Who is the siamoth fan?
Guess I didn’t include enough anger at Arenanet for this to stay on the front page. Oh well. Back to the game :[
I always wondered how to pronounce ‘siamoth’. Does anyone know?
Hey Guild Wars devs!
I’ve noticed a silly trend as I explore more and more of the world map. Now, I can’t recall exactly where each location has been, but I can tell you that there are at least one in Bloodtide Coast and Sparkfly Fen:
Which one of you guys loves siamoths too much? :P
There have been multiple occasions where I have found a little cave offshoot somewhere in the corner of a map and thought, “Ooo! Something to explore” only to get in there and realize its just a one room half open cavern with a bunch of siamoth grazing.
The first time I was disappointed. The second and third and fourth times, I just started laughing like I was experiencing some sort of inside joke with one of the developers.
I can’t help but imagine someone sitting in a dark corner of the Arenanet studio just creating siamoth habitats in little tucked away corners of Tyria, very happy and content with their life. When they go home and their wife or husband asks how their day was, they just smile and say “Great! I made another new home for siamoths.”
Anyway, who is responsible for this? :P
It’s like Trolls and Ettin seem to be often found large gathering node farms, one of the great mysteries of Tyria….Perhaps someday the true story will be revealed?
Internally we pronounce it “See-ya-moth”, and since washingtonians speak perfect english as we remind our british design director Chris Whiteside daily, that’s clearly the only correct way to say it, so there ya go.

Colin, I don’t think the congregation of Trolls and Ettins near large gathering nodes is as much of a mystery :P
Even lore-wise one could assume that in their crude intelligence they have somehow learned to farm these plants for consumption, thus giving them a solid reason for wanting to guard such areas.
The Siamoths are cute critters. I’ve enjoyed the few pockets of them I’ve seen here and there.

Speaking as a California transplant, I have two counter arguments:
1) It is called soda, not pop.
2) Bag and beg do not sound the same.
Nice try, though.
As an Asuran researcher of no small renown I’ve also come to appreciate the docile yet hardy siamoth. They provide excellent (and highly disposable) test subjects for experimentation in easy walking distance of my lab.

Actually it’s called Coke. Every regular soda is called coke in Georgia for obvious reasons
RIP my fair Engi and Ranger, you will be missed.
Well, let me have a look there, that’s clearly a seeam-oth, eh?
Now you’ll have to excuse me, it’s getting cold, I will close my igloo again.

It’s like this in TN, too.
“Hey, hon. Watcha havin’?”
“A burger and a Coke, please.”
“What kinda Coke?”
“….um, a Coke coke?”
“Comin’ right up!”
I try hard not to giggle, but I always look wide-eyed at the spousal unit.

Except us southern gentlemen. That’s right, Guns, Ammo, and Coca Cola. Don’t forget it!
It’s amusing, my cousin lives in Colorado and it drives him crazy that everything is Coke here since he moved here 2 years ago. He still gets confused the poor guy, and it’s amusing to watch him order pop and the sidewise look he gets from cashiers.

Being originally from Massachusetts, it was (when I was a kid at least) tonic, not soda or pop. I remember driving the cah to the packy for some beeah…
I’ve always found it to be somewhat of a triumph of marketing for Coca-Cola to have wound up with their primary product becoming a common term to describe carbonated beverages. Sure, it’s not nationwide, nor is it all encompassing (who asks for a “coke” when they want a ginger-ale?), still, it’s fascinating
I always ask for a Pepsi, but then I’m “different”
Siamoth pets forage plasma (previously called Ectoplasm), and with +50% boon duration, I can get most boons for 15s from a lumpy clumpy thing that makes a really slurpy sound when I drink from the hand that is not holding the clumpy lumpy thing. Or I get stealth, which is good too.
I’m a fan.
Am I the only person here that has no idea what this thread is about?

The devs are talking to eachother in the forum.
Why aren’t we freaking out about this? I personally find this really neat, because for all we know, these guys could be sitting beside eachother while they do this. Crazy stuff!

How can anyone confuse a soft drink with his father?

lol. I also live in Georgia and up until about 20 or so, I still called every type of soda “Coke”. I use the term soda now, but it’s funny how common that is here.

As an 8 foot Norn with a hearty appetite, I am also a huge fan. BBQ siamoth short ribs are super delicious! Siamoth bacon, siamoth burgers, even siamoth and garlic ice cream. Yum yum yum. I can eat 3 siamoths just for breakfast!

Ok, I have to put my 2 cents in now.
As a true midwesterner, the correct slang for carbonated beverage is…………………wait for it……………..wait for it………………………POP!!!!!!!!
It is pop, pop, pop, pop.
I’m not sure why, but for some reason I CAN’T STAND when people call it soda. It is not soda…..it is POP!
Now as far as calling it coke, then that’s just plain silly.

Although I am still in disbelief that I could have lived in Washington my whole life and yet cant ever recall someone calling it pop instead of soda or even soda pop. Too many California transplants in my city I guess.
How do you say ‘quay’ at Anet? Because if it’s anything like in the game… :p
Let’s see, my personal exp.
Growing up in New York, called it pop pretty much exclusively.
Living in Fort Valley GA, called it soda…but on occasion was witness to what others have said, calling everything a “coke”.
Living in Los Angeles, it’s called soda.
Traveling outconus, seems like no one else knows anything beyond coke and the coca cola brand, maybe pepsi. Generalization ofc.
I hope this thread doesn’t lead to finding a cave full of talking Siamoths trying to pronounce “Siamoth” and debating which sections of Tyria call carbon popping soft drinks a soda and which sections call it pop.
Being a complete outsider, english not my native language and all, my opinion likely does not matter in this.
But…. saying coke I think of coca cola exclusively and would not ever consider it anything else. Soda makes sense to me as here in Denmark we used to call it sodavand (sodawater), sometimes actually just vand (water) for short, I know doesn’t make anymore sense than what you guys say.
Pop? Seriously? Say that over here and people would be clueless as to what you talk about.
Mostly we call all kinds of cola for well…. cola, be it some discount brand, coca cola or pepsi cola. If it is not cola we don’t call it that. Then it is fanta, sprite or whatever all the others are called. Cause well… they are different.. they are clearly not cokes or cola.
Anyways, I know I am an outsider and you may disregard my opinion on the matter.
Siamoths are cute… not noticed their habbit of gathering in caves though.
