Long Live Atlas Park 33
So I spend about an hour in LA trying to find/set up a Level 2 FotM team. Eventually I just teamed up with a few other 2’s and a level 1 and just ran it because I enjoy the visuals. However, during that hour I experience the rudest treatment I’ve ever received in any game from the players in LA map chat. I was PMed and insulted, called names in map chat, and even got a few nasty slurs and one “die in a fire” for asking why it was so kittening hard to find a FotM team below level 5. According to LA, it’s super easy to find a team! Just spam spam spam! You’ll find one, even though everyone is saying they don’t want my FotM level! Right.
I almost found a level 2 team but they wouldn’t let me join unless I PMed them links to my equipped gear. When I finally did find my team, we entered to the Aquatic Fractal and I promptly crashed. Turns out the rest of my team did too and two of them gave up. No more team.
Between the rudeness of other players, the lack of teams for my FotM level, and the off chance my team will get hammered by a crash I think I’m just going to go back to soloing the PvE content. Hardly anyone does any dungeons outside of FotM anymore so I won’t bother looking for teams for AC, CoE, CM, or any of my other favorites.
why were you not doing this dungeon with your guild members?
why were you not doing this dungeon with your guild members?
Most of them have left the game and the ones I think still play are never on when I am. Yes, I could find a new guild, but I’m not really interested in doing that search just to run one dungeon. I want to play with friends, not squeeze myself into a group just to have a shot at FotM.

Rude players have nothing to do with FotM, the same thing could happen in any dungeon, in the open world and in WvW
The problem you mention is the player in question nothing else!
If he insulted you and used nasty slur as you said I hope you reported him. Its the only way we have to solve this problem!
I reported all of the individuals who decided to act inappropriately. However that does not help me trying to run the dungeon. When asking a group to run level 2 Fractals results in getting belittled, isn’t that kind of an issue with both the player and how the content is managed? This ‘difficulty level’ FotM has allows a lot of players to act like jerks because others literally aren’t “on their level.”
Welcome to GW2 : Lost Shore patch.
It’s not going to change, but only get worse as more people progress higher into the FotM (love the acronym though, most fitting) levels.
You’re going to find fewer and fewer in the pool of players with your specific level – and that will only make grouping harder and people more elitists about who they’ll join with.
Levels like that for a dungeon were quite a bad idea from ANet – on top of many other things this patch IMO. But many of us knew that the moment they said it.

Fractals of The Mists is set up in such a way that it encourages rude/antisocial playing.
Gearchecks, level checks, refusing to play with people on a lower difficulty and in some cases; refusing to play with certain professions.
This is going to get worse before it gets better.
It seems you got the server with the rude people on. On our server “ring of fire” eu there are tons and tons of groups running fractals from lvl1 right up to lvl9 i think is the highest i saw. And actually there are people that dont really care bout the accended gear which have no problem jumping into a lvl1 run just because its fun
Levels wouldn’t be so bad if there weren’t so many of them that made so little difference and you could actually choose your level rather than having to grind through them. As it is, it is terrible.
In my experience it is actually much easier to find low-level group than a 10+ one.
And really, if you stood in LA and whined in map chat about how hard it is…

Its not terrible, it has a few issues..saying the entire thing is terrible is just thoughtless and lazy.
I would seriously recommend that you find a new guild. I’d like to play with my friends also but in reality I have about 2 friends that play. How I have made friends is through being in a guild. Because of my guild I have gotten up to fractals level 6 on a level 50 character. It sucks that this is what you have to do to enjoy this part of the games and in a perfect world it wouldn’t be like this, but every dungeon and every game will be. Doing this for yourself might make you enjoy yourself just that much more.
My attitude is if, or rather when, the ascended/infused gear becomes crucial for content outside of FotM (and ignoring PvP in my case since that’s not my thing) then they will inevitably introduce other means of acquiring it. I can see the issues that will cause already, “wahhh I did nothing but grind FotM for months and now some noob is getting equivalent gear from world boss chests waaahhh”, but that’s a whole other story.
In other words, I’ll just wait it out. That’s the beauty of not paying a sub.

Fractals of the mists is intended for people who want progression. I agree with you that such people generally have a certain mindset so yes I agree its most likely a place where you find more people who behave inappropriately. That being said most players didnt change from before the FotM so these rude players where still there playing other content and they still had the same mindset that you need certain gear or certain builds etc.. FotM didnt create them it attracted them!
There are plenty of other players who dont play FotM for its progression cause like us they dont care about that sort of thing! I would personally avoid groups with that attitude before we even start the encounter! I play the game for fun, such people tend to play it as if it were a job!

Completely agree.
I have been trying to complete my monthly anchivement for a couple of days now.
Ive doen 2 runs of total 4/7 fractals.
I could have done all 7 first run but one player got DC.Same on second run.
So now i cant find anybody thats on lvl 1…
Dont tell me to join a fking guild since im already in one.
Do i have to join one of the biggest guilds and play 24/7 to complete my monthly?
I know all you elite players love this dungeon, but this is the worst idea in Gw2 history.

I’m just waiting for the phrase “Welfare Ascendeds” to be introduced.
Any bets on when that will happen?

^ This 100% true, and like the OP said ~ getting a group requires wasting valuable time sitting in Lions Arch spamming for a group, occasionally taking a break whilst your map chat is suppressed. This is the new improved Guild Wars 2 – gg

Sorry, I already came up with that phase ~ I even have a thread somewhere about it (If mods didn’t delete it)

I like to play solo. What should I do if there is no group of Frackt for my level.
Wait it out a-net will more than likely nerf the Kitten out of FoTm eventually once they realise its harming not improving the ethos for the whole darned game.
IMHO you aren’t missing anything. I hated the fractals. I only go to grind mobs in the swampland.
I have literally never been asked to link gear or anything like that.
I’ve been in PUGs starting from overflow and my own server, and nothing remotely like that ever happens in map chat. People just make groups and go, even for the lower levels.
Gear does not even matter for level 1-5 fractals, you could clear them in green masterwork gear easily.
I do think you’re making this all up in a desperate bid for attention, OP.
If you’re trying to PUG level 10+, fine, gear does become an issue. But let’s face it, you’ve already done the content a bunch of times before that point.
(edited by xiv.7136)
Here is what I do: When ever (almost) I go to LA I’m ending up on an overflow server. This has its ups and downs. An up is, that you can switch the overflow server by going back to the character selection screen if you can’t find a suitable group for your level on the current server. A level 2 FotM group with 4/5 players might just be one “character selection screen” away from you…
But I also have to say, that the current system with clustering the community is not a great idea. I’m sure we will come to the point (once less people are interested in FotM) where it will be almost impossible to find a group which allows you to progress.
This is the direct consequence of the gear treadmill implementation.
Players want their team to have the best possible stuff, instead of just trusting the playstyle.
I must say that looking for a group is the first big obstacle towards getting into FoTM. The number of levels, chat suppression plus the lack of a party search feature means that you waste alot of time standing around in town. Time that could be put to more profitable pursuits. (another unfun thing about fotm: if you d/c, you can’t rejoin your group.)
But then again finding a group is hard for any dungeon nowadays.
I have literally never been asked to link gear or anything like that.

While I’ve not been asked for gear – then the one time I did get a FotM level 1 group – I was asked for character level.
It’s a short step from level to gear – so the accusation that the OP is lying is ….. well, perhaps your bid for attention?

I did level 5 FOM with a level 50-something guardian.
Yeah.
To answer the OP: if you’re puzzled now of the behaviour of the community around you on map, try to not log for 1-2 months. When back, ask again LFM fractals lv3, you will see worst ,and some Lol? lv3? Who is this noob haha Obiouvsly, forget to find a group at all.

do fractalsI like to play solo. What should I do if there is no group of Frackt for my level.
Well, since you like to play solo, you don’t need a group. What’s the problem?
A few other things:
1. OP…seriously? You were politely asking for group and suddenly not one, but many people started insulting you? I find that extremely hard to believe. A more realistic version would be…you asked a couple of times, got nothing and started calling people out for not wanting to cater to your needs. And some of them reacted. One person being rude for no apparent reason I can understand…when 2 people are rude to you, you might wanna think about your behaviour.
2. OP….wanna play with your friends? Well, go ahead. Oh, but you don’t have any because they quit? Find new ones. But you don’t want to look for new friends in a new guild because you want to play with your old friends that are never online? Yeah, that is indeed a bad situation…
3. Fractals ruining what now? So, if everybody is running Arah exp and you want to run Arah story…does that mean explorable modes are bad and those running them are elitist? I don’t think so… Don’t think of FotM as one dungeon, think of it as multiple dungeons with multiple paths. Different people naturally need different stuff from it. I wasn’t QQing when I was waiting 5h for a CM party and wasn’t bickering about how other dungeons are screwing the game and only CM should be available so I could get my noble rune set… Because that’d be very selfish and stupid…
the worst part is getting disconnected and you are pretty much screwed.
I doubt ppl would care what the party composition is before scale 10+
I was PMed and insulted, called names in map chat, and even got a few nasty slurs and one “die in a fire” for asking why it was so kittening hard to find a FotM team below level 5.
I hope you reported every single one of them for harassment.
It seems 50 bucks isn´t enough anymore to deter the “morans”, so let ANet handle them and don´t take the bait to insult them back so they can finger you.
OP:
1) the crash thing is a big issue, i fully agree and A-net is working on it!
2) Sorry but the main reason why you had a bad experience is your lack of effort in looking for a proper guild.
I simply dont get ppl that play MMOs and complain about how their friends have left and now no one wants to play with them, but the same ppl cant be bother with trying to find a new guild or even make friends with random ppl.
GW2 is a MMO, a lot of the content is design for groups and everyone and their mother knows that guilds is the primary source of grouping.
Except when your guildies are way over your level, not bothering at all to waste a week to make a lv1 reach their lv24, instead of keep going deeper. Human nature, time management, senseless drop. You know?

I have played in top-of-the-line hardcore guilds and my current very social and casual guild and i rarely have problems with getting ppl to run dungeons/battlegrounds for countless hours because i or another guildie need some gear, while the rest of the team didnt need anything.
Its even easier in GW2 since you can be in multiple guilds.
EDIT:
Yea, i have played with ppl/guildies that didnt want to “waste” their time helping other guildies, well, those ppl didnt last long in the guild.
www.gw2lfg.com answer to all your problems with FOTM
Any mmo where you have to work to find people to play with is a badly designed mmo. As for guilds, most have died due to a massive decrease in population.
This game is stuck in the past in all the wrong areas and made changes to all the wrong things.
I think the response you got says more about your server than it does about the game. I have encountered a few jerks in my journey up the ranks in Fractals of the Mists, mostly those who refuse to play any level but the one they need, and those who haven’t yet adjusted to the latest patch and like to blame you for the fact their class doesn’t play the way they remember and now they’re on their kitten a whole bunch…
But yeah no “die in a fire” stuff.
why were you not doing this dungeon with your guild members?
Maybe because its supposed to be an MMO as in Massive Multiplayer Online and have Open Lively World. Not single-player game with multi-player iption for You and a few friends. Maybe some like to meet new people and just team up and have fun. Not just being in small groups of same few people all the time but acctually experience the MMO feeling. Like just joining in with others when online. Not wanting to plan Your entire life around a specific run at a specific time and raid planners etc.
Simply log on, meet random people in a lively open world and team up and have fun.
GW2 wasn’t supposed to be about that Elitist atmosphere and attitudes like WoW is, with elitist groups running instances/dungoens and excluding everyone else. Just the type of behaviour OP has mentioned examples of above. Unfortionetly now it is it seems.
(edited by Lord Funk.1694)
It has definitely got more elitist sadly and consequently people acting poorly. We completed a level yesterday but all died (bar one) and it took an age for him to heal us so we could get loot from the final chest. He just stood there like a numpty
Lots of insults and accusations too. Sticking to Guilds is best

Perhaps he encountered more people like you in LA, you know, the obnoxious clownshoes that start to insult people and attack the OP for no reason. I can completely believe his story based on your shining example post.
Your claims have nothing to do with FoTM, people in general are idiots. That’s why I could never be bothered to play most games that require team work. You can go play LoL where there is no grind at all and people will cuss you out simply because you don’t go in the lane they want you to.
I don’t believe you are making it up but I also have never once seen this on server or overflow, there are always level 1/2 being formed and if they are asking for conformation of equip at below level 10 just don’t go with them since they don’t know what they are doing.
I have literally never been asked to link gear or anything like that.
I’ve been in PUGs starting from overflow and my own server, and nothing remotely like that ever happens in map chat. People just make groups and go, even for the lower levels.

I’ve always had a hard time finding groups for FoTM as well but it helps me to visit different overflows by entering bloodtide coast and going back into LA.
Unfortunately all of my guild friends have basically written FoTM off because of their frustrations getting disconnected, etc. so PUGs seem to be my only option.
And yet another “Does the pope kitten in the woods” thread. This is starting to get ridiculous.
Players suck, people are rude and can´t complete content!!
Whose fault is it?
Obviously FOTM.
It’s the same on Seafarer’s Rest EU. I’ve never ever been rejected from a party for my class (ranger main), been asked to link my gear or had people randomly insulting me. I’ve had one or two rare instances of rude players in dungeons but a quick “any more kitten from you and I’m leaving” tends to quieten them down, after all they want to complete the dungeon. I’ve never had to leave a group due to another member’s attitude.
Also as others have mentioned finding a friendly guild will really help. Sure you will have to make a bit of effort but I know in my guild anyone who chats on g-chat and has a friendly attitude is more than welcome on group content runs. I also make sure to run many fotm groups with diffierent guild members to ensure we are all around the same base lvl.
This is why a dungeon finder is needed and necessary for this game’s growth.
You were asked to link your gear for a FotM level 2? I ran FotM level 6 and 7 with a level 37 Thief and no one in the group cared.
You ran into kittens, that has nothing to do with the content. Saying FotM encourages negative behavior is you being overly dramatic and not knowing what you’re talking about. I’ve pugged my way up to FotM level 14 and not once experienced elitism.
I think it’s appalling that people are calling this guy a liar. Sad.
1. OP…seriously? You were politely asking for group and suddenly not one, but many people started insulting you? I find that extremely hard to believe. 1. You want me to post the names? I even had people in my finally-found group say “Man that (name) guy needs to get stuffed” and “dude people are rude in LA tonight.” Yes, that’s what happened.
2. I also have a job and two dogs and a wife and real friends outside the game. I’ll say it again: I don’t want to find an entirely new guild just to run one dungeon. I’d gladly play the other world dungeons, but hardly anyone seems to run them anymore in favor of FotM.
3. I didn’t say anything was ruining anything. I said I can’t find groups for any other world dungeons anymore because it appears that everyone’s running FotM instead. I didn’t say Exp mode was elitist and I sure as hell didn’t insinuate that I was doing this for gear. If you read my OP you’ll notice that I actually like to run the Fractals because they’re visually beautiful. This has absolutely nothing to do with gear and everything to do with the behavior of players forming FotM teams. How about not putting words in my mouth?
Please reread my original post and get back to me when you know what it is I’m talking about.
Some people get off with acting like a jerk on global map chat for some strange reason.Just know that they are prob kids,or atleast acting like them.Ignore it,you know their in Every mmo, atleast its not 90% of the playerbase thats acting like this,as ive seen in other mmo’s.These people get an instant block by me,i wont discuss with them,i wont talk with them,i wont read the crap their spouting, instant block and done.
