Why I've changed my mind on Ascended

Well only reason i havent bothered with ascended or to actually make a legendary out of the precursor sitting in my slot is that sure it gives a nice bonus to raw dps buuuuuut…..
When it comes to condition output which is irrevelant of the weapon dmg and scales with the stat,then hell no i aint gonna pay 400-500g for 8 condition dmg on stats which might be 0 because of how skills scale.

I have an Ascended transmuted LB and GS now.
Not giving noticeable dmg upgrade at all.
Don’t care to make an Ascended gear, people getting to realise its just for the elitists who want to spend their grinded or exploited money on.
We also need some thing to spend our stacks of bloodstones/dragonites on…

Since I’m not participating in the gear grinding treadmill that is ascended I’m amassing a large store of bloodstone and dragonite ingots just incase they decide to do something else with them… I don’t have anything else to spend my karma on at the moment anyway.
You don’t need Ascended armor. The stat increase over Exotics is minor. So if you’ve given up on getting these, you can still play the game as normal.
You can say the same thing in an MMO like WoW. Dont need tier raiding gear.
Why is ascended gear so different?
As I said in another thread,
Nobody wants the additional stats on Ascended gear (hurray for generalizations!). It drives the horizontal progression crowd nuts, and anyone who wants Ascended in the game will tell you how meaningless the stat increase is. Just nerf ascended gear to have the same stats as exotic if you want to please everyone.

I don’t want BiS, i want a leveled field in WvW, i can’t understand why they thought it was a good idea to have a leveled gearing system in SPvP but not in WvW.
The whole Ascended gear is just so poorly conceived from front to end. It makes no sense. Nothing in the game is better or more rewarding because of Ascended gear. It just pigenholes you character into a single build and play-style while asking you to grind ridiculous amounts of material only so a certain abundant material can have some economical value.
It’s like how “luck” was supposed to make greens and blues more appreciated and curb inflation. Yet all it does is create more and once people have 300 Magic Find, then what?
Just like with all the new currencies ANet introduced, none of them have a long-term plan. Everything is add-hoc and never thought through to the end.
ANet has brilliant artists and animators,
They have competent programmers,
They have a fairly management,
but in terms of game-design, they don’t seem to have a clue what they’re doing.
Easy solution for this: Ascended gear is the precursor for legendary armor, then you can stat swap it once you do the final upgrade.
It’s like people didn’t see gear switching with ascended as a problem in the first place…

What if they just took the default stats down to exotic level, removed agony, and built upon mistlock instability. After all mistlock instability on serves to create some of the challenge you may have faced in Guild Wars 1.

Ascended Gear should be tradable. Even legendaries can be traded, why not ascended?
In my opinion legendaries should not have been tradable in the first place. They should rather show that you put some effort into getting them. Of course that would have required a different way to getting precursors.
That ascended stuff is accountbound makes sense to me. They can now add more ways to acquire them, like using karma, laurels, etc.

Totally agree with this. Some kind of link between ascended and legendary would be awesome. Instead of using ascended stuff as precursors right away I would propose that they add a way to unlock stats. Once you unlocked them all, you have a precursor. This makes it easier to adjust the price for ascended and adds more options for players. They do not have to go for legendaries, but can just unlock the stats they want, stop there and maybe come back later if they feel like it.

It’s likely public relations speak for, “SPvP is for people who want gear to be a non-factor and WvW is for those who want their ‘dedication’ to the game to give them an advantage, no matter how slight.”
It would be neat if we could change stats on gear with either a vendor charging us gold or say using 2 or 3 bloodstone bars or something. Either that or ascended could be the precursor for the next level which will allow stat changing . Kinda why I am keeping my exotics even if I am crafting out a full set of ascended armor. If I decide I want to play differently for a week or so then I can without having to regather.
Some changes should be done to ascended but I don’t think making it cheaper would be the answer since it would rip off all those people that already worked on their sets. Just add a stat changing vendor that will either take gold or extra ascended mats that just keep building and we would be fine.
So should I go for +all stat ascended on my warrior for my armor? That is the only one I would consider because of the time and gold sink and my desire to switch builds.
It doesn’t seem like it would be worth it or BiS?

But if you play this game for little beyond WvW, this is problematic. Especially given the only way is crafting. In WvW at least, they should make a token system for them if nowhere else.

I think there should be such a system as well.
This is unfortunately one of the fundamental problems with the concept of gear advancement within a game that has such vast character built variation and at the same time is so vulnerable to small changes to balance affecting entire play styles.
In my opinion, if ArenaNet starts to do heavy handed balance changes, they need to accompany this with a change to Ascended gear, and I would suggest one of the two below options:
1- Dramatically reduce the cost of Ascended gear so players can actually gear up after a balance patch cripples their play style. Additionally, this would also make alts more realistic to play and gear up.
2- All Ascended gear gets the Legendary approach of being able to pick a stat combination, perhaps at a slight cost.
I personally just finished crafting my first Ascended weapon. This took a lot of my gold and time as I am not a farmer or trade post player. In the light of the likely chance the next wave of changes might cripple my current play style, I have aborted progress on the remaining Ascended gear.
