Within the last 2 years I have started playing MMO’s and these are the games for me. I played WoW for about a year, only leveling a paladin because that’s the only class I liked. After I hit 85 i quit because I didn’t like raiding and the pvp just wasn’t cutting it for me. Then SWTOR came out. I got it and…… well i quit by level 25. Then i heard about GW2. I had played the first one a bit so I decided to give GW2 a try. I did lots of looking into this game because for some reason it really interest me on how they were going to run the game. I made the mistake of picking a warrior in the beginning, lvling him to 65 then being so bored I rerolled a Guardian and got it to 80 and absolutely love the class. So from here on I’m going to split this into 2 seperate parts, the things that makes this game the game I’m going to stay with, and things that need to be changed (in my opinion)
The Good: I absolutely love the combat. It’s fast paced, has lots of going on but simple enough that you can understand everything that’s happening at one given moment. Almost all the classes can be played in a way that can fit your playstyle and you can change it accordingly, heck you can even go into hearts of the mists, try out 20 different builds and then build your character that way in pve. That’s a genius idea in itself. People complain all the time about there’s no endgame, there is endgame, its just not the kind every other mmo has so it seems like there isn’t. Another reason people are getting bored so quick is in my generation, new games come out constantly and its “cool” to have the newest coolest one out there. When a game loses its ‘newness’ then it’s boring and people stop playing. That mindset I don’t understand at all because there is lots keeping me in GW2. Honestly I haven’t dabbled in WvWvW that much because I’ve been lvling a lot but when I have played it, it’s a blast with some good friends. I also love the graphics, I’m a graphics person and this game is gorgeous. Last but not least, I love that there’s no subscription. I have school, a job, and a girlfriend and in my downtime I like gaming. This game fills my time but if I can’t play for 5 days, I don’t feel like I’m wasting my money.
The Bad: Ok, by now some of you are probably thinking I’m not focusing on the negatives but trust me, I see them clear as day. The fact that they are nerfing classes before they even fix the class bugs doesn’t make sense because you could be making something that doesn’t work the right way in the first place, suck even more. That’s counter productive. I honestly like mounts in other games and wish this one had them but that isn’t a game breaker and honestly doesn’t bother me that much but its dumb that it costs so much to travel all over the map. Earlier I said “Almost all classes can be played in a way that will fit your playstyle,” well I said almost because honestly the warrior class really made me mad. When you play Guardian you have all the attacks that warrior pretty much has, just a thousand times better because of boons and blocks and things like that. The warrior seemed to really have one amazing build and it sucked unless Frenzy was up. You pop frenzy, then bulls charge, the hundred blades= insta kill. That’s all fine and dandy while your cooldowns are up but your pretty much useless until they come back up again. In dungeons I felt useless and trust me i speced my guy to be tanky, and I wasn’t at all. Guardians did everything I could do 100% better and more. That made me mad and I feel like that class needs some rethinking. I haven’t dabbled in the other ones that much so I can’t say anything. Another thing I don’t like is the Guild UI. I know it will be fixed eventually but c’mon, there isn’t even a calender so you can set stuff up. The last thing is all the bugs, the whole Iron Marshes (correct me if I’m wrong on spelling) seems bugged.
These are my personal feelings on GW2 and I will be sticking with this game until something better comes along. Most of the stuff I whined about will probably be fixed in the next few months so I can’t wait for that. People need to realize games are to have fun, not to keep you stuck to your computer for 10+ hours a day. If you don’t like the way the game is right now, go back to Kung Fu Panda WoW and come back in a few months because you can, there’s no sub fees. Thanks for your time and give me some thoughts!
