So, why is the level cap ‘80’? I mean, ‘100’ looks and sounds like a better number—that is, if you had to have a cap at all.

Which brings me to my next topic;

Why have a cap?—Even if there is never any content created for characters exceeding level 80, the stats and level value could theoretically be left to increase indefinitely. Afterall, we’re all down-levelled to match the region’s level.

That way, you could have a nice visual display (ego! warning) to other players, of exactly how much XP you’ve earned.

Thoughts?

Why not 20?

In my book a cap is necessary, cause with endlessly increasing stats World PvP would be dominated by those with the moste playtime. Just take a look at EvE.

Occam Pi (Ele), Acaena Elongata (Warrior), Finja Salversdotir (Ranger),

Well, you do get Skill Points once your ‘ding’ past 80.

I suppose one suggestion that could work well is to see how many Skill Points you have earned in total (as opposed to how many Skill Points you currently have), in a similar way how you can see how many Skill Points you have earned overall in GW1.

nachtnebel your statement on EVE is completely False no how many skills and skill points you earn in EVE only so many come into effect depending on what ship and weapons ect you are using at the time having played longer only means you are able to do MORE than a newbie not better

Darkfall online would have been a superior example of no level cap

Its not the number that is important. They made it 80, but it is so easy that even standing close to an event location you’ll go cap within a month. They should slow down leveling 10 fold, especially such that your crafting level can match up with your level.

So many people complain about endgame, the endgame material is really good. But people reach endgame too fast and see too little midgame.

Probably because we would have 90 trait points at 100.

I’m only responsible for what I say, not for what you understand.

Probably something to do with how many trait points they wanted characters to have.

being 80 for awhile now has made me wish the cap would be increased also. even if it didnt change anything about your character other then the level number. it would give me a sense of im still accomplishing something with my character while im trying to explore and get stuff for better armor and weapons. maybe once you get to 80 it could start up a type of reward levels that would give a reward for every ten levels past 80 you reach. and to avoid any confusion with new players who know that 80 is the max level have these extra levels maybe off to the side of your 80 level number or level number depending on the area your in at the moment.

There will probably be new higher caps with later expansions. They didn’t do it in GW1 because a 20cap didn’t really allow for it. But with an 80cap more akin to other MMOs I’m sure we’ll see 100 eventually.

But really, it doesn’t matter. It’s arbitrary. It gives you a goal, it gives the developers a place to stop (for now). They designed the trait system and figured how many points they wanted to give us. It’s not really about the number. It could just as well been 65.

Because of the trait system.
