Why Can't We Have More "Revealing" Armor?
On the other hand, why can’t we have less skimpy light armor?
Why can’t we have more majestic wizard-robes that don’t feel the need to always expose legs or chest?
Personally I feel that crafting should allow the user to design the appearance of their armor. As an end game which focuses mostly on aesthetics, this seems like a must. Crafting should be like character creation, where you have templates and sliders.
This is pretty skimpy heavy armor:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gladiator_armor
I’m not entirely sure what’s “heavy” about it other than a few pieces of metal and spikes here and there. It looks like it more or less matches the kind of look you’re going for. It isn’t exotic armor and it has to be crafted. So you’ll need to craft it and then use transmutation crystals if you want exotic level stats on it.
The wiki page doesn’t have nearly enough info but I checked on my armorsmith character and it looks like you can craft it with 200 or 375 in armorsmith. There may be other tiers of the same armor set that I just never crafted. You can also buy a level 80 rare version of this set on the Trading Post. And as far as armor goes, it’s pretty cheap. Hope this helps you get the look you want!

All we have now is trench coats and butt capes.
Why can’t we have skimpy looking Heavy Armor? We did in GW1.
Why can’t Heavy/Medium armors have skirt?
No. Just stop.
If you want skimpy armor, there’s always Scarlet Blade, go there. Or there’s always /a/.

The Norn heavy armor is skimpy. The Norn medium armor is, too. I like how both of those outfits show the tatoos we can give our Norn characters.
On the other hand, why can’t we have less skimpy light armor?
Both Acolyte armors, this one and this one, show very little skin. Not to mention Devout armor. The first tier of Human light armor also doesn’t show any skin.

Agreed.
I’d also like some cloth chest pieces that don’t look like a turtleneck with headlights glued on. :p
I think most of the females in this game obviously are walking-challenged: they seem to need to remove the front part of their skirts to move. Oh, and btw, they apparently do NOT know how to use scissors either, because rather than making a slit, they either swiss-cheese the skirt, or lop off part of it leaving a front butt-flap.
Anyone else think of this vid?
My furry charr approves of this thread. I’m still waiting for Faren Swimwear for charr and norn.
+1 for more revealing armor. Sometimes i feel like this game is the most puritan MMO around.
just unequip your armor….
Skimpy enough for you.
Seriously why must so many toons run around looking like they should be standing on a street corner in a back alley somewhere?
Having said that I do perfer my male human guardian without his chest piece. LOL

Just like how you like non skimpy armor, the OP likes skimpy armor. There’s absolutely nothing that makes your tastes better than his and vice versa. Hence we have something called choice. Its a new concept I know….
I’m not asking for JRPG like armor – warriors running around in Bikini.
No, I want more diverse looking armor sets, like in GW1, go check them out.
I just want normal looking skirtless/trenchcoatless/buttcapeless stuff. :/ They can’t even make skirts that don’t clip with things so why not just create armor without them? They couldn’t make capes w/o them clipping so they didn’t make them at all. Why isn’t that same logic applying here?
i would like to see this also. there are whole wardrobes of the covered up style already
I’ve said it before, I will probably say it again: IMO female ranger armor in GW1 got it exactly right.
You start with something relatively modest and very plain, a perfect middle ground. Then you have the option of literally a bikini (elite druid) or everything except the top half of your face covered in several layers of thick materials (norn), and many variations in between.
IMO this should be the template for armor in all games. Everyone should be able to choose between both extremes and a lot of styles in between, regardless of character class, race or gender.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Yeah, the clipping issue is terrible too, my sword goes through my backpack and lower armor.

This is a great idea
To expand on it a bit- we currently have specific looks for the various crafting tiers, maybe if we could then either add or subtract some details?
Or alternatively give a set of templates with various options of how they can be combined- make it at crafting level 500 and make it trade-able- lets put our fashion designers to work in Tyria!
Never going to happen but I can dream :P
More choices is always nice.
So, I want more revealing armor. And more no revelaing armor too!!
Yeah, Im kinda greedy, but I love to dress my characters!!
I think because it is Heavy armor and not light
They’ve stated in the past that armor sets in GW2 is a lot more work than GW1.
In GW1 you only had 1 playable race; humans. In GW2 you have 5. When they make an armor in GW2 they have to make it fit on 5 races and scale it appropriately to the model scaling.
They stated that GW2 will have cosmetic rewards. How many armor sets were created after release? 1 or 2? Engineers can’t even make full use of weapon skins and back skins.
This is a classic example of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing.
My guardian loves her fishnet stockings and fishnet part of her chest piece. It’s pretty darn skimpy and she knows she’s hot. >.>
Norn Female
Fur lined helm (when she wears one)
Barbaric Shoulder
Named Exotic Top
Gladiator Gloves
Barbaric Leggings
Iron Legion Boots
Don’t have a picture, but go preview those on your character and you’ll see what I mean.
grumble Thanks for eating my post, dumb forum….
On topic,
I think we have a decent mix of skimpy vs non skimpy. Although I do think we need a few more style options. Some short skirts, some simple pants (no overskirt or coat). Just a little more variety. Hopefully this will come in time, as I’d really like to see something similar to the 1.5 kurzick skirt or the asuran ranger leggings from gw1, style wise.
No, I want more diverse looking armor sets,.
I want more for medium. They’re just about all long coats or dresses or skirts for males. W T F. And the extremely few options that aren’t, IMO, suck.
I’d really like Heavy Karma gear for my Asura that doesn’t make me look like a Diablo (1!!) reject. (visualize some creepy heavy warrior Imp dipped in Chrome. Yes, I know there’s dye. It makes it No Better when you envision this Imp dipped in Blueberry Sauce……..)
Seriously. 252THOUSAND Karma, for this..?

It’s horrific. It’s not just ‘unusual’, it’s appalling.
Stuff! Stuffy stuff stuff stuff!!
I am in favor of more armor skins in general.
As far as more revealing armor, yes, that too. I like seeing my Norn’s tattoos, my Sylvari’s skin patterns and glow, my human’s muscles, etc. Although there are a few heavy chest pieces that are “revealing,” medium and light armor are lacking in that department.
Anyway, yeah more armor skins please.
I am still waiting for these armors since the Beta:
That second picture (and the left third of the first) look more in the province of Town Clothes than armor (and would be a really nice addition, at that – take heed, Gem Store people!). But I could totally get behind the rest of those; one of them actually reminds me of Rogue’s Armor for GW1 mesmers.
Regarding the earlier comment about Gladiator Armor – it’s supposed to show more; people came to the Colosseum to see blood, after all. The armor protects just enough of the areas required to keep someone fighting (more a focus on their limbs than their vitals), and leaves the rest open because everyone came to see people cutting each other open.
More skins IS always good – for all armor classes, races, and genders. Both in the more revealing AND more concealing options – more choices for more people’s tastes, you know? I, myself, am hoping for something “knightly, yet ornate” for the heavy classes; I was a big fan of Elite Templar Armor in GW1, as well as the original Knight’s Armor. Plus, I agree with all the people saying we need more choices in Medium skins! (Especially for engineers; most of them look too Ronger-y or Thief-y.)
I agree with more of everything. I have zero sympathy about the difficulty in making new armor sets. Hire more designers, hire more programers. How hard can it be? Git er done! (I know nothing about programing, maybe it’s the hardest thing there is.)
I agree that the medium armor is a really disappointing in this game. Light armor looks great, but medium you always wind up looking like a three musketeers hobo pirate.
Dev’s actually censored the more skimpy heavy armor at launch I think. Arah and karma armor got a work over.
One Thing is for sure.. they need more variety.. Especially with the dresses & coats & skirts.
Might also be nice to have a set of armor or weapons you can EARN instead of BUY..
Bring back Paragon armor from GW1! Or at least take inspiration from them! Many of the sets showed skin on both genders without looking stupid.

I think this post really points out the issues there. The variety is lacking.
For me personally, skimpy isn’t inherently bad. However, skimpy + lame = tacky, which is terrible.
And yes, I’m looking at those silly robes that are like buttcapes and focus on exposing tons of chest and legs for no reason other than to show skin. When you draw attention like that, it serves no other reason than to demean. It’s the kind of stuff that no sane character should be caught wearing, dead or alive even if it gave 1000% magic find. Might as well fight in their underwear. :/
On the opposite side, we have heavy armor that covers one’s character up so badly that it’s hard to even distinguish them apart (and thus making most of character customization worthless) and makes you look really stupid looking in town or underwater. I pretty much despise all the helms. Or you can have some chainmail underwear. :/
tl;dr I want my characters to look good, and not have to look like a underwear model to accomplish it.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

I entirely agree. I really don’t like the Masquerade set. It looks like a stylish mesmer set from GW1 was mauled by a bear and now she’s showing her undergarments. Please, can we let back in GW1-Mesmer-style armor sets?

Again, I’d love to see GW1-Mesmer-style caster gear in GW2. It’s stylish, yet not skimpy. It’s pretty, but not silly or too frilly. I’d also like tasteful showing of skin like the Raven Shaman set (that you can’t get) or some Sylvari NPC sets or the T2 Sylvari caster set. I’d like a medium Sylvari-esque set to show off my character’s pattern that I worked awhile on and based my character’s name off of. She has a “frosted” look that you can’t see at all in the cultural or nightmare sets except for perhaps the T1 set, but I’m not terribly fond of that set. I’d like some options. And I’m not terribly fond of the placement of showing of skin in the T1 set (I think it’s T1) and I’m not terribly fond of the “skin tight leaves” look. I like seeing the back of my characters (particularly with the two different back “spine” options for Sylvari), my characters’ arms (to show the frosted-ness of her skin below her head), maybe some leg, maybe not, maaaybe some midriff if done tastefully. I LOVE that you can see my Sylvari’s feet in T2 caster gear. I am SO glad I made my sylvari with that skin pattern a caster or I would have been annoyed as people would not have been able to see her pattern at all with a leafy set or even a regular set (no other set is “barefoot”).

I entirely agree. I made a Norn Warrior and I’d like to show off her tattoos. But it’s hard to find good armor to look good and “Norny” while showing off her tattoos besides the 119g T3 set (and I don’t think I want to spend that on an armor set – I haven’t had more than 22g at a time). On the helms thing… can we have helms like the icelord diadem and baroque masque from the HoM that don’t obscure ponytails/hair? Of course, for my Warrior I’d like something more mask-like but less “girly”. I always have my helm unchecked for a reason and I would really like to have it checked sometimes as I’d have worked to earn the armor set. The only helm I find really awesome is the T3 Sylvari heavy “helm” and it makes sense lore-wise as they’re plants and can “grow” in different ways.
All we have now is trench coats and butt capes.

I definitely don’t want revealing armour for the sake of being revealing, but I agree that there should be more variety, especially if it’s well done. I’m particularly fond of Ritualist armour, which while revealing I feel many of them are well designed. Light armour has it easy for style, with no practicality in mind you can be very creative. Medium armour does suffer from a lot of trenchcoats. I love trenchcoats but I find it perplexing why most sets are variations of them. Even GW1’s Rangers had more variety, and I’m surprised there isn’t more armour like the Assassin armour for thieves (but I’d prefer if they weren’t riddled with spikes). As this game has a lot of inspiration from steampunk, I’d adore if there were more steampunk sets for engineers.
1st: PEGI-12
2nd: this is not a korean mmo where the smaller (less covering) armor has the more defense, and female characters are fighting in bikini
on more or less the same note, give us BLOOD SPATTERS DECAL check-able box in video options please.
