Who here thinks the medium armor appearances are mediocre to poor?
This was and has been an issue since BWE1. That and the fact that only humans have racially themed starting armor; everyone else gets to start off looking like a human.
I don’t think this will change anytime soon. We may get new armor sets pre-expansion in the Gem shop. But until expansion; it’s Yarr Pirates and Cowboy Long Coats… or those dungeon grinder sets.
In the theme of being as helpful as I can be; have you looked at some of the racial stuff? Some is “OK”, I like a few of them and I’m one of those that really dislike the trenchcoat look. So might give those a look. A full set of Tier 2 isn’t too hard to get. Tier 3 is a bit of a chore, but doable with the time.
Me.
/10chars.
I was extremely close to quitting my Ranger just because I was fed up with the ridiculous pirate outfit from level 15-78. It was cool at first but it got old really fast.
I don’t mind trenchcoats necessarily, but I hate not having alternatives. If that’s not the style I want for my character? Too bad, it’s what Anet envisioned for thieves and rangers.
Honestly, I expected to love medium-armour because I tend to be a big fan of the jacket and coat type of looks… However, even I am honestly underwhelmed with it since it almost all ends up looking far too excessive and bulky. I want some styles that seem to flow better and are akin to a slightly more rugged version of what one might expect out of light-armour, but as it stands, no dice.
Though I had initially found the trenchcoat idea appealing, the execution has left me actually running with the Duelist’s top, simply since it is one of the only ‘lighter’ options available. The lack of proper skirts for leggings (or any real degree of variety there) isn’t sitting well with me either. I expect that the reason for that is that it’d clip with 9Ø% of the tops out there, but I’d like something decent to go with the one semi-worthwhile top I could find. :-(
A shame fun things could not simply be fun.
What do you want? A tunic and stockings?
…I meant that mockingly and then I realized that any number of players would kill to be able to look like Link. You guys.
Priorities, what to do?
Spend hours with dye

Hey, I saw a bald player with the Gem Shop Shades and a dyed black trench coat named “Flash Man” – can’t beat that IMO.
But Link… that’s as bad as armor with wings. (my opinion of course)
I do not like the female Order of Whispers. Not because of trenchcoat and pants but because it make you look like a Vamp.
I want to look like a spy or a soldier not some streetwalker.
I wish Arenanet would redesign some of these female medium armors to make them more distinct and not so provocative.

does anyone know where to get this?
You might say the armor is…. medium-ocre
I agree. I almost wish I could hide my Ranger while I play because I just simply don’t like the medium armor. its 99% the same appearance over and over and over. No options similar to GW1 Studded Leather or Shing Jea or anything? Medium armors in GW2 are just not my flavor at all. I’m not going to insult them and say they’re ugly or boring, because I have no doubt that some/many/a lot of people really like them. For me personally, they don’t appeal to me at all. I just wish there was a lot more variety. I almost feel like I’m forced to go cultural armor just so my eyes at least enjoy watching my Ranger when I play.
I rembered their fashion designer at Anet is a woman. Very very bad choice.
The medium armour sets are pretty much all trechcoat with long pants. The only set that actually looks decent imo are the inquest dungeon set but dungeon armour takes forever to grind.
Actually the only armour with decent stats and reasonably achieveable is the human cultural tier 2 and tier 3. They both look quite nice but not brilliant. And Tier 3 costs 120g which is just stupid.
I thought Anet said in a video "[sarcasm] i swung a sword, i swung a sword again, thats great [/sarcasm]. Then off we go to do dungeons that only gives 60 tokens per first run then 35 and then 6 or something. It costs like 1400 tokens for a full set.
Anyway, back to the point. The medium armours are ugly imo. No variety, all long coat and pants. I hope they’re not trying to release good looking armour in the gem store so we have to pay real money or grind more gold for gems to buy.
I noticed plenty of ugly armors, though my noob male armor is understated (though I don’t rally care for the pants).
On females, however, take a look at these!
The last picture is my thief.

The only medium armors worth going for are OOW and Cultural Tier 3. The rest are so ugly including a lot of light and heavy armors but at least they got 3-4 times as many good looking armors.
I know on my Elementalist I can’t wait to get that Cultural Tier 3 armor and that one the Elementalist trainers are wearing…smoking hot. Also I would like to say, the dungeon armors are so friggin ugly with exception to nightmare and arah but only light versions.
Actually, I would say in general that male armour is underwhelming in the game for scholar classes too – whereas clearly more time has been put into the female armour. I had hoped ArenaNet would have changed this policy since Elementalist had the same issue in Guild Wars 1, but it doesn’t appear as though they have.
I really hope they give the ability to pay for a gender/appearance switch.
The majority of medium armor is plain ugly and Anet knows it. There are tons of post and people everywhere complaining. The big question, what is Anet going to do about it? Probably nothing sadly.

I only play female characters so I can only really care for the female armors. I would give almost anything if ANET would remake a lot of the dungeon armors and make them look cooler :/. You can probably tell I really like the revealing or semi-revealing armors.

But weren’t many of the looks revealed little by little as the release date drew closer? Weren’t the fans blowing up smoke up ANet’s kitten how everything was zomgcool etc.? And now many are complaining?
Give it up.
Again, I’ve seen some beautiful leather armor on female characters and on males understated. I particularly like the hat with the feather in it ^_^
I have to agree too…I love my sylvari thief, but I feel a bit bummed and discouraged about rolling a medium armor class first since most of the armors are just…meh. Especially on males…and even more so the sylvari medium cultural gear…do not want.
I’ll be going Priory for the chest, since that seems to be the only passable skin that isn’t a coat on male characters (Vigil doesn’t do it for me).
Not thrilled with the options, but there is one set I actually really like the look of, which I’ve been going off on for the past couple days, that doesn’t even appear to be fully available for PvE…
Seriously, Commando’s Helm— the hat and mask is used for 2 PvP sets, and IMO looks the best of all the medium armor, and Anet doesn’t even make it available outside of the Mists? It’s not craftable, you can’t earn it, and it doesn’t appear to have dropped for anyone in over a month. Really?
I know right, haha. They make an appearance-based end-game but offer no good medium armor appearances.
There are not many options for appearance in early levels everything I wear looks nearly the same. I dont really obsess over my guys appearance in games though I just picked the default stuff and wear whatever is most effective at making me stronger.
The only leather armor I found that is attractive on my thief is Duelist, it’s the armor that the thief is shown wearing when you first click to make that class.
My engineer made it to 79 before I just couldn’t stand looking at her anymore.
Trench coat, Trench Coat, TRENCH COAT! It was driving me nuts, then I found the duelist armor and dropped her and made a thief (the armor didn’t seem to fit an “engineer” style wise).
Now my thief is 68 and I’m getting bored of looking at her in duelist, so now I’m starting up a clothie… because I found a lot of cloth armor just looks awesome!
I hope they add more than trench coats and huge hipped poofy shirts for medium armor.
as someone who wears a trenchcoat and wide brimmed hat IRL, i must say, you guys have no sense of style!
