Why Buy Envelopes From Phaedra?
So far I have spent the same 32g that you have but have had 41g returned. Plus some fireworks.
Wait. What? Chinese players have a chance to get the mini from the envelopes, but not NA/EU players?
You sure?

Acquisition
Chinese version only (Can be previewed in the NA/EU version in the wardrobe but acquisition there is still unknown)
And I am not even sure that Chinese players get it from envelopes. They may have to buy it at gem store. Or, it may not be in the game yet for any players. I would think I would have seen some by now if Chinese players already had them.
If there was a chance at this mini, I might be tempted to keep losing money on the envelopes.
Incidentally, I have my magic find maxed, so my failure to return a profit is probably not because of magic find. I typically get my MF up to 540% before opening envelopes, although some posts seem to indicate that it is only account-wide MF that counts.

Only if you’re playing on the Chinese servers! (And yeah, I don’t think the mini drops from envelopes in any region, although of course I’m not certain.)
But anyway, the envelopes are ultimately just low-stakes gambling, I think. Low risk, low reward—you’re either out a few gold or you’re up a few gold (plus maybe some random food/fireworks/luck).
best statistical loot in the game. We want everyone on an equal power base.”
Pre-launch, Colin listed things that make MMOs bad. They are all now in GW2.
I would never spend my gold buying these. I have only opened 30 so far and all i have is some rice balls and some fine luck, with a few fireworks to throw in. So not worth the rng for me
I’ve only opened the free envelopes, but those are really underwhelming. I was assuming we’d get things like crafting materials, weapons, scrolls for skill points, tomes for levels, etc. but all you really get is small amounts of luck and kind of worthless consummable items. Not sure why you’d go to the work of the envelopes but then make them so boring and pointless.
My question is this: What is the payoff for a non-Chinese version of the game?
On average? It is a wonderful gold sink.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
the expected loss isn’t that bad (i think another thread said something like 10s each) as you are guaranteed that golden ram trophy to sell back + foods/fireworks etc.
Mainly i buy them to list on the tp for obsessive gamblers. they were like 2g on launch, like 1.3 ish now
I just sell them on the tp, and get a guaranteed profit. If prices drop, then I’ll stop.

Did we really expect anything different… every event now has the RNG element thrown in to create the money sink… Trick or Treat RNG for the Gwynny, Wintersaday rubbish and now the underwhelming Bash envelopes.. needless to say I poured way too much time, effort and gold into trying to get Gwynny… so this is one gold sink I wont be participating in. In fact as far as I am concerned the whole bash event is underwhelming not just the RNG loot envelopes… I loose interest in playing mini games that are so easily abused just to grab a win.
two days so far I’ve gained more gold than I’ve spent, and also been able to sell the ram packs for a nice bonus, too.
