Who thinks ascended items are 'Exciting'
Oh yeah, you know what would make this move even better…remove downscaling and such and add pvp to the pve. That would really bring in the players. Forget WvW. Factional combat, let’s say you call one side…um alliance, another side um…for the sake of diversity call them Empire. Oh, add um…a dedicated healing class. Hmmm, now sprinkle in a Tank. Wait, wait, wait…I got it…put in something you can hop on the back of to traverse the lanscapes. I forget what they are called, but they will really bring the players in. Ya know what we need now….deathknights. Hmmm, that’s still not enough. Oh, I got it, a system where you can link all of your characters together to where only you can see it and call them all related in some form or fashion…sorta like a legacy. Man, still not enough….what we need are 10man25man raids that hand out different gear, that makes pvp fun, oh wait…no it doesn’t. How bout we separate pvp and pve by gear…yesssssss. Oh, how do we do that? Hmm, we could add a stat only found on the pvp gear WEWT. Something is still missing. Macros!!!!!!!!!
Just conform. Content locust (I have assumed this role in other titles just to stay viable, rush to cap…and backtrack from there) will munch on any content at the speed of light no matter what you throw at them and then complain that there isn’t anything to do. Nature of the beast. That’s why downscaling and wvw upscaling was working I thought for the most part.
I’m willing to bet those who rushed through, got 100% completion, started working on legendaries, have no clue what’s actually even going on in Tyria. I willing to bet those who devoured your content haven’t actually read any of the text presented to them. Probably never witnessed all the little nuaunces offered that to me are actually quite suprising to see in a game. And that is the crowd your hoping to satisfy?
I took my time leveling this time around centered around the fact that once I hit the ceiling I could then start fleshing out outfits for what my wife calls my “Digital Dolls”. I could work on all my toons equally much like I did in gw1 without worry of having to keep up by focusing on one or two. I should have known better, but how could I when I played gw.
I hope anet knows what they are doing. I mean there was an actual meeting where someone proposed this idea, not a hugely bad idea imo, just going about it the wrong way entirely…again, imo. What do I know though, I’m just some dude who sits and plays video games for fun, kinda don’t want another MMO to call a job.

Who thinks ascended items are ‘Exciting’ ?
ArenaNet PR managers and community managers!
I am excited. I love new and more powerful items.
Because it’s not a gear treadmill. Yet. It’s one additional tier of equipment. Wait until next time if it happens again to react.
nope.
this IS a gear treadmill, that IS what they’re adding, and they’ve SAID that’s what they’re doing — but they’ve been insistent that it’s not a gear treadmill, because that’s a nasty word. We’ll just call it continual progression via equipment upgrades.
There’s no reason for me to wait around and still play this game until they add another tier and I’m proven right. I’ll just get out now before I have too much time invested in this game.
The menu very clearly and proudly stated no pickles. The restaurant very clearly advertised themselves as pickle-free. Two days after opening it, and after hearing a few people wander in and complain that there were no pickles — and despite a large crowd enjoying the pickle-free atmosphere — they’ve decided to add pickles.
Well I’m allergic to pickles.
The rest of you can suffer through this garbage alone. Gear progression is 100% derpmode gameplay.
get over your self, you act as though one model of a video game is some how objectivley better than any other<which is no the case games are games>. and GOD forbid some one has skill & Gear!!!
God forbid there be 1 MMO on the market that doesn’t kowtow to the status quo and actually tries to distinguish itself as something different, not just another “me-too” game. God forbid there be variety in the market. God forbid there be one single MMO that doesn’t include mudflation and a gear treadmill.
Fun part is this is going to destroy any illusion of class balance before too long. You think condition builds have problems now? Just wait. Conditions don’t scale too well, but power/crit/critdmg all scale each other as each increases.
This is what happens when you start putting ever-increasing numbers on gear.
I am excited. I love new and more powerful items.
You’re gonna love the 70-90hr grind (in the same 9 areas) for each of the items, too. Oh, and let’s not talk about the blue-quality infusion recipes , that each cost 1 eldritch scroll + several hundred t6/fractal-drop-only mats. So I guess it’s more like 70-90hrs + 50-100hrs for the blue infusion. As anet specifically mentioned, these blue infusions will need to be upgraded (i.e. overwritten with even grindier ifnusion recipes) to masterwork/rare/exotic/ascended with each new treadmill release.
Yes, you better be REAL excited, because that content will get really, really boring/repetitive long before you obtain even 1 ring or backpiece.
I would say I was one of the pro-stat people… but only for legendary items since they were an absolute grindfest with only a handful that were actually cool looking. I’m really not a huge fan of the idea of all sorts of gear with pumped stats.
Inscriptions could’ve been neat ways to augment your gear towards certain dungeons you liked to run (not necessarily the one in Lost Shore) and done more than just resistance… But like a certain boss effects are less effective or you do more damage against mobs in the dungeon, or whatever… Lost Shores could’ve offered exotic jewelry, backpacks and even some exotic-equivalent sets with stat combinations we previously didn’t have (like power/precision/vitality) on top of some neat skins.
I’m not going to totally write it off, but I think they were a little quick to jump ship rather than try using what was available and within the confines of their original design guidelines.

I was so looking forward to playing over the Thanksgiving break too. Guess I will download the latest Civ 5 expansion.
I get excited for new skins, new skills, new content and bosses not increased stats.
I am excited. I love new and more powerful items.
That’s cool.
When you get them, are you now more powerful than the other people that also have them? What’s changed here? What do you gain here?
The game hasn’t gotten deeper or more interesting, it’s gotten longer. This is an extra car chase scene added to a movie, and then repeated 400 times before the credits roll.
I like new and different items. Skills. Trait lines. Stuff that lets me make a choice and actually have it matter, instead of a window to punch through just for the sake of punching through a window to get to the same side as everyone else.
I know I am exceptionally excited at the prospect of grinding out my Ascended level Infusions a year or so from now. Maybe then I can finally stop grinding out gear and start having fun.
After the original Guild Wars, this kitten is the opposite of exciting. Hell, its the opposite of Guild Wars. Guild wars 2 should be named Guild Warcraft 2.
I am very excited about the ascended gear. In a very bad way.
Skydiving is exciting. New items and stats, not so much.
I left WoW to get off the gear treadmill.
If they are going to add the gear treadmill to this game….might as well get back on WoWs.

It’s tempting, what with the bosses that manage to be even more interesting even WITH the trinity in place.
Let’s see…
Entire mobs of people will run the new dungeons like bots looking for better-rated gear and to get resistance to the new condition, and everyone else will still be wandering around completely empty zones because they’re not level 80 or just want to explore the maps.
What’s not to be excited about?
WoW fanboys, congrats. Going back to DAOC =(
It was fun while it lasted.
Boring grind copied from every other MMO on the market. Totes lame.
I am, and as @Lifelike said, seems GW1 players don’t like it at all.
I love to aim for new stuff from time to time.
I played the hell out of GW1 and I like these new additions to t he game. The fractals are quite fun.
I’m opposed to the whole concept of new, higher-stat gear. I want to win or lose based on skill, not the numbers on my equipment.
- What on earth made you think you’d get this kind of gameplay on MMO? The whole genre is antithesis of limited numbers game.
