to run into server problems due to an overload of people.

I don’t really know much about world vs world, just that its a game mode with lots of people. To be honest, I’m more of a PvE kind of guy so I’m not too bothered about WvW leaderboards. Should I pick a highly ranked WVW anyway?

So I have narrowed the choices down a little but I’m still not sure what world to choose. Any ideas or recommendations?

The PVE world is all grouped together now in the megaserver so it doesn’t matter what server you pick.
However for WvW it does matter, you may not be too interested in WvW at teh moment but later on in the game you may be so maybe wise idea not to pick one of the low tier servers.

Server only matters for WvW. It has no bearing on PvE anymore.

Choose the highest population server you can get into.

If you’ve made any friends since getting the free version, I’d go with the one that they’re on. But even that doesn’t matter, cause you can just join their map to do things in PvE

The ONLY reason world selection matters these days is for WvW – if you’d like to try it out at some point, I’d go for a server that’s isn’t quite at the top, nor the bottom of the rankings.

Personally I like Crystal Desert, because we’re not near the bottom, but we’re also not at the top, and when I do feel like WvWing… I’m not the only one on the map playing

Geigi (Queen of the Dredge) – Mesmer
[HOPE] – Hope Remains, Crystal Desert

It won’t let me change worlds for free. It said I would get a free transfer, but maybe it hasn’t come through yet since I purchased the game a few hours ago?

Other aspects of my paid account seem to be working, so that’s good.

If it lets me transfer, I think I’ll go with abbadons mouth. Its exactly mid table so if I do want to try WVW I’m not on a bad side, while at the same time not being competitive at the top. It also has a very high population so I’ll see people.

Edit – I read somewhere that if you delete everything, you can transfer for free. I’m not really bothered about my lvl8 charr, so if it still doesn’t allow me within the next few days, I could try that.

You can only transfer once per week, whether you pay for it or delete all characters. If you started playing less than a week ago, that may be the reason. If not, contact support.
