Unlike WoW which is subscription based, GW2 is pay per game with no sub fees.
And you have already bought the game so why the kitten Arenanet cares if you threaten to quit ??..LOL

Those who don’t play are probably less likely to buy gems. Just saying.

Individually, they don’t care. When looking at the big picture however, they care a lot. The most important thing in an MMO is an active player base.

No players no gems
No players no expansions bought
No players dead game

They care.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

1. Multiple people can ask for a refund.
2. Every single person that quit is one less future customer.

They care because to keep their company running they need more than just a one-time first-player box purchase. They need repeat players to keep logging on and buying items from their gem store. They need players to keep logging on and buy their expansions.

Also, word of mouth. GW2 is three years old now, and it isn’t that heavily advertised or visible in stores. A lot of people are brought in through friends, meaning that each player that leaves (or gets frustrated enough to stop recommending the game) is potentially several lost sales.

Because who wants to start playing a dead game?
players leaving is likely to make bad reviews too.

I still think the majority of players went from gw1 to gw2. gw1 community had a name back in the days for being a very mature audience though we where young. The game itself had a name for offering most beautiful graphics for an onlinegame, also the topic was pretty mature and true to itself. You had no pink glittering asuras jumping around or weapons which look like some candy handhelds from funfairs. or some tiny npc girls inside a half baked story jiggling around finding their kitten girly loveboat… Its just extreme unbelieveable what junk they made out of the lore. I think its ok that companies dont care for gender, sexual habits, etc when hiring staff but heres a kitten majority of players to serve. Its just unbelieveable how much transgender and homosexual influence is put into an electronic entertainment product aimed at families and casual players. When arenanet had gw2 in developement they already knew what they would be about to make out of the once mature medieval world. Before gw1 went into its endstage they already tested the gemstore model and started offering stuff via store. In the future we will see more expansions i think, but i will rather try to get them for some 20 bucks via china website than to pay full price. Most players have come a little in the years now. We dont have that much time anymore like we had 10 years ago. We have now daily real life stuff to do and to take care of.

Only thing which would be interesting for me is how many total accounts there are and how many of them have a gw1 account attached.

No one at arenanet cares if anyone leaves. Most gemstore items are of the same 3d model and just carry different textures or colors. I bet the profit margin on a single item is extremely high, just have a look at the annual report.

let me entertain you

Walking Dead has/had openly gay characters in prominent roles. Legend of Korra, a Nickelodeon cartoon has a lesbian protagonist. It’s a new age, homosexuality is becoming more mainstream and no longer taboo. Even to younger audiences. I didn’t play GW1 but I can see how the silliness in GW2 might clash with a super dark serious prequel. I think there are still a decent amount of serious moments in GW2 though. IMO a great story has both light hearted and serious moments (not that GW2 story is great or anything though lol). Despite the forums, GW2 was (and I hope still is) considered to have one of the friendliest and most welcoming online communities. I would hope that still counts us as “mature”.

Really? No candy cane weapons? No goofiness?

One of the candy cane weapons.

Picture I took using my camera on my iPad. People in Lions arch running around as Ice Golems.

Are you sure you played gw1?

At least back then Anet offered decent weapons and armor in the game and put the costumes and optional unlocks in the store, now its all in the gem store.

What?

I mean: if you complained about homosexuality not fitting lore-wise due to being harrassed in a true dark-ages setting, I would agree,

But you actually just said it wouldnt fit for a game aimed at ‘families’. srsly…what?

In general I love the way gw2 is going against racial and sexual stereotypes. Ofc an asura vigil warrior looks a little ridiculous, but it is so much better than having only the ‘strong and manly’ becoming frontliners and making the ‘feminin and weak’ healers, rangers or thieves. And the best thing about it: they dont make a big deal of it. Its just the way it is.

I partially agree about all the glitter and ‘happy go lucky’ stuff, I prefer my game worlds to be a little more sinister (wh) but based on the design of characters I see running around most people seem to like it.
They should remove stuff like Quip tho, but thats another topic.

Finally the lore itself is pretty cool, especially the parts that dont include destinies edge. LS2 and onward was extremely awesome work and I love the character design.

Last but not least @op: Nobody cares. At all. The few people that quit out of protest and not for a good reason dont matter for sales. They come to the forums and make a big deal out of it and act it out in order to get attention for their first world problems.
You also have to realize that most of them only quit ‘temporarely’. I can kinda understand that. If you are unhappy with a game and the content you play is not enjoyable to you, you quit and return after it has changed.
Those who quit for good in order to ‘punish anet’ shalt not be taken serious.

Ok so people bought HoT and then quit. Which means no cash shop items being bought, less players in general resulting in dead read making it a less fun social game (essential in an mmo) which causes people to go to a fuller game, people don’t buy Te expansion because they can play original for free and do not forget the negative reviews and multiple forum posts saying the game is not great anymore.

They may buy the expansion and get the quick cash but they lose out on a long term spender when they need the money later down the road.

And if it took all the HoT sales to pay for the next expansion and even 1/5 of your audience quits then they can not afford to make a better expansion next time without upping cash shop prices and causing more people to stop buying cash shop items because they think it costa too much.

Look at gliders, used to be 400 gems with exceptions on packs and now they have gone up 100.
