Functionally, first person in MMO’s is useless.

It is good for taking screenshots (most of my GW1 screens were first persons of the environment, so beautiful)

But it is inferior for any kind of combat as long as third person exists at the same time in the game.

- Impossible to see your surroundings
- Harder to interpret the battlefield
- Harder to judge distances of enemies and range for ranged attacks

Imagine fighting a 50v50 zerg fight in first person, the FPS drop from all the close up skill effects alone would be brutal, but you wouldn’t be able to see any of what is going on, and running through other players like clouds would look ridiculous.

Imagine fighting a thief while you’re in first person. The noob would be abusing perma stealth, and you’d never find him again. Same issue with mesmer.

I don’t have an issue with first person combat, but the game has to be built for it, GW2 and almost every MMO is simply built for third person.

ALL IS VAIN.
PvP modes are the “endgame” in all MMOs.
Stop failing at PvE, and fix WvW/SPvP. Thank you.

The developer client has a first person option and it’s been there since forever. Idk why they don’t release it.. trying to /sleep and fiddle with the camera every time you want to take a screenshot without your character in it is a pain.

I have never taken a screenshot in this game. I simply look around and take in the scenery. Problem is that I have to wrestle with the camera to get my character out of the way when I’m trying to take in the world. This should not be. In every MMO I play, I like to switch to first person from a high location and scan the area. It’s quite the experience especially when its a world as beautiful as Tyria.

We’re not asking for a Skyrim first person view with arm and weapon animations. Just a rudimentary first person camera that lets us see the world with nothing obstructing our sight. As stated before, the DEVs have this tool, so why not flip the switch ON for the players if they want to use it?

I had always heard Arenanet didn’t know how to properly implemented a first person mode, even one that is just a basic camera on your person with no arms or legs visible. It was a running joke of “They can’t even make a first person mode; what makes you think they could properly implement blah?”

Never heard that saying before but in all honesty whoever started that saying doesn’t have a basic understanding of how game engines can have certain obstacles to even the simplest of ideas.

They also need a camera height adjustment – I’m tired of the bottom 30% of my screen showing the dirt behind me. There’s a beautiful skyline in the game, but we’re forced to always stare at the dirt.

The camera needs a complete overhaul.

First Person View

FoV slider (really, I don’t remember the last game I played that forced the tunnel effect on us this badly)

Camera height above ground slider.

Totally agreed, OP should change the title of this thread because no FPV is only one of the issues with the camera.

There is a first person view already… bur only in the alpha build of eotm.
(For those who didn’t know: pressing F11, scroll down to “developer options”)

The camera is in the head then and no arms or weapons are shown. You see all effects and the size is correct too; standing “under” an omge as asura was awesome btw
Fighting as an D/D ele is really cool cause you get really “movement sick” after a while.

The other camera option was “duell camera”….
It’s just the normal 3th person view but your opponent will always be in your view. This way you can keep fighting while ignoring the camera movement (cause the game is doing this for you).

First person camera in EotM beta was very buggy. The height seemed wrong (like everybody was asura) and if you died in first person camera and got resed the camera stayed in the dead position while you moved around without one!

The duelling camera wasn’t that good either, if you play with right mouse button down it makes no difference … except … well, sometimes my character would do a sudden unexpected 180 degree turn.

A first person mode is nice for taking screenshots and certain parts of jumping puzzles. Not so good for actually playing/fighting.

Yes, a camera height slider would indeed be nice as well.
By this point, however, I’ve given up on Arenanet listening to us.

They at least gave us more FOV, but still have not said a word about giving us players more options with the camera. That’s what I’d like to see, at least get an answer from them on their stance. If they won’t even acknowledge that it’s something players should have, I can finally uninstall the game with no worries.

Why is it that everybody thinks PvP when we talk about first person view?

>>>>> Nobody ever said it has to work while in combat. <<<<<

We don’t WANT to see our hands or weapons either. We just want unobstructed views of scenery.
