Who maintains the Waypoints in Tyria?

Living Story 2 establishes that the Asura build and maintain them. So … you are welcome, from the people who control the world.
I think it was established before the game was launched that asura maintained them, no?
just be happy we don’t get charged a gate fee too while travelling through them
| 61 Asura | 5 Charr | 2 Norn | 1 Human | 1 Sylvari |
We Asuran players should get a cut from all this travel, should we not? <grins>

I should get a cut of anet’s profits because I’m human like they are.
I just wish they would fix them all.
Theres a heap of WPs in Tyria which are permanantly contested, even theres not a mob in sight and have been for at least the last year, maybe longer.
The same ones that maintain the broken ones.

I have news for you, Anet employees also use waypoints, and pay us a fee.

Your skin will wrinkle and your youth will fade, but your soul is endless.
In lore it’s the asura, Or rather a subset of them who choose to work as waypoint engineers.
In reality the money simply disappears. It’s called a gold sink and it’s an important part of the economy in an MMO, to counter all the gold that appears from nowhere when you kill enemies, complete hearts and events or sell things to NPCs. Otherwise we get uncontrolled inflation and that’s no fun for anyone.
Fortunately you can avoid waypoint fees most of the time by using gates (which in lore you have to pay for but in reality are free) and running between locations. You will have to use waypoints occasionally – like when you want to go to one of the new maps which aren’t connected to the mainland (unless you have a portal scroll) and when you die and there’s no one around to revive you. But you can usually ‘counter’ that easily by gathering 1-2 nodes and selling the materials, you’ll get more money than you spend on the waypoint.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Excelsior.
Is this even a serious question? When it’s useful, shiny and important, it’s made from and maintained by Asura. They are not there for travel by the users only, they also pick you up when your vital features are below a certain treshold and give you a revive boost.
I guess the income of the waypoints are all funding our Asuran BIG (basic income guarantee). How are we supposed to lead Tyria now and in future when we would have to do care about an income?
and politically highly incorrect. (#Asuracist)
“We [Asura] are the concentrated magnificence!”
Lorewise I’m more interested in figuring out how they work. How can our character select any WP in the world they have been to before and just travel there, they don’t even have to be besides another WP to do so.
Another bookah!

Lorewise, they break alot of things. lol.
Snaff died? Why didn’t he Waypoint?
Logan could have WP’ed to and back from DR before dinner to fight the dragon.
Eir, once again, didn’t WP.
Trehearne had gate issues, despite having a functional WP right outside the fort.
The list goes on.
Honestly, the whole Waypoint thing was really shoehorned in for that LS episode and such. Before that, they were completely ignored by most (if not all) of the characters in the world as if they didn’t exist.
It does make me wonder though…
Are Soulkeeper and the rest of the crashed Pact gang stuck in Bloodstone Fen?
Nobody based on the fact that the one in Timberline Falls is still broken. -_-
