I’ve played many MMOs (WoW, Rift, EVE, LOTRO, Everquest, and DC Online). Out of all of them, I think Guild Wars 2 is the best. Why? A few simple reasons.

1. The content is great. I look forward every time entering a new area. I can’t wait to see what it looks like, or the major issue of the area. A great example of this is the Fields of Ruin. I went there as part of the Vigil quest line, and I really enjoyed the whole area, because the quests (both story and non-story) felt like it meant something and gave me motivation to continue. Every two levels, or so, I look forward to see the story missions.

2. Out of all games, this is the best PVP. For the most part, its balanced and non-gear dependent. Whenever I join a match, I never feel out-geared or what not. While I have not played much World vs. World, the system could stand a few tweaks, but overall I feel its a solid PVP mode.

3. The amount of patch content is great. Every month is a new dungeon. While they may only exist for a short time, that is fine. The game feels like it is a living world.

Overall, keep up the great work Arena.Net. Your game is the best MMO I’ve played. Some dislike it, because you changed it from Guild Wars 1. Don’t listen to them. Keep on doing a job.

Oh, I think they could pull a few more things from GW1 and still remain unique and different, otherwise I agree for the most part with you. I also enjoy the Living Story and regular updates.

Still, be prepared for the onslaught of haters….

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

No game is perfect. Be it single-player or an MMO. There is ALWAYS room for improvement. For one, I think a LFG system in-game needed to be done at launch, and an in-game web browser would be nice.

Yea…so… Why would we attack someone because they like the game? Good for them. I don’t speak for anyone but myself, and I have no problem with people loving and enjoying this game.

The problem stems from forum warriors attacking anyone who has a negative opinion about any aspect of the game. They should learn to be more accepting. This goes both ways, people with a negative view on aspects of the game shouldn’t come here without a coherent well thought reason for why you feel the way you do. It just enforces this mentality that anyone who doesn’t worship the game or Anet is a “hater”

To the OP: I’m glad you enjoy GW2 as it is surely one of the better games out there

I love Guild Wars 2 too!!
I’m a fan of how the Living Story’s been shaping up, and while it’s a bit sad to never see some of the temporary content leave, I like how they’re pulling you along on what seems like a never-ending Personal Story!
… That is if the server stay up for that long… :x

I agree with you brian. I really love this game. I’ve been following it long before launch and been playing since Beta event 1. (Though I was forced to take breaks here and there for work…)
I also have played other MMOs; (GW1, EQ2, DCUO, FFXI, FFXIV (pre ARR) TSW, RO, to name a few) And GW2 has the best combat and questing system I’ve seen. I love how the game does not rely on the “holy trinity” of tank/dps/healer classes. But allows the player to build a character any way he or she chooses. I also love how there is no “traditional” quest system. IE: talk to NPC, accept quest, go kill ## of XX enemy, return to NPC to collect reward – rinse and repeat. I got SO VERY tired of that quest sytem. The maps change based on player interraction with doing dynamic events or not. Changing the way exploration is done.
I do agree there is room for improvement, but I also feel like these actions are being taken into consideration. And I trust they will be implemented in the future.

I fully agree. Its is wrong for anyone to attack another for their opinion. They have the right to post it, and speak it. After a few days on the forum, I got tired of so many negative posts about the game. I wanted to make a postive post about a game I really think is one of the better MMOs out. Those who think the game is perfect (or that any game is perfect) need to really look at the game harder.

From just reading the forums today I have seen a lot of bashing going both ways. From those that like the game, and from those that don’t. Thus the warning to the OP. I wasn’t naming anyone specifically, although your post sounds like you’re feeling a little guilty (as my mother always put it, got a guilty conscience?)

I could go into depth on my thoughts here, but it would most likely derail the thread, so I won’t.

Back on topic:

I can agree with some type of looking for group mechanic. Personally, I would be happy with something as simple as what was implemented in GW1, while I know other’s would still prefer something more ‘WoW’-esk in design. Personally, I’m content with the LFG website, but I agree that it would be easier to just have something built directly into the game.

And you’re right. The game isn’t perfect. No game can be, or ever will be. Simply because you can’t please everyone all the time.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Just trying to help those whose voices are drowned out or thought of as not as important. My conscious couldn’t be cleaner, I’m just tired of the bickering on both sides.

This is a great game with some cool ideas, but saying it shouldn’t be changed or improved hurts the game and the image of the game to people looking to pick it up.

But yes let’s try to keep this on topic as this is actually a relatively nice post for once

As much as I love the game, I want it to improve and I really don’t think pursuing this whole living story idea is getting us anywhere. Can you honestly say after doing these recent living story archs that you think the game world has changed, that you feel like you’re more part of the world? I don’t. I still feel like an outsider.

As I said, the game has room for change and improvement. I think there are some things OK to bicker about (Longbow vs. Shortbow or degreaser vs. stock). I think the forums could use a postive post once and a while.

I’m rather weary of the bickering too, and the whole ‘well my opinion is better than yours so yours doesn’t count’ crap. It’s fine to disagree, but kitten ….

And back to the topic again…haha

See, I disagree that the living story isnt getting us anywhere. I think it could be a really great thing, and it does have some great ideas/mechanics. However, it needs a little help. A few more things permanent. Less cash RNG. A touch more depth to the story so it pulls you in a little better (adding cutscenes has been helping this in my opinion).

I think we’ll get there though. We just have to have some patience.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

I would like to see the conversation scenes again, with my character talking to the NPCs, like from story missions. It really felt like my character was making a difference when she was speaking back to the NPCs.
But otherwise, I really love the living story and look forward for whatever else they have in store!

I very much enjoy the Living Story content and the mechanic for its disbursement. Having something new to explore each month, or week, or day even! makes logging in an adventure, and something to look forward to. I hope the developers hear those that appreciate their hard work and agree with their vision of a Living Online World.

This is not to discount other’s opinions, or their dissatisfaction with some elements of the game. I am just grateful for all the content that, for me, is essentially free. =)

I’m not disagreeing with their vision. It’s a solid idea but the way it’s working right now just really isn’t working with the vision. Can you honestly tell me that after doing a living story you feel more part of the world, that the world has ACTUALLY changed? I doubt it. Just imagine if when a living story instance was activated everyone in that server on the map is put in a mirror server so people who haven’t done it yet won’t just walk in half way through. Not everyone has to participate it can just be on in the background, you could in fact just waypoint out at any time apart from being in a fight and be in a normal server again. Imagine something like that… that would be awesome.

I am relatively new to the game, having found out about it and owned it less than a month ago! But I love it – sure, there are things that can be improved or things that I don’t particularly like, but my overall experience has been wonderful.

I do, however, think that a lot of the things I currently enjoy as a new player could very quickly become old and boring for people who have owned the game since launch or who have been playing since the Beta etc, and I think this is a major reason for some of the more angry complaints I’ve seen around here.

My only real frustration as a newbie, is the lack of new content I feel fully able to participate in or enjoy immediately (yes, I’m aware that patience is not a virtue I have in abundance!). So, for instance, the living story … I’ve missed getting much out of any of them because everything is for level 80 characters. This is good – people who have been playing for a while get rewarded – but newer players should be able to participate fully as well, imho. This recent Dragon Bash – I can’t use most rewards I get. I’m level 31 – I got the Tattered Wings … can I use them? No. Can I use the candy/snacks I get from the dragon coffers? No. I’m quite happily selling them, and have squirreled a few away for when I do reach 80 (and no, I’m not a player who can make it in a week – I don’t have the time or the inclination for such a grind … this is my first MMO, bought precisely because it’s different from other MMOs that I was never interested in), but the sweetness of the reward is lacking slightly. I’d love a Jade weapon skin ticket, as I could really use one of those, but it’s not the end of the world if I don’t get one.

But overall, a small complaint from a very satisfied customer. And props to the OP – I like seeing positive posts crop up :p

No game is perfect. Be it single-player or an MMO. There is ALWAYS room for improvement. For one, I think a LFG system in-game needed to be done at launch, and an in-game web browser would be nice.

For MMOs, Vanilla/TBC WoW was perfect. I’ve played many MMOs before then, that were good/OK and many after including WoW; xpacs/patches up to 4.2, that were dreadful…

GW2 trumps TBC/Vanilla WoW on world/character graphics and equals it on music and sound, because it’s obviously the same guy/team. The rest is far behind.

I like that Anet wants to break the WoW model, but it abandoned things that were very good about the MMO genre in general, in the process: Raids, trinity, mounts, unique stat/gear progression, tons of skills (I hated 8 spells in EQ1 and I very much liked the system in vanilla WoW, as did everyone else moving to that system from older MMOs)

I saw a great post on another forum the other day about WIldstar from Carbine Studios. They are basically the other half of Anet that made the original WoW with Blizz. The post was asking a simple poignant question, “Is this the new ‘vanilla WoW’ we’ve been waiting for?” I don’t think it will be without the Anet devs but it has elements.

Therein, lies the problem.
