Why Guild Wars 2 is my favorite MMO
I guess it’s my favourite just now because I’m still here. (That could change anytime soon).
Its not my favorite. I am only here because its free after the initial payment.
It is my favorite, because I like the release version very much and I like to play something until some good new games will offer new gaming food. Perhaps, if they would do an expansion… but as they tend to reinvent the wheel…. they won’t :p

I really enjoy it, brings me back when I used to play Guild Wars 1 a lot in high school haha
I’m not sure that GW2 is that friendly to new players. It sort of is, but in a way it is a false friendliness. The open world was made significantly easier sometime between Beta Weekend 1 and Beta Weekend 3. As a consequence, the open world game does a poor job of teaching new players how to do well when the going gets tougher in dungeons and group events. The plethora of downed/defeated players in such content is a testament to this.
The Good
1. Gw2 has the best pve world I’ve seen.
2. Gw2 has real nice graphics.
3. Gw2 audio is very good
The Bad
1. Gw2 has the worst user interface I’ve seen.
2. Gw2 dungeons are chaotic zerg fest.
3. Gw2 WvW is a horrendous alternative to world pvp.
4. Gw2 is the most homogenized mmo I’ve ever played.
It’s my favorite because there’s always something new every two weeks…

At least you’re being honest.
It is a very fun MMO, I can’t say my favorite, because I’ll have to look back at this experience in a few years to do that. My favorite is the combat, after this and DCUO I just can’t get myself to play a ‘traditional’ combat style like in SWTOR, Rift or WoW, so dull and boring, but that’s just me.
My least favorite part is the storytelling. There’s good bits here and there for sure, the lore is there etc. but the execution is poor, sadly. I’ve read the books, which I found very fun, really like some characters in the game, but the emphasis is not on storytelling at all, perhaps I should get used to that. PS has highs and lows, story dungeons as well, but now with the LS they introduce ANOTHER chapter, so it’s really spread thing and none of them are heavily expanded upon. A shame, but I can live with it.
Core gameplay is solid and I play with fun people. All I really care about.

I agree on the storytelling aspect, mostly because they blend in a little bit of goofiness with it. It’s not terrible, but after reading all the lore I became really interested so it was kind of underwhelming haha
The Bad
Gw2 is the most homogenized mmo I’ve ever played.
What is bad about that?
Hmm… I think GW2 is a great game, especially for the price. But to me, there are so many things they could have done to make it better, that they have failed at.
What I like:
- Personal Story as you level up. Really fun and engaging.
- Heart style questing, no need to track down quest givers.
- Events. Really cool how you can come accross random events and partake in them.
- Character creation. I love the amount of options, sliders, and choices that go into it.
- Combat. Active dodging, weapon swapping, its all very fun to me.
- New LFG system. Great addition, has really helped me find dungeon runs.
What I don’t like:
-Living Story. Not only does this have nothing to do with the Elder Dragons, or anything we did in the personal story, but theres really no story at all in-game. Basically just a random thing to do every few weeks. The goal of releasing content every few weeks is a great one, but I would prefer a monthly update with more quality instead of quantity. Release new class skills, more explorable areas with new quests, personal story lines, you know… an actual living story.
-Class balance. I haven’t played a ton of MMO’s, but the class balance in this game is very bad. In PvE, some classes are down right useless, while others remain powerful in every area(damage, survival, utility, support). In PvP, most classes have only one viable build, some have none, and some classes are just plain overpowered.
-Mystic Toilet. Gambling is fun for some, but if they wanted to add gambling to the game, they could have added a casino somewhere in LA(how fun would that be!). Relying on RNG system that is the mystic forge is extremely frustrating. I have never enjoyed RNG looting.
-Temporary content. They waste so much time making content that they remove a week later. I took a long break from the game, and when I returned, the game really hadn’t changed at all! The reason for this is because all the content they had released while I was away had been removed from the game… kitten?
I think GW2 is my favorite MMO “currently.” The most fun I’ve had was probably WoW’s Burning Crusade expansion (but I suspect that was more because I was in a kick-kitten raiding guild that could actually complete the hardest content).
At this point in my “career” any subscription based game is a non-starter for me, so that naturally limits my selection considerably.

Yeah you make some good points with the temporary content, doesn’t make much sense to me. Hopefully they will fix some of these issues in the future.
Agreed, Guild Wars 2 is the best MMO out right now, and judging by what it coming out soonish, is still going to be the best MMO out there. WoW was able to keep me for 1 year before I decided to quit, and every other MMO since hasn’t kept me for more then a couple of months, but Guild Wars 2 is looking like to be a very very long stay for me.
Loving every minute of Guild Wars 2.

Clearly you don’t do PvP or WvW.
Stormbluff Isle [AoD]
I love how everyone can tag a monster and still get loots in Guild Wars 2 unlike in other MMO’s.
The only thing I don’t like about Guild Wars 2 is “Error Attempting to Sell”. . . Like seriously……….. WHHHYyyyyy!!!??? I’ve been playing Guild Wars 2 for a year like everyone else and that error is still there. It’s like Evon Gnashblade ran out of pigeons for me. Gnashblade should breed more pigeons so everyone doesn’t have to see that error like seriously. . . we’re paying him tariffs in every transaction. Error Attempting to Sell is my greatest nemesis.
Oookay, enough of me whining. I like the rest of Guild Wars 2.

No matter how you hate it, it seems that this type of content is more appealing to a significant portion of the player base. It’s like having a limited offer or sale on your favorite store. You make sure you get to buy something from that limited offer or you’ll miss out, instead of thinking: meh, I’ll prolly do it later since it’ll be there permanently and then just forget about it.
Temporary content like are awesome as long as they are of good quality like the Mad King, Wintersday festivals.
later. It doesn’t care that I’m there.”
