I would delete half of the posts on the forum, to make it easier for people who wanted to find the tidbits of valuable information amonst all the anger, threats and should-do’s.

That said, I do vaguely remember wat it was like to be a teenager, and imagine a large percentage of the players are of a younger demographic than I.

So, I wade on, and give thanks to the wonderful developers and supporting cast who hold a stiff upper lip when they take on the challenge of reading and replying to forum messages.

You’d make a terrible moderator because you would have to lock and/or delete your own terrible posts.

They could try and make the search function work to stop half the useless posts. It’s not that hard to fix, for a decent forum admin.

Exactly.

That said nearly all people on the forum would make terrible moderators.

I don’t understand why anyone wants to be a voluntary moderator in this forum anyway. This is a commercially operated forum for a game that is sold for money. If the company who operates the forum wants it to be moderated, it should hire moderators and pay them for their work.

The same goes for anyone who compiles information from the forum and officially sends it to the developers to optimize the game, which is what the “forum specialist” program is intended for. Why would anyone want to do this for free, if the company is making its profit from his work? If it’s part of the company’s workflow, the involved people should be paid fairly for their work.

There are, and likely will not be, any ‘volunteer’ Moderators. The Forum Specialist program offers no moderation abilities whatsoever to its volunteers.

Moderators (official) are anonymous for a reason, I suspect.

It’s not any different than being an unpaid intern. Something like this you could actually use on a resume, it could also provide you with the ability to hone your skills in communication, organizing data and so on. While i personally don’t have the time to spare gathering data and writing reports, i can still see value in it for people that do have that kind of spare time. There are definite benefits to participate in programs like this.

Sadly people in other forums with a working search function, start also the same useless threads again and again .. even if the same thread is already 2-3 times on the frontpage.

The problem is the software used for the forums. It’s been said several times that a fix has been researched exhaustivly on several occassions, but there is nothing to be done. My guess would be that it is proprietary software being used, and that no one aside from those who created the software can do anything about it. It’s also been discussed internally about switching the software used, but something like that would also create it’s own set of problems, involving contracts and whatnot. It’s more complicated then a simple fix.
