RIP Old Trait System ~2015~

I’m just incredibly happy to see the 2014-2015 trait system burrrrrrn. Will not miss it at all. My condolences to those of you who will miss it, though.

It hard to say how a build will react in the new system till you can get it into action, so, maybe it will be missed, maybe you find a better combination that works well for you too.

I know I’ll miss p/p thief. It seems that a lot of the traits needed are gone, like ricochet.
I know a lot of people find certain thief builds annoying but I don’t think p/p was one of them. It wasn’t overly powerful but it was lots of fun.

I will miss the current SA line
And I will miss the .25 from CnD and the 1 sec more on SB2

Despite being less than pleased about p/p thief being removed I am optimistic about the changes. I’m very interested to see how the community improvises, adapts, and overcomes all the changes and I’m looking forward to see what the new meta’s turn out to be.

i’ll miss my 6-2-2-2-2 ele dungeon build.

I’ll miss the fire’s embrace signet build. Guess Ele’s should be running cantrips only in sPvP.

I’ll miss my P/P thief, it’ll be a pain without Ricochet.

And… that’s it. My guardian is getting a buff, my condi ranger is getting a HUGE buff, my engineer is pretty much in the same position as it was (but with extra traits to pick it’s still a small buff)… yeah, only my thief will suffer.

I’ll miss the ability to have partial lines in order to pick up specific traits.

Yeah, I do kinda feel that build diversity will be taking a hit, but we’ll see. I can’t judge until I’ve seen how things work.

RIP ricochet thief. Richocet was the sole reason I enjoyed playing a thief. Oh well.. Overall I’m quite happy with the changes.

RIP Acro thief. I can’t dodge 7 times in a row anymore
8 times if i take withdraw…. and gain vigor every 15 sec…. and gain vigor everytime i steal.

I have to actually start paying attention to my dodges now. RIP casual PvE thiefing.

If Anet takes time to reinvent the wheel all the time no true new content will ever come or VERY slowly. It’s about time they stopped re-inventing the system and settle for what we have, balance as needed and move on. Also changing things all the time starts to get on peoples nerves, people like consistency.

I’ll miss my condition necro. Unfortunately he does more DPS to himself then the enemy now. My full rotation will bring me from 30k to 5k health now without the enemy hitting me once…

Well, it seems that D/P thief will have to be a bit different because we don’t have infusion of shadow, so I won’t be going into shadow arts, I’ll just make a steal oriented build.

My P/P Thief losing Ricochet I don’t know wtf the dev’s were thinking on this. I’m on it right now as a last hurrah run.

My Bomb healing Turret Engi in sPvP is another build that was lost completely the past two months.

I think today patch is going to be a cluster kitten of WTF. As in that’s what players are going to be raging and saying with every engagement.

p/p permaswiftness thief no more Kinda hoping thief elite spec is going to be some sort of gunslinger trait line to bring back the p/p favourites and rifle

I’ll miss my PvP melee Ranger build. Keen Edge is gone. Hide in Plain Sight is gone. Throwable traps are gone. Range increase to offhand weapons is gone. Axe offhand cooldown reduction is gone. Can no longer run Wilderness Knowledge with Empathetic Bond at the same time. Can no longer put two points in Nature Magic to get my regen bonus.

It’s entirely safe to say that my build has been completely obliterated.

I’ll miss my FT multi condi hybrid 4 trait lines engie SOOO MUCH. At least she had a good, happy and maniacal life.

I prefer improvement over consistency. Now what.

I believe my current build is destroyed (PVE), and I don’t think HoT is worth buying so looks like game over for me. I only play one character – don’t play alts.

Change isn’t always improvement. As shown by the npe trait changes. I’m not sure this will be an improvement either since it’s just a further dumbing down of the system in place.

I won’t miss the current way we acquire traits, but I will miss having build freedom and the traits they’re chopping out for the sake of their future convenience.

I’m extremely confused about how to build my Guardian in the new system. Then again, I always found Guardian kind of confusing. I’ll probably go for an Unscathed Contender build with a scepter, ’cause I like doing big damage at range. Scepter-Torch, maybe, use that trait that causes Torch 4 to flip over on crit, then go for big crit chance.

But yeah that’s pretty much proof enough that I’ve lost track of what I want to do with the class.

On the other hand, my Static Discharge Burst-Zerk Engi is getting buffed all to heck and I barely have to change anything, so I feel pretty great about that.

I’d call it an even 50/50 on my feelings.

All of my builds are on gw2skills. I just hope that I’ll be able to convert them based on the old builds before the site redesigns to the new system.

I’m also going to miss not being able to use the trait stats to fine tune my level of healing or toughness or dps or whatever stats I need to add on or take away from depending on what I’m doing. I used the traits to add toughness/healing for WvW and dps for PvE. Now that flexibility will be gone.

The patch is just enhancing every build I use (with 1 or 2 exceptions) across the 5 classes I currently play more or less actively, so I’m happy.

But those exceptions, as far as I’ve got my head around this information overload:

For my engi, Juggernaut/Rifle Mod + Modified Ammunitions traits with FT/Rifle and elixirs. Worked wonders on my celestial PvE build. Maybe not the highest DPS, but I enjoy it immensely. Elixirs are better now tho, so yay.

For necro, protection from wells and Transfusion sharing a tier puts a little dent in my build, but other than that I’m very happy with the looks of it.

Have to see how it all once live tho, might be just as good for reason x I’ve not accounted for. Say, life siphoning through shroud? HGH being a staple of my engi build now? I’ll miss little things, but overall the change seems really good on all accounts.

Well i dont like total system overhauls if not needed, but improvement is a good thing. The new trait system overal looks good. It has potential and does not hamper build diversity to much. Thats the theory. The problem is, many traits are not balanced. Across the board there are skills and traits that will rarely be used. Manny trait lines have a weak pick and some skills are just better/more useful. So the next step should be to look at the traits and skills that got the short stick and improve them.
For me personaly i have a vision how to play my ele and came up with something that fits me. The patch will improve my build.I get a full third line and my stats will be shiftet in a way i prefer them. Just loss of vitality hurts so i need to adapt my trinkets.

No tears. I am optimistic.

The only build that I will miss is (not really actually, because I don’t use from a long ago and I stop playing with the class) is my Guardian GS+Hammer 00644, with the beatiful Two-Handed Mastery, and even if I didn’t use, Glacial Heart was better than the current one – is not competing with Absolute Resolution – and some said that won’t do damage any more. Also, I had some options in Adept Honor, now there is just junk there. And the new Guardian revamp looks really bad. So, rest in peace my Guardian – the only really viable build that I can see is zerk meditation, which I do not like.

Everything I had got buffed. Every other single build (except maybe for my necro, which Consume Conditions got nerf really hard, but condition transfer could becomes more viable, I’ll try).

Build diversity will likely decrease, sure, but just like WoW’s talent overhaul, it makes the system easier so you focus less on tweaking and more on playing.

I don’t like the fact that we can’t take 2 adept traits. Instead we HAVE to take Adept/Master/GM. We can’t even do something like 22066. We, again, HAVE to take 666 in only three trait lines. How is that “diversity”? Sad really. In many cases, depending on whether running in PvE or WvW, you will have, at most, 2 viable builds per class (until HoT drops, then we have our specialization).
