Why 100 ANET?
There used to be a whole kitten load of silk on the market, it was useless before ascended crafting hit game. Because there was so much of it, they decided to have a silk sink. They haven’t fixed it now that all that silk is gone…wish they would -.-
I thought it was because Silk was worthless before then.

They should reverse it and maybe make mithril 100 per ingot. Maybe then I’d have a reason to stop and mine those nodes again lol
That is kinda true…
back then everyone needed Gossamer, and people used Silk in Mystic Forge, to upraise it.
But now… Making Ascended Light armor… is such a pain.
I also hope that someday, they may reduce required Bolts down to 50… but i guess, that wont happen.
None of this is actually true.
Look at spool of thick elonian cord. Leather has always been dirt worthless as well and we have an over supply of it, how many of those are required for it?
50.
This was nothing but unprofessional and messy development and that excuse has always been used as a scapegoat for the real reason, and to this date they’ve messed with the economy so badly that they refuse to make any changes to it – and guess whos paying for it?
Cloth users.

I feel like it should be changed to 50 silk required. You can still only craft 1 spool of thread per day per account anyway. The only think it will effect will be the TP prices. That would be good too because it would put them more in line with the other ascended mat prices. that’s just my opinion on it.
None of what? Before ascended armor Gossamer was in high demand, over 4s a pop while silk scrap was at vendor + 1c.
Now it’s true, and always been true, that light armor wearers need around twice as much cloth to make armor than either medium or heavy because inscriptions use cloth. Ignoring the time gate for Damask, 100 does seem excessive if you take the need for cloth on every armor weight. We can see that with think leather, 50 and essentially needed only on one weight wasn’t enough to clear the glut. Maybe thick leather needs to be 100 along with Mitheral while silk is dropped to 50.

Theres a big thread about this, and some random dev replied who nobody had ever heard of, but rather than posting anything constructive, he was just being obnoxious and sarcastic about everything, so it just shows that ArenaNet isn’t willing to talk about it on a public scale.
Taking that into mind, I asked Isaiah Cartwright about the issue at EGX, and he gave me an actual reply. He said he likes to watch the in-game economy, and he does recognize that Elonian Leather is too cheap, and Bolts of Damask are too expensive to produce. He never said how he would change that, but the fact he sees theres an issue with it, just shows that there is the possibility for it to be changed.
I think the isssue is more that every armor type needs it for ascended, and light armor got hit hardest. It will still be expensive if you need only 50, because every player who wants ascended has to obtain it. Instead of lessening the amount needed (which would upset lots of players like myself who has made four and a half ascended sets), they could increase the amount of silk. Why do heavy and medium armor need cloth to make, but don’t produce cloth when salvaged? Why can’t we refine cloth from silkworms and leather from cattle? There are a lot of things they could do, but I think they like silk as the big ol gold sink it has become.

Random dev that no one ever heard of? You mean John Smith? The games economist? Who said that silk was intentional amd not an accident and working as intended? that many factors were taking into account and the consequences of the silk requirements were carefully weighed and considered before implementation?

There’s… no way this can be right, pdavis. Surely. Surely nobody would say that John Smith is “some random dev… who nobody had ever heard of,” because that’s… insane. If John Smith were one of the Six, every last one of my characters would be in his service. Even the non-humans.

Because we can’t be angry about both?
People were vendoring silk before they added weaving that´s why it cost 100 to make it now, used to be totally worthless.
But they shuld maybe change it now to 50 or other mats to 100 so we get fair mats price.
I imagine there will be new ascended gear added with HoT that are easier to produce that doesn’t cost a screwy system to craft.

That’s what i was thinking, however I’ve been involved in many of the threads (there has been several) and John Smith has really been the only one to respond. That is his domain after all…
Unless that person is new to the forums…
Also, John Smith IS the six. All of them. Yes, that’s right. The person(s) (still not sure if it’s multiple people or not) known as John Smith is each of the six gods.

What about giving us an option when we salvage as to what we get from it? Like how you can select your stats now for certain gear, or the new carapace armor chest drops.
heavy armor salvage: choice of metal or fabric
med armor: choice of leather or fabric
light armor: choice of leather or fabric (higher quality light armor still has leather involved)
They can also have certain types of salvage kits….Fabric Salvage kit, Leather Salvage kit for examples
