…GW2 lasts a few years, do you honestly believe that there will be no increase in characters maximum level cap or new higher gear grades will not be introduced?

It is the normal path of all MMO’s and mainly because the player base demands it to keep the interest.

What ANet needs to careful about is to not introduce many big changes in a short period of time. The community need to settle and have time to achieve the new challenges.

GW1 had a max cap of 20 on release, and has a cap of 20 today.

GW1 max stats are exactly the same today as they were on release (afaik, I have not played GW1 in a while)

You don’t need vertical progression to have a long lasting game, unless you’re shortsightedly trying to steal a slice of that WoW pie.

There are games that do this much better , and have 20 times the content. The people who gravitated toward GW2 are the people who actually wanted horizontal progression. Therein lies the problem, for some people.

Glad you are happy though.

Not anymore.

It is the normal path of all MMO’s and mainly because the player base demands it to keep the interest.

That was the whole original selling point of GW2; it wasn’t going to follow the "normal path of all other MMO’s. That’s why I – and many others – bought it in the first place. That’s why I wasn’t playing “other” MMO’s, and why I will not be playing GW2 any more.

What defines normal? Didn’t ANET said they want to revolutionize the mmo genre. Why then follow the most boring thing in an MMO; getting gear with higher stats but then there is no change since monster will also get higher stats to compensate.

Just tell me what is the point of having higher stats in gear if monsters are getting scaled to the increase in stats? What new challenge? Getting gear with higher stats to counter monster with higher stats? is that the challenge you want?

New challenge for me would be improved monster AI; them having a range of 5 to 10 skills or spells in a pool of hundreds+ skills/spells and using them effectively to kill us. If they had just improved the AI little by little, i would still play. Right now, this new patch is sapping my will to play this game.

Oh yeah i am not complaining about the new content (dungeons or stuff like these “love those stuff”) its only the gear with better stats.

There certainly doesn’t need to be an increase in anything. ANYTHING AT ALL. What does Blizzard put into WoW when they raise the level cap, and what can ANet do to counter it?

New abilities: Put them in the existing skill system as new things to buy. For weapon skills, add new weapons, or come up with a new system; if Anet wants to rip off WoW, they could probably rip off the pet levelling abilities for the existing weapons.

New zones: What’s the level-down system implemented for, if not this?

New talents: If Anet really wants to raise the trait cap, then that might be a good reason to raise the level cap. If Anet wants to put in new traits, then they can just put them into the current trait slots as new options. If Anet wants to give players more slots for traits, they can upgrade the minor slots.

More stats, more health, more blah blah blah: This is explicitly put into the game so that the playing field, when it comes to stats and particularly the stats granted by highest tier raiding gear, is reset.

So, here’s my question: ANet decided on their manifesto because they knew they couldn’t beat Blizzard at their own game. This is a step towards playing Blizzard’s game. How is this a good idea?

This and the post below you 100%. If I wanted gated content at cap, if I wanted to gear chase for increased stats beyond what I’m gear chasing now and step onto the tedious treadmill circuit I would do with games that do it better.

However, I will say that I didn’t buy this game because it didn’t have that element, I bought this game because I was a huge fan of the first one. Missed alot about it with this, but have been satisfied with it so far because like gw1 it didn’t have the you MUST play to be viable attitude. But if we are going to go down that road, I’m just gonna head back to the sub based models that do it better.

“It is the normal path of all MMO’s and mainly because the player base demands it to keep the interest.”

I read this and died a little inside. This kind of “follow the herd” thinking is what killed SWTOR, and is what will kill GW2 if they don’t get a hold on themselves NOW.

Yes the “player base” was indeed asking for gear grind and stat creep, as the “player base” always does, but sadly, these people don’t represent the players, they represent a small percentage of content locusts who will never, ever be happy. They are the first to complain, the loudest complainers and if you’re not very careful, you do end up taking their views on board.

Let them whine, QQ and complain. Ignore them, let them leave and you end up with a satisfied core of players who like the game the way it is.

I really believe the GW2 community is a little different a special compared to most other games, and I’m seeing it here, people are logging on the forum in their thousands to protest the game becoming more like WoW, more like every other Gear Grind game out there. We are standing up to the “player base” you talk about, and we are now shouting louder than them.

We are here, we will be heard. Take your gear grind and shove it.

There are a couple things here that are slapping Fans in the face. It goes against the president’s set by GW1, the game was marketed to break traditional MMO molds, Vertical progression with cosmetic gear upgrades were also preached over the course of development. A Tier of gear being added to an MMO without a level increase is not the norm. And this feels like a paradigm shift just 3 months into the game.

The new Armor tier is out on the GWDB now and it appears and Infusions will also have a stat as well as the Agony Resistance so it’s more them “a little” increase.
Adelbern’s Royal Signet Ring (Infused)
+51 Power
+72 Toughness
+4% Critcal Damage
Ring
Required Level: 80
Infusion
+32 Toughness
+18 Power
+4% Critical Damage
+5 Agony Resistances

And good business practice emphasizes customer loyalty. Betraying this loyalty is, therefore, bad business practice.

The thing is OP sometimes one can get confused on what one wants. Right now many players feel that the only way to keep a game alive is a gear treadmill. It’s what they know and thus it’s what they ask for. How long did it take for people to accept that the earth is round and not flat? How long did it take for people to accept that earth is not the center of the universe?

The divide here is that many of us have already tried a system without a meaningless treadmill and we have come to realize what a great system it is. New content, new challenges can be added without higher stats gear… as players become more proficient with their game avatars so does the challenges, eventually n GW1 we faced mobs 10+ lvls higher than the game cap and we still prevailed.

We had progression through weapons (new skills) which got everyone excited about new combos, new strategies and new cross profession synergies. It was not a race to get a bigger sword to kill a bigger a mob, it was race to figure out the mechanics of the new mobs and to figure the best/craziest way to beat the new content.

Our sense of accomplishment did not come from getting a bigger sword; it came from prevailing despite having the same resources that we had when we beat the game a year ago.

Cancer is also a Zodiac sign.

If stat progression on gear is introduced, then ArenaNet/GW2 has lied to and betrayed us, simple as that.

The game’s original design concept is the whole reason I spent 2 years waiting for the game, built a huge guild around casuals and spent thousands of hours of my precious time plus hundreds of dollars in their gem store.

I’m guess I’m one of the suckers that are born every minute.

I guess my real concern and frustration with this game is basically that I haven’t found it easy to find a decent group because my playtime varies so much. I have a family and thus my playtime is very limited and my view of GW is that it is nothing more than a really well done RPG that I play and occasionally run into other people while im questing.

They failed in an epic way by not releasing with the Dungeon Finder tool. It is just insane to think that people with limited playtime are going to have the ability to get in and experience that content because frankly spamming chat begging for a group isn’t exactly how I wanna spend my time. I would rather just queue up and get to go do the content I want to do without having to beg for a slot in a group. That sort of thing almost made me quit wow during BC. Thankfully my guild was far enough ahead of me that they carried me to my first set of Raid Gear from blues I got off the AH and I never needed to spend time spamming chat in kittenfor a group for heroics. That method of group building just doesn’t suit the on demand world we live in any longer. I really hope anet pulls their heads out of well…. and puts that into the game. Regardless of if they ever realize that they made a giant mistake by not having more than 5 player PVE content..

I was in agreement with your entire post until this …

Regardless of if they ever realize that they made a giant mistake by not having more than 5 player PVE content..

5 player PVE is casual friendly.

Just like your reasoning with a dungeon finder, most casual players have enough of a hard time finding “1” compatible player to play with, much less “5.”

Implementing PVE content that requires more than 5 players is NOT casual friendly.
