Who knows more?
Devs certainly know more than your standard player. Yes, they develop the game but many of them play it both in a professional and personal capacity. They usually have multiple accounts, some for private enjoyment of the game and others for their work as in-game GMs.
The only people i’d say who could contest the knowledge of the Devs might be truly hardcore players but even then its hard to top the knowledge of those that built the game

i’m guessing the developers who built and launched the game but no longer work on this title know the most.. and you left out a category, the congregation of players who perpetuate misinformation.. example salvaging for ecto will make you rich in this game, or.. salvaging ectos is the best way to gain luck
I was reading a thread and it provoked a thought.
Who knows more about GW2? Devs, who created the game, and update the game, players, who actually play the game, or the people who “quit” but still hang around the forums?
I’m of the opinion that players no more. I see a lot of people here, who say “I no longer play” yet still post like they know everything. Given, I’m not saying they don’t know certain things, but with the state of the game changing, I don’t think they know as much as they want to know.
Devs, develop the game. But do they play? Do they spend anytime in game and see what’s going right, what’s going wrong, or even, what’s going on? I don’t think so. So many people express they want a change, yet… the staff don’t seem to provide any feedback, leaving me to think that they haven’t even experienced what they themselves are creating.
The devs do play the game like all other players. Devs have a much bigger plan and know more about the game. Game forums are full of “armchair” devs that call easy what is hard to implement and request features without thinking of the consequences. Usually people with no knowledge of design or programming.
It greatly depends on what part of the game you are referring to. For instance, players would know more about playing the game after spending thousands of hours playing and devs would know more about making the game after spending thousands of hours making.
because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind
I would have thought if the devs never played the game they would actually be more likely to use player suggestions because they wouldn’t have any experience of their own to go on.
But we know for a fact they do play, because players see them doing it.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Who knows more about the game? It depends on what the subject is. A dev is just like a player, but with less dedication and more insider information. It’s the dedicated players that has a better understanding within their field of play. This is why for example the top raiders or PvP teams are invited for alpha testing in some MMOs.
Look at the recent example where it was the players that caught a story inconsistency in the recent living story. The devs had all the proper information internally, but its the hardcore fans that will remember everything.
When it comes to the general player base however compared to the devs, the devs always know better. The average player simply can’t see the bigger picture, however sometimes the devs forget to look at the smaller one.
