So, people have been asking once on the forum, which character were our main one.
- Personally and regretably, I find that I don’t have ONE main character due to two reasons.

1. The Personal Story
- If you want your character to be personal, then you will want to play SWTOR. Man, different conclusions on quests and such which decided whether my character was more of like a villain or a general hero type of guy.
- GW2 offers our different personalities (Dignity, Charisma and Ferocity) but we don’t get to use them at all to determine how our story progresses. There is nothing TO this system at all.
- Solutions? Well, one thing I’d like to see in the future is different conclusions to personal stories. We get to choose if our charismatic character suddenly decides to turn ferocious.
It lacks personality.

2. Lack of skills
- I read a commentary once stating that GW2 has quality over quantity, but there are a lot of skills in this game that no one in their right mind would use out of efficiency.
- My main problem, though, is that I can’t change my weapon’s skills. The combat grows stale for me, then. I can play on a character for only so long before it grows stale and I want something new. And I can of course shift to a different weapon set, but I like to use a Greatsword, and why may I not choose to wield a greatsword AND choose the abilities I like with said weapon. I don’t like the “Lol, whirlwind” attack, because nobody who ever used a Greatsword in battle did anything like that. Didn’t like it in WoW, and I don’t like it in GW2 either.

- So to sum it up. My character grows stale with a limited amount of weapon skills to use for one particular preferred weapon, and he/she lacks personality.
- I’m not emotionally immersed in GW2 yet… I was in its predecessor, so I know that ANet can do better than this.
- Get to work, ANet! (And I mean that in a positive way. Try to think for yourselves rather than the mindless banter of people on the forum. I find many people to be destructive to the game’s development instead of helping it. Every new idea gets thrown to the ground instead of tweaking it to fit the game design).

I agree that Guild Wars 1 was more immersive than Guild Wars 2 is. I think that’s because of how fragmented the story is.

In Guild Wars 1, you were ALWAYS in your personal story, even though it was always the same as everyone else (with the exception of some profession quests). Other than that we all had the same exact story from day one.

In Guild Wars 2, the personal story is told as one part of the story telling but what you’re doing in the world doesn’t necessarily relate to your personal story. Each zone basically has it’s own story which is nice and and of itself, but that doesn’t tie in with your personal story. Not directly anyway.

And then you have the story of Destiny’s Edge, which is told through the dungeons. Interesting design decision that to me, ultimately failed. A lot of people don’t do dungeons at all, and getting groups together for story mode dungeons is always annoyingly tough.

In the end, I think the living story might be more along the lines of what I’m after, but they have to do something to include me more in the cut scenes to make it more involving.

I think they should fix some core elements of the game first.
- I find that GW2 is extremely easy to get together with friends to play. We can group up just five and head into the world, do dungeons or whatever we feel like. I really like that part of the game, but many of them get tired of it after a while. It grows stale, basically. There is little sense of character progression, imo.

- I really enjoyed the Razing in particular. The Living Story instanced content with Rox and Braham was paticularly well done. I’d like to see more of that.

When it comes to Living Story, I like the concept of it, but we need more permanent content. I hope that Southsun Cove gets some permanent content at the end of this event, making it more attractive for players to go to.

- The Personal Story just needs to be more personal.
Have you ever tried SWTOR? You could basically choose how quests would conclude. You could find the culprit, who’d have his or her reason for doing what they did, and you could choose to kill, capture or let them go.
- I think at the heart of any MMORPG should be the concept of choices or decisions. There is very little to the personal story that I find personal, because there are 33 (I think it was) possible combinations to the story. Every time we do get a choice there are only two options. We need way more than that.
- The three personality choices we get, Dignity, Charisma and Ferocity, should play a bigger role, and not just in the Personal Story, but I’d like to see them in the open world as well (more than just with a few npc’s) I’d like to see them alter how a Dynamic Event plays out if I triggered it with, say, Ferocity.
- It’s an idea, and I hope they will work more on this. PvE grows stale to many players as I hear it.

I don’t think I agree with you on the weapon skills. I understand that you want to use a greatsword, apparently as a guardian (“Lol, whirlwind”), but you don’t like the skills.
I guess this comes down to the question of why you want to wield a greatsword. Is it because you like big swords in real life? Because you like their historical usage (“…nobody who ever used a Greatsword in battle…”)?
In Guild Wars 2, your weapon determines two aspects of your character:

  1. The weapon model you hold.
  2. The skills you use.

From what I understand, you appear to be having issues with #1 at least as much as with #2. If you want different skills, use a different weapon. The one-handed sword might be more like what you’d like. Try it with a shield, perhaps. If you don’t like the skills of any weapon, then perhaps you should try a different class.

Warriors and mesmers also use greatswords; I would recommend the warrior, as it sounds more akin to your idea of actual greatsword battle usage. Remember, “nobody who ever used a Greatsword in battle” spun around in a circle and hit multiple foes at once, perhaps— but then again, they likely didn’t have powerful protective magics, either. The warrior swings his sword effectively, but mundanely. He can block and parry with it, he can charge into battle while swinging it, and he can unleash quite a flurry of blows with it. Most of the skills could—in theory— be moves that you could learn on your own. You could even provide a considerable amount of group support with banners, shouts, and combo finishers.

I appreciate the suggestions, I already have bought more character slots and I have two warriors, but the character I consider my main (or I’d like to consider my main) is a Guardian, who conveniently enough has the name “Sinifair”.
- It is more like that the Guardian is the class I like, I like how they use protective abilities and it is a lot of fun to play a Guardian in a group.
- And I like the Greatsword as a weapon, I’m not as much the hammer dude as the next guy.

However, I’d just like to see more weapon skills to choose from. It could be like that for each slot.
- Lets take the Whirlwind as an example. It’s an AoE skill. Maybe if we had another AoE ability, lets say with the animations of the Mesmer’s skill slot 5 with Greatsword, that we could swap it out with instead. Just some sort of variation so every single Guardian with a Greatsword are not using the same five abilities.
- I like the skill system, but I think that it needs improvement. Some expansion, if you will. I never expected ANets radical new game design to be a perfect first attempt. It works well, but as a new idea it needs improvement.

- That is just my opinion. I’m not much of a PvP player, but I can understand how the skill system is made to be easy to balance. It just makes for horrible PvE that grows all the more stale as you progress… or rather, you don’t really feel like you progress. The first few lvl’s are the most fun, because you get new skills, unlock new skill slots for your character and such, but there is something about it, when the players say that it grows stale towards the end.
- I hope to see it improved in the future. MMO’s are meant to be massive and have a great variety of things to do and see, and the GW franchise definitely has its own way of doing it (and I mean both the first and the second game), but it the core of the game needs to be improved, expanded and generally just reach for the peaks of its potential.
