I have been playing for 2+ years, with thousands of hours in game play time. All (8) classes at level 80. Sometimes I get bored and like starting a new character. (Because it is fun to reminisce about the times we were leveling up. The challenge of having to do things a new.)
Please give us a switch to toggle these changes OFF. (Especially when we clearly have all the classes to level 80 already.)
After 2+ years, with all (8) classes level 80 already. Is Anet telling me:
“I see you are level 1. You clearly do not know how to play this game. Let me guide you through every agonizing step you have already learned over the past 2 years, and then force you to not be able to disable these changes? Deal with it, or don’t bother making a new character. Thanks.”
Is that what is happening here? Are you trying to force older players to simply quit GW2 and make room for the new players only?
Does it matter that we’ve played and supported this game for 2+ years already?
Or is this your subtle way of telling us, to never ever, ever, dare to make a new character or we will be punished for knowing how to play this game already.*
Did we do something wrong? Are you punishing us?
Please allow the new changes to be toggled off for accounts with 1-2 years + or 1,000-5,000+ hours or all (8) classes level 80 already.
Please, please. Don’t punish us for being veteran players who have stuck by the game for so long.
A million times this. I have 16 fully geared lvl 80 characters (what? I like making alts) and have been playing since the 3-day headstart. I have proven that I know what I am doing and do not need this handholding and stupid level gating to keep me down.
This shouldn’t be forced on us. For veteran players this is outright insulting.

Not only will I not be making another alt (I am a new player of around 4 months who was planning on giving every profession a try and only got to warrior and ranger before this disaster), I will not be playing this game anymore. If this is how they intend to attract and keep new players, then I hate to see what they have in store, if anything, for older players. This game is currently going down a very bad path. As a longtime player of RuneScape, this is like watching what went wrong with RuneScape happen all over again. That is, the developers paid no attention to the players’ feedback and instead made the changes THEY wanted to see instead of what the players wanted. Sorry to burst your bubble Anet, but the players are what keep your game alive, not you. If the players don’t like it, it doesn’t matter if you like it because you won’t be able to afford to keep working on it. It doesn’t sound very nice, but it’s true. You’re trying to sell a product here.
Who in their right mind would ever buy a character expansion slot now?
Unless this changes, I will never purchase another character slot again. (I currently have 19 character slots, and was considering buying more due to my love of playing Alts and having mules.)
To quote Game of Thrones.
What do we say about buying more character slots with the current changes?
It’s really bizarre for me to not be on the side of hating this as I’ve been pretty unhappy with ANet for a while now (and I’m very unhappy about the new money grind collections, especially regarding the items I’ve already earned and sold weeks or months ago.) But I’m actually fine with the leveling changes for the most part. So yeah, I’ll alt.
the money isnt in alts.
the money is in the new players.
Way to kitten on their own playerbase.
Why focus on the people who actually play the game and invest in the game while you can focus on people who haven’t even played the game yet amirite?

Me and my wife just bought 3 character expansion slots… I would say what a waste of money, but I really don’t want a refund, I want this fixed ASAP!!!
This is sickening, it truly is… This is the worst patch changes since me and my wife started playing the game 8 months ago… I’m afraid you have killed those 3 alt experiences for me and my wife… really sad day indeed.

I was planning on buying 3 more slots as well, but I was also planning on spending an additional $100 on gems. Guess not. Thanks Anet for ruining the game I love! Saves me money.
I just restarted playing this game. Made a new alt. The new leveling experience is not horizontal anymore. Its timegated, restricted, dumbed down and the fun is gone. I have the feeling that this is only the beginning and doesnt end with the first 15 levels in the future. So i must say, the motivation to play is gone.

it doesnt end with the first 15 levels, it continues throughout the whole leveling process.

If the game isn’t retaining players, there won’t be any new players because no one plays an empty MMO for very long.
Choosing newer players over current/longtime players…
If this kind of decision making is going (which I highly doubt) then it will only end in disaster, because when you roll an alt, you are a “new” player. Such a thing is self defeating.

Youre right, i was still used to the old (pre feature pack 1) trait system :-)
I created a Ranger to test the changes and i think its not for me those changes, got bored pretty quickly.
What you didn’t like the fact DumbNet lock core features of your pet behind levels? Or was it the idea that they just knocked our survivability in half with no offhand weapon? Lol what were these guys thinking… I don’t get it
I’m absolutely dumbfounded that this change was implemented for leveling. I mean, I get it if it’s your first time every playing the game… you know… ever. But to implement this change without ANY regard for your current players who are more than capable of having all the skills unlocked by level 1, is truly astounding. Mind=blown.
I just tried to level an an alt to test the new updates. I have to say, I hate it..a lot. I could’ve beared with it but the level locked weapon skills just kills it for me. Tie that in with the trait overhaul and no…just no. I could only make it to level six before I deleted the character. I don’t plan on leveling another one either.
I bought this game on first week of pre-order and have been playing ever since.
There is no acceptable answer to Why both my traits AND skills are locked away from me since I have been living with them since day #1.
Protip: New players are NOT ALWAYS on new characters. Veterans create new charactes too, and they already know how to play the game and don’t need to be spoonfed trait/skills.
I had just started leveling an alt – at level 11 when the update hit. No weapon swap until level 15, WHY? what does this achieve? 1 skill only until level 24 – what were they thinking? I have 8 skills bought and can use only 1. What is the point of doing skill challenges? No nodes in starter areas, mining and gathering is too complicated for a newbie?
Not sure if it’s true as I can’t test it but someone in map chat said there’s a level requirement for doing vistas.
I won’t but that’s mainly because I’ve gotten my altoholic cravings out of my system. I have 8 classes at 80 so I will never need to create another character again. From what I’ve been reading on the forums ANet stripped down the early levels like crazy.
Gust Root | Letum Folium | Lo Bridge | Snow Spot | Roland East | Nascharr | Bjorn Microbrew
Yak’s Bend
Lincoln Force [BOMB]
I should thank ANet for this change. I was considering buying gems for a character slot, but now with this new patch, not a chance. They saved me some cash.

I don’t think any new player will love that kind of changes, it way too boring.

everything, even the zone is way too quite and peaceful for me lol.
The problem is that they have successfully alienated the people who have been here for years. While somehow thinking we would accept a change that somehow makes veteran players redo everything they have already did.
It’s essentially like telling the player-base, “All we care about is new players.”
Yeah… I’ll be honest… I had little use for the gem store… don’t need anything from it.
Except maybe another character slot, because there are more classes I’d like to….
Wait… what? You mean Anet turned it into an actual chore to level a character now?
huh…. well, I guess I WILL get around to playing some more of those games in my Steam library.
I feel like adding a vendor with instant level 40 scrolls would be an okay way. Have them sell for 5-15g (an amount that new players will not have before level 40, but isn’t more expensive than crafting for experienced players). They won’t have to add too much work into changing the program or w/e and older players can skip the hand holding.
I seriously doubt any of you have tried leveling a character after these changes. Its never been this easy before and if you vets are truly worried about leveling an alt you should be overjoyed. You can do it quicker than ever. I suspect a large portion of the crying is really about key farming becoming more tedious. If you create an alt and somehow find it to be harder because of the skill gating…you just cant be helped. Are you saying you prefer the leveling to be slower but more involved? For me I just want to get my alts to 80 where they can be of the most use to me. I can do that quicker now. I dont need to experience every little thing Ive done 20 times before.
I’ll still be making a Warrior and Thief at some point. Preferably after a new race comes along.
But I will most definitely be using my level 20 scrolls on those characters ASAP. Previously, I enjoyed the leveling process enough to the point where I refused to use those scrolls. I leveled 2 alts well after the point where I had scrolls available to me, but it was fun enough that I didn’t care to skip the early stuff. But now, with everything locked until far later, I want to get away from the low levels at any cost.

I seriously doubt you actually read anyones post on this thread.
At first I did not think I would like it, but now I am really enjoying the new leveling system. Everything feels fresh (even though I have been playing for 2ys). Me and my guildies have been enjoying leveling and laughing at the small things like the dodging tutorial with the chest in the middle. Also, I no longer need to farm mobs to unlock all my weapon skills which is great(especially since I just made an ele).
I have to admit that I am enjoying this entire new update.
Edit: Oh and leveling is extremely fast now! I don’t need to farm eotm anymore because of how much exp hearts give you now and things.
>Log into my level 21 ele to see if the “so bad it’s literally got to be a bug” stupidity is true.
>It is
Where the kitten is my earth attunement ANet? Seriously wtf? Make this crap skippable for people who have been playing this game and don’t need to see this stuff.

the boost to exp tapers off around 10, and your skills that you previously had to be 20 for are now 35. you get less skill points so you will have less options for utilities/etc.
but hey you get a bunch of shiny stuff when you level now and a tiny peice of your charachter’s soul, so its all good
well at least some one likes it, so its not a 100% failure, just big one
“I seriously doubt you actually read anyones post on this thread”
I read enough to know that the complaints I see were not legitimate. The leveling experience IS easier. Why on earth would any veteran player want it to be harder when leveling an alt? Skills being level gated are no big thing for even a new player. Nobody is going to stay level 10 forever. I could level a brand new toon to 80 in a matter of a few evenings now.
For the record, I never considered the game hard. It is easier to level now which is a good thing for those wanting to level that alt. Making things easier for people to get into the game and level up wont change how they have to play later on.

Was unaware the boost tapered off at level 10. That would be a bummer. I only leveled my new character to level 13, so I may be missing what some of you are getting at. I apologize for that. Ill try to hit 30 tomorrow and see how it works out.

uhhh the only experience that they buffed was from 1-15, and it tapers off rapidly at level 10. Its not really much faster than it used to be, i know, i have leveled multiple charachters to 80.
i also leveled to 10 today, it took me about 70 minutes to get to level 10, before, that may have taken me 60-90 minutes tops. so maybe its a little faster, but not much.
the changes go way past level 10 though, you wont get your utilities complete until 35. thats a 15 level difference to come close to what you once were. you wont have all your downed skills until 19.
its not about hard, its about being boring and tedious. before the game gave you tons of options, now it takes them away
Yeah, I’d struck off ever creating another alt back when they changed the trait system at feature patch one. This update just puts the final nail in that coffin.
When I finished playing my level 7 guardian yesterday I must have left him in a bar. He woke up today naked, his armor is now level 10 and he has forgotten his 6th skill. I wish I knew the lady’s name I was with to get my stuff back. And to ask for another date.
It certainly seems that way for me too. The “new player experience” has made it so annoying for veterans that experience scrolls and tomes of knowledge are the way to go.
Before the patch I thought it would be fun to go through the world again on a new character from 1-80 just doing as much of the world as possible. After the patch, I will never level a new character the traditional way again. I made some alts to test the new player experience and it is horrible. Everything is staggered in an extremely painful way now. It is incredibly boring and seems to take forever to get what we previously took for granted on new characters.
The devs seem to think this game was way too hard and difficult to figure out for the first time, so they dumped the game down so low that you’d have to be stoned, drunk and kittened, at the same time, to benefit from the changes. This patch has made the first 40 levels the most painful and boring part of the whole game in my opinion.
Because of this, combined with the changes to the personal story and stuff from the last feature pack, I will only ever do my personal story and world completion on alts after I’ve leveled them to 80 with Tomes of Knowledge from spvp.
I think Anet did a great job with making me hate the early level experience. Now I fear what new people coming to the game for the first time in the future will think of the game because of this.
