Why GW2 success means so much to a WOW player
Apples and oranges my friend.
As it goes now, GW2 is very successful, regardless what the “quitters” say. The community is just split at the moment on what ANet should be doing to content/bugs/route. And I agree with you 100%, as without competition, why would a developer go above and beyond to make an outstanding title when it would just be easier to create a generic thing and sell a lot of copies. And as far as your liking WoW more, it’s your life, and your game…and I’m sure your computer should be filled with things YOU like
Pre-80 open world PvE and WvW are the only areas GW2 can compete with WoW.

I disagree with the Pre-80 open world, but I believe that GW2 pvp is far superior
There is really no point in discussing WoW in the GW2 forums. It’s been stated before that the moderators don’t really like this kind of comparison, and for good reason to.
There is no reason to stir up trouble with other games.
Competition is good for us all.

Exactly, you can’t be the best if there is nothing to be better than

Too bad you agreed to not bring them up when you joined the forums.

Posting a topic that compares two MMOs in an inflammatory way is, by definition, trolling.
Like I said, there is no point in stirring up trouble players of another MMO on these forums by “calling out” their game. There have been similar fights on other gaming forums and there is really NO good reason to start them here.
I do not see any comparisons between wow and GW2 here, simply a way to compliment them both. I apologize if mentioning wow here is considered against the rules
I agree. Instead, we should start a fight about not starting a fight.
I agree that a healthy competition between the games for the player base is a good thing to ensure quality product!

There Both MMO’s they compete for our Time.
WoW more so because thay need you to keep paying that sub
But GW2 only needs you to come to the event 1 Time a month and buy some stuff in the cash shop if you like. ((i have spent more than 3 months worth of a sub in the damn thing…. i dont like to think about that as it was nothing i needed))
Apples and oranges my friend.

both grow on trees
both have edible skin
both are used in pastries ,tarts etc
both are commonly bought juices
I dont know they seem pretty similar to me .

It’s not. EndlessDreamer just didn’t read the very rule he posted. Take note of the quote “…in a manner intended to elicit overly strong negative and emotional responses for mere shock value…”.
The post is clearly positive, thus negating the possibility of being trolling.
Try eating an orange with it’s skIn on.
Recruiting dungeon raiders.
Orange zest in cookies is delicious! :p Yes the post is clearly positive stop trying to find little black bugs everywhere geez guys.

Was gonna jump on this comment blindly but I would like if you dont mind, if you were to clarify the standpoint of this reply. I am unsure as to what you mean by this.

Right now as it stands Zid is correct because they’ve cut off all progression unless of course you are extremely lucky suddenly (don’t get me started on the math) or you buy loads of gems from the shop to convert into gold (when the market gets around to becoming equitable again).
Herding us all to the gem store does not a good end game make.

Those little black bugs have now become large insectoid monsters from Orr unless of course somehow a dec 14th patch proves fruitful.
Well i bought MOP, played 3 weeks got my char lvl 90 and stoped and back to gw2.
Now i cant back to wow. I love to much Gw2 system lvling, pvp, all is new and fresh.
You guys are so much nicer than WOW forums. When I posted this on WOW forums people flamed me so much

Well, all the haters are in other threads ripping on other people for silly reasons. Just don’t buy into the flaming.
I downloaded the 10 day free trial for Mists. I couldn’t stomach the graphics or the leveling system anymore. Went back to GW2. The only thing I really miss from WoW are the guilds / friends / social aspect. It’s kind of hard to find guilds / groups in GW2.
Competition is good for sure. But I really think Blizzard should focus on releasing a new and updated MMO rather than expansions.

Not entirely true, Guild Wars 2 have really evil and bad posters as well.
I’ve been suspended 2 times and have now been infracted 3 times. I think one more infraction and I’m permanently banned :/
I’ve been infracted for posting pictures of Apollo Justice, linking a video of Penn & Teller Bull—— episode, and something in line of going out of topic, like I usually do because I love talking and writing.
Not that I represent the overall forum base.
I don’t think I should post this :|

It’s funny because judging from the posts before yours there was no arguing or any trouble until you brought up stop comparing MMO’s to eachother.
Wow isn’t good. Wow is just so completely based on addiction, progression, “carrot on a stick” etc. I can’t believe people call that game good: It has kittenty combat, kittenty class design (every class close being the same), game offers NO challenges at all, graphics are incredible outdated and leveling is generic and repetitive as hell.
And the endgame… I mean, I just can’t believe someone is paying 13 euro a months to do 15? dailys every day, farm reputation and the same dungeon/raid over and over just for VIRTUAL stats. And not for a few days or maybe 2-3 weeks. No. A couple of months. It’s so crazy.
.. And WoW players say the endgame is good. Lmao. Arenanet could patch tomorrow and nerf all exotics to Fine. To get Masterwork-gear, you need to farm reputation: Do 15 dailys every day for the next 2 weeks to get your full masterwork-gear! Rare? Farm 80x dungeons of your choice. Exotic? Farm 150x dungeons in explorer mode of your choice to get full exotic gear.
TADA! Content. You like? Hire me anet!
I may drifted away but thank you Anet for not making GW2 into Wow 2.0.
EDIT: Yes, GW2 has some grind too but that isn’t bad actually. 1-80 is pretty well made and fun. Getting full exotic is a slight grind too. The only negative point I have with GW2 are the social aspect of the game. I wish there would be a server-intern LFG option.

All they have to do in this game is improve the dungeons, improve the way zone events feel leveling wise as well as story telling wise, and continue to make adjustments on existing combat and classes.
If they also add guild content like raids, and perhaps guild PvP…you might see a hell of a lot more folks playing Guild Wars 2. It just needs to keep the content up, and also perhaps make adjustments on money sinks in the game. I swear WvW seems too costly to upgrade keeps, and it takes a long time to upgrade the walls and doors as well as the tier 3 features for said cost.
Good for you OP; I’m just the opposite. I played WoW for a little bit and couldn’t get into it, but I found that absolutely loved Gw1 and Gw2.

Zones aren’t just there to get you through the levels; they are supposed to be meaningful at any level in this game, which is something they really need to work on…
The rest I can agree with though as some more guild events and stuff would be nice (Dragon Nest does this awesome event from time to time called Guild Rumble; would be nice to see some stuff like that here in Gw2 as well as just some more straight up guild vs guild matches and events).
Although… I don’t want to see instanced content take over anymore than it already has; they need some more open world content and adjustments done too.
Pre-80 open world PvE and WvW are the only areas GW2 can compete with WoW.
The sPvP or Battlegrounds (same thing anyway) I think GW2 wins by far. WoW is running with maps from unreal tournament. Scenario types like Capture the Flag are horribly imbalanced in a game with healer-only characters ( who also slow down the pace of combat). And they are still running with old and boring maps which are several years old. Maps with vehicles scale extremely bad as people get better and better gear in arena seasons. Strand of the Ancients, late in an expansion, is always a draw because people outgear the vehicles and destroy them in seconds. It’s no wonder people use PvP bots instead of playing themselves. It’s just too boring.
The gear progression in WoW forces the developers to constantly balance the game, yet every expansion starts out with a few classes being horribly imbalanced for the first two months. After that they are nerfed to the ground making them weak instead of fine tuning the nerfs. Even after so many years, there are still some specs that don’t work properly in both PvP and PvE. A lead design flaw that is still leaving it’s mark on a veteran game ..
Furthermore the combat in GW2 is much more dynamic and, the graphics are much much better and the removal of tanks/healers/dps fixed roles is really putting this game ahead of WoW in my book.
The achievement system is becoming the core of WoW and it’s sad. The gameplay itself is slow and outdated and the constant change in gear is making gear progression boring, because once you achieved your gear, you ask yourself if it’s even worth gemming and enchanting it, because you will replace it a month later.
If people like WoW then they should of course play it, but the game is still suffering from the same things it suffered from when it was released. If you go read the forums, you will find that people cry out for small, but important game changes. Those posts are identical to the posts that people made 7 years ago. It is beyond my understanding why Blizzard can’t just get their act together and fix the game that people pay 12€ per month for.
If GW2 ends up with the same issues, I will of course quit it too and then I’m done with MMORPGs, but as long as they keep things interesting I will continue to play it.

PRE-80 guild wars 2 crushes WoW, post 80 guild wars 2 didnt even show up for the match.
What both games do better or worse is just personal preference. But no matter which game you think is better, there is no doubt that it’s good for both games and the entire genre to be able to learn from each other.
Hello,
While we appreciate your positive feedback about the game, this forum is meant to discuss Guild Wars and not other games.
You can of course make comparison with other game to support your point, but try to focus on Guild Wars 2
